Chapter 11
"Are you alright?" "Just peachy."
"We really need to hang out soon." Sophie's voice greeted me as I held up the phone against my ear. Great, no hello, nothing. I rolled my eyes even though she couldn't see. Of course, she just had to ruin my sleep with that. I yawned, stretching my arms with a smile. It's true we hadn't done something in a while and I really felt guilty for it because I had been the one spending excessive time with Mr. Jock. Screw me.
"Yes, good morning to you too, Soph," I replied, rubbing my eyes. "And your wish shall be granted. Since you wanted to hang out with Miss Awesome Em, she has gratefully invited you to her house tomorrow, Saturday, for a sleepover," I said, faking a British accent. She laughed at my horrible attempt but replied, nevertheless.
"Of course! I'm delighted and it's a great honour to spend time with you." Honestly, her fake British accent was worse than mine so I did the the only thing necessary. I snorted, as usual. "What about Josh?" She asked, changing into her usual accent.
"We could spend the whole day hanging out on Saturday and at night it will be just you, me and Channing Tatum movies." I giggled. Like every other girl, Soph and I found Channing Tatum extremely handsome too. Not a big surprise there, eh?
"Now that's a plan," she replied, laughing along. I looked at the wall clock and cursed.
"Erm... Sophie. I really need to get ready for school. Thanks for waking me up before Neil tortured me. Bye! See you at school." I didn't wait for her reply and hung up. I quickly made my way to the bathroom to brush my teeth and shower. After coming out, I threw on a red top and black jeans. I wore my red converse hi-tops and rushed downstairs, tying my hair in the process.
"I was thinking of waking you up by a totally different method," Neil said, giving me a smirk. "It's a shame you woke up so soon. Eager to meet someone, are we?" That imbecile! I knew he was hinting about Virat and right there, I wanted to wipe the smirk off his face.
"Yes, I'm very eager to meet Soph. So care to drive me after I finish eating up the terrible peanut butter sandwich you've made?" I replied, innocently. He handed me my sandwich, quite amused. Why? I wish I knew.
* * * *
Terrible. Only one word to describe today. School was literally a torture and I couldn't stop my eyes from shutting during the classes. Not to mention, Virat was throwing paper balls at me during all the classes we shared. Which happened to be 4 out of 7. Did I forget to mention that we were almost in the same classes. It was different that he rarely turned up so even I wasn't aware that he was in my classes before. Now though, it's hard not to notice when he practically sits beside me in each class.
As I was taking my shoes out, a singing voice distracted me. I looked up to notice Virat dancing and singing to loud music. I was so tired I didn't even care to listen to such loud music. But right now, it felt like my ear drums were going to burst. His singing was no help either. Just like me, he too was a terrible singer.
"Would you stop that?" I groaned, while his head snapped to my direction, his signature smirk plastered on his face. Had I been in his place, I would have blushed with embarrassment. How did he manage to act so cool after getting caught in such an embarrassing situation. But of course, I was Maanvi and he was Virat. We were total opposites.
"Aw, am I troubling you, Peaches?" He cooed, annoying me further. He perfectly knew that I found it annoying. I didn't want to waste my energy by shouting at him so I closed my windows shut and drew back the curtains to block his smirking face from my view. I lay back on the bed, only to be interrupted by my stupid ringtone. I glanced at my mobile screen and frowned. Unknown number? I hardly got calls from unknown numbers. Gee, when did I become so popular? Ha! I'm not... it's just a wrong number probably.
Sighing, I picked it up and put the phone against my ear. "Hello?"
"Maanvi." An all too familiar voice spoke. I hung up as quickly as I could and sat up straight. It could not be. It could NOT be. Grabbing my running shoes, I put them on and went downstairs. See, when I'm bothered about something or I need to clear my thoughts, I go out for a run. I'm not really an athletic person but running ALWAYS helps. I plugged in my earphones and tied the leash to Imagine's collar. Might as well take him with me.
I didn't no where I was going. I lost all sense of direction and let my feet carry me. Tears streamed down my cheeks as I tried to erase away all the terrible memories. Could this day be any horrible? It was as if God had answered my question by making it drizzle lightly. After sometime, it started raining hard. Who thought that the town's climate was so unpredictable? Imagine was already getting wet and I knew I had to get under a shed real quick. We ran for a few minutes until we reached a house which had a small shed in the back. It was probably rude to go there but if anybody saw us, I always had an amazing excuse. And it isn't an excuse. So I quietly led Imagine to the backyard and tied his leash to the pole of the shed. I bent and ruffled his fur which was dripping wet. he could catch a bad cold. Now what?
