Chapter 9

Bad Boy Trying To Be A Gentleman? Right.

"So you're saying you enjoyed your weekend?" Sophie asked, probably for the millionth time. I rolled my eyes, getting annoyed with every passing second. The weekend was finally over. Saturday and Sunday went off quite well. In fact, I would say it was definitely fun. I was glad I could spend time with Jeevika, Zee and as much as I hate to say this... Virat too. It didn't take much time for me to decide that what Jeevika had said was correct. I just had to give him a chance and maybe... just maybe we could become friends?

"Soph, you're getting on my nerves now. How many times do I have to repeat I actually had fun? I mean Virat wasn't bad. He was... different but in a good sense. If that even makes any sense?"

She chuckled and shook her head slightly. Then, glancing at Josh, she gave him a look. Now what that look meant, I didn't know. What was going on? I narrowed my eyes at them, suspiciously. "Come on. What is it that you guys are hiding from me? I can tell by the looks."

I got silence as a reply. No seriously, what was happening here? Oh no... don't tell me! "Please don't tell me you guys are in love?" I blurted out. Josh's eyes widened and Sophie just looked bewildered.

"What?!" They exclaimed in unison. As if finally getting what I said, they burst out laughing. Opening my locker, I gave them both a stop-or-I'll-kill-you-look. They instantly sobered up. "Now tell me what is so funny? You guys are acting weird!" I said.

"Is it us acting weird or is it you?" Josh wiggled his eyebrows, quite stupidly, if I may say so.

"You make zero sense," I replied back. Now this was definitely irritating.

"What we mean is. For hating Virat, you sure think about him a lot," Sophie butted in. I almost choked on my own spit. Okay I know that's quite disgusting! I gave them death glares. "Really? Dude, there's nothing going on between Virat and Me. Plus, I don't talk about him so much as you think I do," I retorted, finally composing myself.

"Sure you don't," Josh replied, sarcastically. Great. Freaking great. My best friends now probably think I have a crush on Mr. Jock whereas I actually don't. Can you just believe it? First people tell me to give him a chance and try to be friends with him but when I do they suddenly think we have a thing going on. Wow.

"You're getting this thing totally wrong. Anyway, I need to get to my class."

I walked away, without another word being said. I forgot Josh had the same class as mine but I still took my usual seat. After a few minutes, Josh entered but surprisingly, he didn't sit beside me as he usually did. Instead, he went on towards Anna, who was a friend of mine even though we didn't talk much. She was cute that way. I glanced over to see Josh shoot me an apologetic smile and I only nodded getting the hint. I turned on my seat, just to look at Virat making his way towards me. Oh shit! I completely forgot he was in my chemistry class. But what really sucked now was that Virat took his place beside me where Josh used to sit.

Kill. Me. Now.

"Hello there Peaches!" Virat said, smirking cheerfully. Just as I was about to respond, Mr Higgins entered and started on his rambling. I instantly started taking my notes. Okay, I may have lied to Virat about not being a good girl because honestly I kind of am. If you call a girl who has never been to detention, takes notes (while nobody else does), does her homework regularly, a good girl then... yes I'm not a bad girl. See? I may be sarcastic and rude, though.

A piece of crumpled paper fell on the notebook in front of me. I glanced at Virat to see him smirking. "What exactly are you doing, Jock?" I hissed quietly.

"Why are you taking notes?"

"Because I want to?" It sounded more of a question. Why the hell was I taking notes when others in the class were busy sleeping? I don't have an answer. He snorted, rolling his eyes.

"You need to enjoy, Peaches!" He said, loud enough to earn a glare from Mr. Higgins. His glare, however, was ignored. And I took it upon myself to ignore the brat sitting next to me. I obviously ended up writing notes again. But God never wanted that to happen. Or maybe Virat didn't want that because I was disturbed, yet again, by a paper ball hitting me on the nose. Shooting him a glare, I snarled. "What is wrong with you?"

The whole class stared at me. Amazing. I could feel heat rising up to my cheeks and I tried to hide behind my books. Virat snickered beside me as I scowled at him. "Would you like to share what you were talking about Mr. Vadhera and Ms. Chaudhry?" Mr. Higgins' voice interrupted our staring contest. While I was shooting daggers at him, his eyes held a twinkle of mischief. He was obviously sitting there with a smug grin. How this jerk managed to bring good grades, I didn't know and I would never know.

"I'm sorry, Sir. Virat here is quite intent up on disturbing me," I replied, confidently, shooting him one of my smiles which usually worked on the teachers. This time, however, it failed to do its magic. Lucky me.

"Oh but I found you quite engrossed in the conversation as well." Came his reply. If looks could kill, I would be six feet under by now. How, in the name of hell, did he think that I was 'engrossed in the conversation'? I clenched my fists tightly, trying not to shout at him. Why blame me when I did nothing?

"Well you definitely are going blind." I regretted saying it as soon it came out of my mouth. There were audible gasps in the class from a few of the students who never thought of standing up to a teacher while the 'popular party', as I call them, looked quite amused and my haters were definitely looking smug. Today, I had more haters. Female haters. If you know what I mean. Virat sitting next to me definitely had to result in that.

