Next Day...
In his sleep, Wali turns and hit his head on the bedside table. "Ouch!" he exclaims as he rubs his hand on the injured spot and open his eyes. He finds himself on Ayaan bed right on the corner about to fall off. He turns to his right and sees Ayaan sleeping all tangled up in the blanket. He smile and sits up. He look at the look on the bedside table. It says "7:00 am". Stretching and yawning, he stands up. With one last look at Ayaan, he comes out of his room quietly letting Ayaan sleep for 15 extra minutes before he wakes him up for school.
He comes out and looked at the closed door of his room. Disappointed as usual, he walks towards the closed door. He opens the door quietly and walks in. Not a big surprise, he finds his wife in deep sleep. Shaking his head, he walks towards his walk-in closet. He picks his towel and his clothes for the day and walks to his bathroom to take a shower.
20 minutes later...
Wali hurriedly climbs down the stairs with Ayaan in still his nightclothes but teeth brushed and faced washed. They both sit down and eat breakfast. Wali makes small talk with Ayaan as he eat and when Ayaan wouldn't finish his food he feeds him.
Finally after like good 15 minutes, Ayaan was done. Wali jogged upstairs with him in his arms. He got Ayaan and himself ready and comes down. His wife was still sleeping. He bid Nancy bye and walks out the door.
Later in the early afternoon...
In Office...
Wali push the glass door and walks in his cabin. He had a super busy day today. He had back-to-back three meeting. He sits down on his comfy chair as he puts the file down on the table. Putting his head back, he tries to relax by closing his eyes but he couldn't. Lately, he is very edgy. He has been missing his family a lot, specially his Ammi. Sometimes he, himself, cannot believe that it has been 6 years since he had seen her. It was before he got married. He sighed as past memories rushed to him.
Shaking his head, he got up and stand by his big window looking outside. It was snowing heavily. The whole Manhattan was covered in a snow blanket making it look really pretty though Wali knew that after a day or two the prettiness would be gone and yuckiness would be what everybody would be saying.
All this snow would be brown or yellow before of the tire marks. Personally, he was not really fond of snow. He would rather have it rain than snow. Though it rains here also depending on the season, Wali misses Lahore's rain. Ahh, it was something else.
Suddenly, he couldn't take it any longer and decides to go. He was terribly homesick. It was Friday and the last Friday before Christmas. Everybody would be leaving early so he decides go home early also.
Back to Home...
Wali unlocks the main door and comes in after putting his coat in the coat closet. As he walks in the foyer, he finds his wife all dressed up to go out. He shakes his head. She is talking on the phone. She is fair skin and tall. Her natural brown hair with brown highlights are in curls. He is wearing a beautiful black dress that is comes down to her ankle. She has a diamond studs in her ears. A ruby and diamond studded ring on her ring finger in her left hand. Lastly, she is wearing a silver watch on her left hand.
She hangs up and turns around. She is surprise to find Wali home so soon. "You are home early?" she ask as she puts away from her I-phone 6 back in her purse. "Yeah. I wasn't feeling well so came home early," Wali said as he put down his bag on the adjacent couch. "Okay, then. I gotta go. I have a late lunch with Winter's(that's a lastname) and then I have to go to a party with Julia and Selina," his wife said as she collected her stuff to leave and started walking.
"One second, Neelum!" Wali said as he caught her wrist when she was passing by him. "Not right now, Wali. I need to leave. I'm already getting late," Neelum informed him. Wali pulled and she crashed into him. He firmly hold her with hand on her waist and another still holding her wrist. "Wali, what are you doing?" Neelum ask trying to break free but Wali was too strong for her.
"Calm down! I'm not hurting you. I need to talk to you. Right now!" Wali said in a dangerously low voice. Neelum immediately stop fighting. When Wali saw that she wasn't fighting any longer, he left her go and motioned for her to take a seat on the couch. She quietly sat down and Wali sat down opposite to her.
"Yeh kab tak chalaga, Neelum?" Wali asked almost tired. "What do you mean?" Neelum reply back. "You exactly know what I mean!" he fire back. "Wali, lower your voice," Neelum answer back as look directly in his eyes. "What did you just say?" Wali ask as he stands up. Neelum also stands up but immediately takes a step back. She takes a deep breath to calm herself as Wali look at her with daggers in his eyes. "I'm sorry. Finish your sentence," she said softly.
Wali calms himself down also. He sits back down and so does Neelum. "Yeh asa nahi chal sakta. Mein apni zindagi asa nahi guzar sakta!" Wali told her looking in her eyes. "What do you mean? Sorry for repeating my question again but you chose this life! Now you don't want it?" Neelum ask not getting his point. "Yes, I did choose this life but tab meri life mein meri biwi bhi thi. Aaj sirf mein aur mera beta hai. Where are you? Tumhe to apni parties or gatherings ka masrufiat mila to tum hume time do. Ayaan barely sees you anymore. Jab woh subah school jata hai to tum soh rahi hoti ho aur jab woh ghar ata hai to tum ghar pay hi nahi hoti ho!" Wali said again standing up. He was really frustrated with his life.
"Well.. I have other priorities also!" Neelum shot back as she stands up also refusing to see her fault. "What about us? We dont hold any importance in your life?" Wali ask taking a step towards her. "Ofcourse... hai!" Neelum fumbled taking a step back. "Acha to kya karna wali ho tum iska bara mein?" Wali ask as he took another step towards her.
"I will..." as Neelum was about to reply, Wali's phone ring. Still looking at her, he pulls it out from his pocket. The minute he sees the caller ID all the blood drains out his face.
It says "Bade Sahab". Neelum look at him questionly. He slides and put the phone by his ear. "As-salamu Alaykum," Wali immediately found himself greeting in the right away though he haven't said this word for like 6 years. He talks as Neelum watches his expression carefully. There was joy that turn into instant sorrow. "Okay! Don't worry! We are coming!" with that note, he hangs up.
As soon as he ends the call, Neelum open her mouth to object when he vetoes her and with a lot of authority, "We are going to Lahore tomorrow! Get ready! And I'm not asking you!" he demands and run upstairs leaving a stun Neelum behind.
