Stupid Little Mistakes.
"Finally. Vardhaan Sir maan gaye! Now back to FITE, comfortable beds and regular life" Vidushi declared, her hands on her hips as she watched the others pack up their tents.
"Itni Khush hone ki jarurat nahi hai...Exams bhi aa rahe hain." Jiggy picked up his bag and balked at the thought.
"Chalo Ji, exams ke bahane se Kaustuki ji bhi college aegi" Yoyo whispered.
Jiggy gave the older man a glare and this made Vidushi roll her eyes.
'Kabhi Kabhi lagta hai ye meri life nahi, kisi daily soap opera ki story hai...Pehle ye ruthe hue Love birds aur phir ye Ajeeb Fevicol-Chashmish-Joker love triangle. Aur meri khud ki tragic lovestory. Kisi ne uski bollywood movie banadi toh badi super hit movie banegi.'
She picked her own bag up and sighed.
The one and only scarf she had in her bag was wrapped around her neck.
The mark he'd given her was still sore and touching it was slightly painful.
She forced herself to scoff 'Yeah right. Painful hi hoga. Uske liye bhi..Mistake tha after all'
And so, she'd covered up the mark with foundation the day they had gone to teach the kids.
The foundation had ran out today and she was forced to look like an idiot, wearing a scarf in stiffling heat.
Yoyo had taunted her, and she had given him the most mean glare she could manage.
She was struggling with the weight of her bag. It was going to be a long walk to the bus station. Vardhaan Sir was leading the group, followed by Randhir, Sanyukta, Jiggy, Yoyo, Parth and finally Vidushi.
Vidushi walked with diffuculty, taking great care not to trip. She knew if she fell, nobody would bother.
Especially not him.
Sweat was drenching her hair and she cursed at the lack of a hair tie. It was in the bag and if she stopped, she would fall behind. Not worth it. Especially since the person infront of her was Parth.
He wouldn't even blink if she managed to get lost.
She forced herself to walk quicker, but kept adequate distance from Parth.
She was completely drained. His insults and taunts she could take. But not with the heat, the trek and the weight on her back.
She had never been happier to see the sight of a rundown bus stop. She sat herself down on the seat, not caring about what it would do to her clothes and took deep breaths.
From the corner of her eye, she saw Parth offer Sanyukta a water bottle. She saw Sanyukta offer the same water bottle to Randhir.
She averted her eyes.
She didn't want to let anyone see the tears starting to build up. She pulled out her scrunchie and pulled her hair into a bun. The air hit her neck and she sighed. Better. Much better.
"Paani ji?" she heard Yoyo ask.
She looked up and saw him offer the same water bottle that was passed around.
She accepted it with a smile.
For once, she didn't have to fake it.
-----------------------------
Fifteen minutes later, the bus finally arrived.
Shouldering their luggage the youngsters boarded the bus.
Vidushi bagged the window seat, intending to spend the whole drive back sleeping and feeling the breeze on her skin.
The seat beside her would be occupied by Sanyukta, she mused and frowned, closing her eyes and preparing herself to bear the girl.
She heard the sound of a bag being dumped beside her.
"Excuse me, this seat is mine." a husky voice growled.
Parth!
Her eyes flew open to see Parth glaring at a middle aged man.
A middle age man who had his eyes on her. She shivered, wishing she was not wearing shorts but longer jeans instead.
Her tounge was frozen in her throat.
The disgusting look in the man's eyes made her brain stop working.
Parth sat down beside her and spat at the leecher " Apni gandi najar apne Paas rakho. Niklo." the menace in his glare made the man turn way and sit in the neighbouring seat.
Parth took off his shirt and draped it over Vidushi's exposed legs. "Don't take it off till we reach FITE." he ordered.
She mummbled the appropriate thanks.
Normally, she'd be giddy with joy that he'd saved her yet again.
Right now, she felt like a liability. An unwanted responsibility.
She closed her eyes and turned away from him.
Sleep refused to come to her and she decided to spend the whole drive looking out of the window, trying to control her tears.
Failing miserably.
