v - "JEEVIKA!" he yelled getting her attention. She looked at him and walked over seeing his excitement.
j - "What?"
v - "This is Virat and Manvi's baby? She sent you a sonogram pic?"
j - "Uhm..."
Viren was still surprised looking at the photo that he didn't even realize Jeevika was silent and took a seat next to him until she spoke.
j - "Viren... thats your baby... I mean our baby"
v - "Wait what?" he said pushing his chair back firmly
j - "I'm pregnant Viren. 11 weeks"
v - "You're eleven weeks pregnant?" he asked confirming the fact.
He couldn't even believe his wife was pregnant, and on top of that eleven weeks already?
v - "Jeevika I need answers" he said with his tone going up. He was in a state of shock, but he needed to know what was happening.
Jeevika sat there surprised. She knew she hid it for too long, but she thought he would smile at the thought of becoming a father. All the pain of carrying a child and she got nothing.
Viren kneeled down next to his wife and looked at her continuously trying to get her to tell him.
v - "Jeevika what is wrong with you? Why were you hiding this for so many weeks?"
j - "I don't want to talk about" she said getting up and trying to walk away seeing that he was not a bit happy.
v - "You don't want to talk about it? Are you kidding me? Jeevika have you lost your mind? I mean how can you be this naive?" he said following her to the bedroom getting angrier by the second.
Jeevika had heard enough the past few minutes and couldn't believe Viren was talking to her this way... VIREN!
j - "I didn't tell you because I wasn't ready" she screamed at him
v - "You have to be ready to tell the father of the child, your husband? Especially something this huge that is going to be happening in our lives?"
j - "What is your problem Viren? I thought you would be happy, happy with the thought that I'm expanding our family. But not once did you show a little bit of consideration. Not once did you ask me how I'm feeling. I've been dealing with all this alone"
v - "Jeevika who told you to live with this news alone? You should have just had the baby and then came to me and told me since it doesn't seem to crucial for you to tell the father"
Jeevika couldn't believe her ears anymore. She looked at Viren as tears flooded down her face. Her mind was still processing her words, while her heart had felt the ache and pain. She wasn't a normal girl who would cry over things, she rarely cried. She was a self made independent woman who could tackle the world if she had to, but for the first time ever she had cried. Her breakup with Viren didn't even hurt as bad as this did right now.
She looked at him once more, before storming out the room and then out the door of the apartment. She didn't have her cell phone nor any money or keys. But she just needed space, and quiet time to reflect on what just happened. She knew it was probably wrong not to tell Viren, but she knew it was the right decision at the time and he didn't give her the benefit of the doubt. She got down to the streets and saw cars going by left and right. She decided to take a long walk, not knowing where to or even how long. She had this sudden urge to call her mom, she wanted to be comforted. She needed someone to tell her its okay, and that they're happy for her. She walked the way towards the hospital which was a good fifteen minutes away. She entered the building next to it, where she spent most of her time. She realized she didn't even have the keys to her office upstairs so she waited in the lobby till someone came to get her get in. When she got inside the office she sat on her chair thinking if she should call her mom or not, she wanted to badly but she didn't have the courage to tell her also and think she may get yelled at AGAIN. She put the phone down and rested her head on the desk and sobbed. Suddenly she heard her work phone starting to ring, but she didn't pick it up. She didn't know who it could be, and if it was Viren she didn't want to hear or talk to him. After the phone stopped ringing, she was curious to know who it was and if they would leave a message... but no one did. The phone repeatedly rang the next fifteen minutes, and now she was sure it was Viren. He was so stubborn though too... not once did he leave a message or apologize even.
Jeevika changed her state of mind and talked her out of this sudden misery.
"You can do this. You're strong enough to handle yourself, and your baby. You know whats right and you didn't do anything wrong" she explained to herself while wiping away her tears.
The only way her mind could be distracted was by working, thats what had helped her get through the past three weeks. She went inside the bathroom and changed into a clean pair of scrubs and put on her lab coat as well. She went straight to her research lab sitting with the files she had left unfinished earlier this evening. Breath by breath she looked and tried concentration, but her mind wouldn't let her. She was resenting Viren so much at the moment. Every minute that passed by, made her feel abandoned by him. She quit trying to work knowing nothing could help her concentrate especially tonight and went back to her office where she had a comfortable sofa chair. She turned the lights of and uncomfortably made herself fall asleep forgetting that this night had even happened, until she heard a knock on the door. She carefully got up and turned the lights on and saw her husband standing outside. She stared at him and tried understanding what sort of mood he was in. She opened the door to let him in and then went back to her sofa chair.
v - "Jeevika we need to talk" he said to her simply
Jeevika started crying again but so quietly that Viren couldn't tell till a minute later. He grabbed a tissue and handed it to her, but she didn't take it. He moved to the side waiting for her to stop crying, but she wouldn't. It had almost been half an hour and Viren gave up.
v - "Let's just go home. Its almost 3 am anyways. We can talk tomorrow"
j - "I'm fine here" she said softly
v - "We've both had long days, we should go home and sleep Jeevika"
j - "I told you I'm fine here Viren. You can go and do whatever you want to"
He knew she was going to be stubborn, so he decided on doing the same. He sat on the sofa across the room and just waited till she responded or gave him some signal. Both of them sat there thinking in their own frame of mind about each other, their future, and this baby that was to come sooner than ever now. Both thought hard and painfully till eventually they fell asleep early morning.