I silently cried. Why did this always happen to me? First school, then the phone call and now this.
"Little Em?" I looked up to see Jason standing there with a frown. I quickly wiped away my tears and stood up. So this was his house.
"Hey, Jasy!" I said, hoping my voice wouldn't give away that I was crying. Unfortunately, I failed to cover up.
"Are you alright?"
I sighed. "Just peachy."
He rolled his eyes and walked towards me. "You're sarcastic even when you cry."
"I wasn't crying," I shot back.
"Yeah sure," he replied shaking his head. His eyes drifted to where Imagine was tied. Being the friendly dog that he was, he started wagging his tail and trying to walk towards Jason but failed because of the leash. Jason untied it and Imagine jumped at him. "Cute dog you've got there. What's his name?"
"Imagine."
He snickered when he heard the name but stopped when I shot him a glare. "Why don't you both come inside and dry yourselves. You can leave once the rain subsides." I snorted at his choice of words. It's hard to believe that he knew words like 'subside'. Usually, it was just cuss words in his dictionary. I accepted his offer and once I was inside, I looked around his house. It was just about the same as ours. A bit smaller in comparison though. However, it seemed warm, comfortable and even adorable.
"Who's there?" A little girl's voice said and a second voice giggled after hers. I raised my eyebrows at Jason but he just shrugged. And then came the two most adorable girls I had ever seen. More like twins. Both of them had curly blonde hair and one of them was wearing a blue top with pants while the other was wearing a white top. They must be around 7 years old, judging by their appearance. Their cheeks were chubby with a slight pink tint. All in all, I fell in love with the cuties.
"Aww, what are your names?" I asked, bending to come face-to-face with them. Judging by their blush, I knew they were quite shy. Behind me Jason cleared his throat.
"Sorry, they're quite shy around people but once they know you, they can be quite the pests."
"We're not pests!" Both of them said in unison. I chuckled while Jason just shook his head. "I'm Rose," said the one wearing the blue top. "And I'm Lilah," said the other one. I smiled at them.
"Lovely names you've got there. I'm Maanvi but you can call me Em," I said. "At least that's what everyone calls me." Rolling my eyes, I ruffled their heads.
"It's nice to meet you, Em!" Again they said it together which made them even more adorable. "Are you Jay-Jay's friend?" Rose asked. And you're probably wondering how I know that was Rose. Hello! They were different coloured clothes. I chortled when I heard they say Jay-Jay. Jason glared at me and I sobered up. "Yes, I am his friend," I replied. Imagine jumped on me and that's when the girls noticed him.
"Aww, is that your dog?" Asked Lilah. "What's his name?"
"Yep, his name's Imagine," I replied. As soon as I said that, the girls ran over to him and petted him. Oh he loved all the attention he got! They were busy playing with him when Jason decided to end the happy moment for them.
"Girls girls! You need to do your homework otherwise Mom will kill me for not making you do it," Jason said to his sisters. Even though he acted a bit stern, I could see his love for the twins. They were his sisters after all! And who doesn't love their siblings? I mean of course I do fight a lot with Neil. A lot is an understatement. But that doesn't mean I don't love him. I remember the stuff we used to do when we were kids. I always looked out for trouble and he tried to get me out of them by taking the blame on himself. The things that Dad did to him were enough to break me down. He never told me anything just to keep me safe. That's Neil for you! Always the jerk outside but a softie inside.
The twins went up to their room, muttering a goodbye and later grumbling about how horrible homework is. And I agree with that 100%.
"So, now will you tell me why you were crying?" Jason asked, folding his arms and turning towards me.
"Like no way in hell!" I replied in a fake falsetto tone and he laughed, shaking his head. He did that a lot.
"You're stubborn."
"And you're a jerk," I said, sticking out his tongue at me.
Who would have thought that out of all the people, Jason would be the one cheering me up. But at the back of my mind, I was still worrying about that voice. The chapter I had closed a long time back was back again. And what am I supposed to do?
I have no clue.

Author's Note
Hey!
Thank you for the amazing comments :D
So, who do you think the caller is? And what do you think about Jason's character? I personally LOVE him. He reminds me of one of my best friends though I'm not in contact with him now. Has been years! Well, I'm constantly on the move so keeping in touch with my previous friends is hard. I try though. Anyway, that's not the point here.
I hope you liked the chapter. By the way, I was thinking of posting the prologue of The Beauty of Life but you guys have to wait a bit longer because I deleted everything I had written. I'm so sorry but I really wasn't satisfied with the way it turned out so I'm going to write it all over again.
How about I post it on Sunday?
Love,
Stella