----------------------------------
Parth looked at the slightly exposed skin that was uncovered when Vidushi turned around to face the window.
His hands flew to adjust the shirt on her legs before he knew it.
Unfortunately his fingers brushed against the bare skin.
He felt her stiffen and he removed his hand immediatly.
Shit!
'Now she's going to stick to me more than ever.' he frowned
"Listen, It was.." he began
"A mistake. I know. It always is." the bitterness in her tone shocked him.
She pulled off her scarf and drapped it over her legs, handing back his shirt to him wordlessly before she turned away.
Parth put his shirt back on, fixing his eyes on her profile.
Her lips trembled.
Those same lips and been pliant and soft when he'd claimed them.
'It was a mistake. I was drunk' he told himself.
-----------------------------------------
Her head was on his shoulder.
She was sleeping, her soft breaths warming him.
Her hands were clutching her laptop bag.
She looked so peaceful.
Parth couldn't help but smile at the innocence she displayed in her vulnerable state.
He couldn't bring himself to push her away.
"I'm...sorry..." she mummbled "I..can't...stop.."
He looked down at her, her breaths were still even and her eyes closed.
"loving..you...worst mistake..." her disjoint words were like a punch to his gut.
Love.
She loved him?
"Not..anymore..I'll stay away...promise...for you" her mummbling grew softer.
He felt the pangs of regret.
The mark on her neck where he'd laid his claim on her body was like a physical reminder of his savage attack on her.
She'd taken it, knowing that she would only get scorn and hatred from him later.
He was confused.
Who was the real her?
He intended to find out.
---------------------------------------------
"Wake up...we are almost here!" someone shook her gently.
Vidushi's eyes opened and she was horrified to find her head on Parth's broad shoulder and his hand on her arm.
She pushed his hand away and took her head off his shoulder, trying hard not to blush.
"Vidushi.." he began.
"Mistake. Sorry." she cut in, quickly taking the scrunchie off and letting her hair down.
She took off the scarf and covered the mark on her neck.
----------------------------------
She was avoiding him.
Her eyes focused everywhere but at him.
Her turning away from him and keeping a longer distance than a foot.
And walking off to the girls hostel like a wild animal was after her.
Namely him.
He was the animal.
------------------------------------------
"Guys. Ek saath padhai karenge!" Sanyukta's excited suggestion made Vidushi shudder.
More time with the Nightmare team ?
No thank you.
She mummbled an excuse about wanting to get some reference books from the library.
To her horror, Sanyukta chirped "Library! Yes, best idea hai, wahi ek sath padh sakte hai aur off topic baateen bhi hongi!"
Vidushi almost slapped her own forehead.
'Excellent work Vidushi!'
She meekly pretended to follow the rest of the lot into the library, planning to sneak away as soon as the opportunity presented itself.
Unfortunately, Parth had developed mind reading powers.
She winced as he tightly gripped her upper arm and pulled her along.
They found an empty table at the back and Vidushi found herself sandwiched between Parth and Sanyukta.
'Could this day get any better?' she rolled her eyes.
"Okay guys! We need to focus and study strategically.."Randhir was making sense.
"We should divide our timings and have study buddies so that we will have someone to ensure that we do not waste time." Sanyukta added.
"Oh ji- Mein aur Kaustuki ji pair up karenge!" Yoyo declared.
"Are...aise kaise.." Jiggy began.
Vidushi rolled her eyes. 'There they go again. Inka Fevicol tug of war abhi shuru hona tha?'
"Acha...ek kaam karte hai...Main aur Sanyu pair up karte hai" Kaustuki declared, glaring at Randhir's hopeful look towards Sanyu.
"Nahi Kausto, tum mere saath..."Jiggy began.
'Circus freaks hai sare ke sare. Abhi bhi chance hai. Chup chap khisakti hun.." she discreetly made a movement to get up, only to feel the vice like grip on her shoulder, holding her in place.
"Main aur Vidushi pair up karenge. Sanyukta, tum aur Randhir ek sath best kaam karte ho. Your competetive spirit will keep you focused. And since Sahil isn't back yet, Jiggy could form a bigger group with both Kaustuki and Yoyo. Ye study buddy ka idea acha hai, par agar isme itna time waste kardenge toh.."Parth shook his head.