"That's it. Detention for you and Mr. Vadhera," he said and started his boring lecture again. Virat was wearing a smug grin while I almost felt like punching him. After the bell rang, Mr Higgins handed us the detention slip. Great... just great. My first ever detention with Jock. It was definitely going to be fun. My friends, you know me well enough to now that that was sarcasm.

* * * *

After sending a quick message to Neil about not bothering to pick me up because of the detention, I walked up to the room I was supposed to go to. I thought it would be quite normal. Going for detention, I mean. But no, I was wrong. My heartbeat quickened as I entered the room and sat down on a desk. A few other people were also there, shooting me an awkward look. Ignoring them, I plugged in my earphone and a song started playing. The teacher was almost asleep, not even caring to look at others who had earned themselves a detention. Sighing, I closed my eyes until there was a loud bang. I opened my eyes. Virat had opened the door, a bit too forcefully. It was still not enough to wake up the detention teacher, though, for he was still asleep and snoring loudly.

With a smirk, Virat took his place beside me and others gave us odd looks. A few girls were whispering angrily, shooting me glares from time to time.

"Hey, Peaches!"

"Hey, Jock! Thanks to you, I'm here stuck in this room," I replied sarcastically. He looked quite amused and raised his eyebrows. "Who said you have to be stuck here?" He asked. I rolled my eyes at that. What did he expect? Us to run away for an adventure. Sure.

"And go on a little adventure while escaping the detention room just to get in more trouble? No thanks."

"Come on, Maanvi! Don't be such a nerd," he replied, pleadingly, making a puppy dog face. Now, that puppy dog face can make anybody do whatever he says. Oh yes... I found it hard to say no. I mean how do you say no to such a cute face? I looked at him again, his bottom lip sticking out and his eyes a bit widened. I groaned in defeat. "Okay."

* * * *

"I can't believe you're making me do this," I said, from the passenger seat of his car. He gave me a smirk. "Everyone falls for this hottie here who happens to be sitting next to you. You know that as much as I do that nobody can say no to me. In short, you're already head over heels for me," he replied, arrogantly. See, that's what I'm talking about! Virat being nice is a rare side while Virat being arrogant, cocky, conceited and narcissistic is the side he shows the most. How exactly am I supposed to 'give him a chance' as everybody says so? It's not like I want to marry him, anyway. It's about giving him a chance to be my friend which itself is quite hard for me. If one thing, I can't even stand arrogant guys or jocks for that matter. Jocks, because most of them are egotistical and conceited who only care about their popularity.

You can guess what my response to that was - I snorted, as usual. "So where exactly are we going?" I asked, curiously.

"Oh you'll see." He smiled slightly and I couldn't help smiling back at the display of his cute dimples. Why smirk when his smile is so... so... amazing? I'm jealous. I found myself taking in Virat's appearance over again. He was wearing a while full sleeved shirt which hugged his body, complementing his muscles. His muscles were perfectly visible and I could totally enjoy the view. Ew, sucks right? He's really very handsome but it's a shame his attitude spoils it all. His dark jeans also looked good on him. My eyes wandered off to his perfect face, his chocolate brown eyes twinkling as usual. His cheekbone was well suited for his face. However, if there's one thing which is the most attractive about his face are his eyes. His eyes are just... perfect. The perfect colour with twinkle and his long, thick eyelashes. Yep, I'm definitely jealous. I wanted him to smile more often; it gave off a very good feeling and it always made my legs feel like jell-o.

"Checking me out, are we?" He said, the smirk evident. I coughed awkwardly, looking away. My cheeks flushed with embarrassment for getting caught. Yes, I was checking him out. I'm, afterall, a normal teenager, right?

"Puh-lease." I, however, didn't want to admit it. At least not to him anyway. "I've seen better," I said and a smile crept up on my lips as I remembered our first 'proper' encounter in school when I had been caught, yet again, checking him out and I said I had seen better. As if remembering, he flashed me his cute smile again. If I would've been standing, I would've directly melted on the ground because of my knees getting wobbly and my ankles turning into jell-o.

"Right, sure you have," he mocked. I mumbled a 'whatever' and the car fell into silence. His car smelled like him and I couldn't stop myself from inhaling the addictive scent. It was, as I said, just great. I stopped after sometime, before he noticed what I was doing. I'm quite capable of embarrassing myself.

"So are you hungry?" He asked, smirking slightly. Oh he knew what my answer would be. Why was he so adamant on making me embarrass myself?

"Starving," I muttered. Nodding, he stopped the car. I glanced out of the window and my eyes fell on a board saying 'Beth's Diner'. Erm.. what was I doing in a diner? I got out of the car, following Virat who was leading the way ahead. The dinner was quite small but it gave a homey feeling which I really liked. It was actually cute! "What are we doing here?" I asked as we sat on a booth. He looked at me as if the answer was pretty obvious.

"To eat," he replied in a 'duh' tone. I nodded as a blonde girl made her way towards us. She gave me a warm smile before turning to Virat and smiling widely.

"Virat! It has been a long time since you last visited," she said in a cheerful tone and leaned in to hug him. I resisted the urge to snort at that. Virat turned to me giving me a smirk.