Randhir opened his mouth to protest but decided against it, looking into his book.
Apparently, logic and decision makking skills were other glorious talents of Parth Kashyup.
'Excellent. Ye Sanyukta Mata ke brilliant ideas ka source kya hai? Hamesha mujhe problem mein dalti hai! Ab Parth se bachna aur padhai karna...Multitask karna hoga' she chewed on the cap of her pen.
Parth cleared his throat, making her look up at him with a frown.
"Dekho maine ." he began in a soft whisper.
'Mistake se hua. Don't worry. I don't need a bloody study buddy.'she scribbled down and passed the paper to him, glaring at him.
'I don't care what you need. Chup chap baitho aur padhai karo. Is baar toh cheat maat karo' his angry words made her feel like punching his handsome face.
"Haan toh! Stop interfering and let me study" she growled loudly, making everyone glare at them.
"Sorry guys." Parth frowned.
"Mujhe lagta hai ki we should sit on different tables so no one gets disturbed because of the other pairs" Sanyukta gave Vidushi a glare.
"Fine with me!" Vidushi huffed, picking herself up and taking all her stuff with her to a table near the window.
Parth followed wordlessly, knowing full well why Sanyukta had come up with the study buddy idea.
Randhir.
--------------------------------------------------
Vidushi glared at the fat book in front of her.
Right now, the script was mocking her.
Like Parth was.
The boy was smirking as he was solving problems.
Probably getting all of them right.
Correction, most of them.
'Genius' was unfortunately not one of Parth's many talents.
The title belonged to Randhir.
Vidushi shook her head.
She turned back to the book.
Her head was spinning.
But she new she had to struggle on and get these notes written legibly.
Passing was impossible without that.
---------------------------------------------
He saw her pen fly mechanically across the paper and pursed his lips.
'She will never improve.' he shook his head and glared at her.
But she was too engrossed in her work to notice.
'Chits bana rahi hai madam. Mere Mana karne ke baad bhi' Parth scowled. 'Abhi dekhta hun isse. Sabhi mehnat karke, padh ke marks late hai aur ye ladki cheat karegi? Hone nahi dunga.' he gave her another glare.
She got up from her chair, feeling uncomfortable with his eyes on her.
"I need..reference books" she squeaked, almost running to the back of the library.
'Perfect chance hai.' Parth discretely followed her, knowing that section held the most unsued books and was almost always deserted.
---------------------------------------------------
She exhaled in relief.
Until she found herself against the wall, pinned between it and a hard masculine chest.
The owner of the chest was glaring down at her with a disgusted expression.
She shivered.
"Kabhi nahi sudhrogi tum." his husky voice assulted her ears. "Mujhe hi kuch karna hoga." he moved closer, pressing his body hard into her.
She had a wide open mouth to match her big scared eyes.
She definetly wasn't expecting this.
And to be honest, neither was he.
Her hands tried to push him away frantically.
When he didn't budge, she opened her mouth, intending to scream for help.
His mouth clamped upon hers, taking in the dying shriek.
Her nails were digging into his shoulders and he felt her trying her best to get him off her.
'Not happening you little minx' he thought
He pressed his lips onto hers harder, frustrated when she refused to part her lips.
He bit down on her lower lip, and was rewarded with a tiny gasp from her.
He took her mouth, teasing her tongue with his own, taking her like he had a few nights ago.
She began to respond, gently engaging into a battle with her tongue and his own.
Soon, her clawing nails travelled into his hair and his tight grip shifted to her waist, caressing her back with one hand.
Necessity for oxygen made them break away, both of them panting in order to restore air into their systems.
He pressed his forehead against hers.
"Sorry..I shouldn't have." he mummbled.
Her nails dug into his shoulders.
"Yes you shouldn't have. Mistake pe mistake pe mistake pe bloody mistake! What are you drunk on now? Formulae?" she hissed softly, trying to free herself from his clutches.
He tightened his grip, making her hiss in frustration.
"Just let me be. I can't bear the burden of your mistakes. Set me free. I beg of you" the helpless whisper was like a slap in the face.
"What about your mistakes? You keep on doing the same twisted things again and again and again. Why can't I repeat my mistakes?"
Having said so, he pressed his lips back onto hers, kissing her harshly, making her struggle like a animal caught in a trap.
"Please! " she whimpered, sobbing softly as he pulled her head back by her hair, reclaiming her lips with his own.
"So scared...I scare you don't I? You want more. You want me." he whispered before he sucked on her neck, the skin turning shiny and red from his attention when he pulled away.
"I'll leave you alone. I'll stop looking at you. Just don't do this to me. It hurts." she whimpered.
"I'm sorry.." he began, only to be interrupted by her frustrated growl.
"No I'm sorry! I'm done being a bloody mistake Parth! I'm done pulling myself apart! I'm done with you and this dream team. I am done! Let. me. go!'
"No. I will make another mistake. Once again." Parth moved in closer, making their noses touch.
"Why?" her broken whimper made all his lies and logical attempts to fool himself crash to the ground.
"Maybe I don't want to be right anymore, Vidushi." he stared into her eyes, determined to tell her his true reasons for pushing her away.
"I'm confused. You do things to me. You make me angry and annoyed with your antics and your dirty tricks. You make me want to grab you and make you behave. I hate the way your eyes fool me into thinking you care. Because I'm scared I'll believe you and let myself get hurt. I can't take anymore pain or betrayal. I can't open my heart. I'm damaged goods, Vidushi Kumar and I'll damage you too." he sighed.
His warm breath fanned her face.
Her bruised, red lips curved into a smile "Well, I'm broken too. You can't break me anymore idiot." she pressed her lips onto his neck, sucking on it, feeling his chest vibrate with a growl.
"Now we are even." she began to walk away, a smirk on her face.
"Wait...where do we stand?" Parth stopped her from leaving by capturing her wrists in his hands.
"I don't know? We have made our equal share of mistakes" she smirked.
"Not really, I have to make one more big mistake." he grinned.
"Wh..what?" she stammered.
"This"
His lips were on hers again, soft and seductive.
She moaned into the kiss.
Breaking away, he kissed her cheeks and her nose.
"I'm sorry. For hurting you that night. I was drunk. I shouldn't have kissed you. It was unfair of me to do that. ANd when I yelled at you, I was angry at myself for letting you in. I won't be the best boyfriend. I'll give you more taunts than compliments. I'll grab you more than I'll hold your hand. I'll yell at every guy who dares to look at your amazing, sexy legs. I'll be possessive, demanding and I won't let you get into wrong shit. I'll scold you and embarrass you. I'll be a difficult boyfriend. But if you want me, I'm yours."
"Well, I'm not into easy stuff. You'll do. Plus you think my legs are sexy. Bonus points. However, you need to tone down the taunts. Compliments will earn you kisses." Vidushi giggled.
"Well in that case, can my beautiful, sexy godesss of a girlfriend accompany me back to our table so I can help her with her studies? I don't want her to get low marks or resort to cheating. " he grinned.
"Hmm...not bad for a first try. You get this" she kissed his cheek." I'll give you another kiss if we are done studying" she winked "Maybe"
"Well, thank god for my teaching skills." Parth pulled her into him, kissing her nose.
"Hands off Kashyup. Studies first. We have a lot to do" Vidushi pushed him away.
"Curse studies. Lets get started" he took hold of her arm.
"Lesson 1: Less grabbing, more holding " Vidushi pushed his hand off her and interwined their fingers.
"Wrong. Lesson 1, Miss Kumar is" he pushed her hair back "More kissing, less talking"
He gently kissed her lips.
"Studies first?" her eyes were happy. There was nothing fake about them.
"Studies first." he lead her back to their table.
As he explained the course work to her and corrected her misconceptions, he saw a possibility of their future.
Yes, he'd made mistakes.
And she'd made mistakes too.
But that is how one learns
From mistakes.
And this time, he was not going to let his chance at love escape.
He was done making mistakes.