"Meet Maanvi, Rebecca. Maanvi, Rebecca is Beth's daughter who owns this diner," Virat introduced us. I brought out my hand to shake hers, giving her a smile. She smiled back at me.

"So the usual?" She asked, raising her eyebrows at Virat.

"The usual." He nodded. Rebecca scurried off and Virat turned towards me again. "This is a really nice place. I remember spending my time here a lot. You should try out the blueberry pie I just ordered. It's just... delicious!" The smile on Virat's face made me return his gesture. It was good to know at least something about him, if not everything. It was a start, right?

"Nice. I like the place. I'm paying, though," I said, looking at him. He shook his head in denial.

"No you aren't. I brought you here, so I'll pay. Now sit quietly before I shut you up and I have different methods," he said, waggling his eyebrows suggestively. I fake gagged at the thought of him kissing me to shut me up.

"Gross!"

* * * *

"How much will you have?" Virat looked at me, a smirk on his lips, clearly surprised at my eating capacity. It was my 3rd slice of the blueberry pie now. And when I say 'slice' I mean a big one. So obviously one has to get shocked at how much I can eat.

"Last one. I promise... this pie is delicious!! I'm so going to come here again," I replied, my voice muffled by the napkin I was using to clean my mouth. I took one last bite of the slice on my plate and smiled up at him. Finally I was done eating. Poor Jock sure did have to pay a lot!

After paying, we both walked towards his blue Cadillac. My stomach was full and I was sure I couldn't stuff another thing inside for the next... 1 hour? I'm not kidding, by the way. I'm a food addict.

Virat glanced at his watch and opened up the door for me. I raised my eyebrows. Bad boy trying to be a gentleman? Right. He gave me a half smile before sliding on to his seat next to me.

"So where are we going?" I asked after a while. He glanced at me and smirked.

"It's supposed to be a secret, Peaches."

"I hate surprises. Tell me where we are going," I replied, bluntly. Now don't you think I'm being weird because who knows? He might kill me in a lonely place or something.

"Nope," he said, popping the 'p'.

"Look, if you're going to kill me in a secluded place, then you should know I'll fight back. You could be an axe murderer or something. Or even a rapist! No way... so tell me or I'll kill you before you get to murder me."

He laughed. Oh the nerve of him! "You're funny. And no I'm not going to murder you or anything. Live a little, sweetheart."

I rolled my eyes and checked my watch. "How long is it going to take?" I tapped my foot with impatience, waiting for his reply.

"5 minutes."

I waited for a few minutes and asked again. "When are we going to reach?"

"A few minutes." Came his short reply. I could see his irritation a bit and smirked victoriously. He would finally know how it felt to be annoyed.

"How much time left?" I asked again.

He groaned. "God! You're so annoying. I should've known what I was signing up for."

Signing up for? "What do you mean by 'signing up for'?" I asked voicing my thoughts.

"I told Jeevika that I would try to 'give you a chance', as she put it, to become my friend. She says you're a nice person. Of course she forgot to mention that you're annoying too," he said without any hesitation. Wait. Jeevika said the same thing to him? I felt a bit hurt that he was just acting like this to me because of Jeevika yet I was quite relieved too. I 'disliked' him after all.

"She said the same thing to you?" I asked. He looked at me, questioningly but I just shrugged. "She told me to try to be friends with you and of course I didn't know what I was 'signing up for'," I mimicked him. He let out a short laugh but fell silent. As if something clicked, we both looked at each other.

We both knew what Jeevika was doing.

Shit.

Author's Note

So... my exams are finally over. *Sigh*
Okay, so this is going to be pretty boring and let me warn you, my rant has got nothing to do with the story.
I never thought that I would be writing a story a few years back. Stories, actually. And I know I've improved so much. Most of you have no idea how I used to write when I first started it. It's not that I'm not proud of what I've written but I know how horrible I used to be, then. Those stories remind me that I've improved a lot. I'm still not good. Which brings me back to why I'm actually writing this author's note.
I feel so frustrated at times that I never find the right words to describe something at times. I cannot... I just can't. It's terrible that I cannot express the emotions in words and it's probably one of my problems. I hate it so much. But thank you so much all of you for always supporting me. I'm just fourteen now and to get compliments from you guys is like... woah! I'm no good at writing. I'm no professional, I'm even worse than a beginner.
Today, I don't want you guys to just comment 'nice update' and stuff, I want you to tell me where you think I'm going wrong, what do you think I should do. It would mean a lot to me.
I want your 'real opinion' not the comments you give me for the sake of being polite. I know you guys genuinely mean what you say but it's also okay to criticize me sometimes. It would help me a lot.
Just so you know, I'm not planning on publishing a book or anything :P Okay, well I might if I feel inspired to do so when I grow up. For now, I just write because I enjoy it.
It's full of flaws, I know. But who said things should be perfect?
I honestly don't believe in 'perfection' :P
I have so much more to say but I really don't want to waste your time. So tell me what you think of the update. Again, I want your 'real' opinion :D

Thank you so so so much for waiting :)

Love,
Stella
