"Akkaaa" Ishita ran towards her sister "oh my god I'm so happy that you are here" she made herself comfortable on her sister's bed.
"yeah, the doctor said climate change will be helpful for the baby, you know with the complications. And Delhi has wonderful doctors too"
"I know" Ishita smiled knowingly "where is jiju?" she looked around
"he isn't here, actually he has to finish a lot of work before his paternity leave starts, so he couldn't come to drop us"
"how did you manage alone akka and that too with shravu?" a concerned Ishita asked
"oh I didn't come alone, Subbu is here to drop me"
"oh my God really?" Ishita asked excited "haven't seen him for months. Where is he?"
"he isn't here Ishu, he has some seminar to attend tomorrow, he's representing his hospital, so they had booked a room in the same hotel for them"
"oh, not a problem, some other day then" she smiled
"Don't worry I'll tell him to pay a visit to you at your home"
Ishita's smile faded, she had almost forgot about Raman "No, its ok, I'll meet him when I visit Chennai next"
"what happened Ishu?" her sister asked concerned
"Its nothing akka, tell me how's the baby?"
"No, don't change the topic now, look at me" she turned Ishita's face towards her "Haven't you told Raman the truth yet?" she enquired
"you knew it was Raman didn't you?" Ishita accused
"Everyone in the family knew other than you. Now tell me why you haven't told him already?"
"Its that easy for you people isn't it? I had left him for a reason akka, I didn't leave him to come back into his open arms 10 years later"
"First of all the reason you dumped him was the stupidest of the lot. But that can be forgiven because you were 19 then and you were silly. I don't know why you didn't discuss it with him back then but now you have the opportunity to clear it all and start afresh with him"

"I'll slap you the next time you say that you aren't worth it and I don't know if he will ever forgive you for ruining his life for your stupidity"
"I think I did the right thing and if I had to, I would do it again, don't you see how happy he is with Ruhi? Had I told him about my infertility he would have supported me, married me and pretend for the rest of his life that he was happy but he won't have been happy; my empty womb didn't have to bring emptiness in his life. He loves her. he loves her so much that it hurts" tears made their way out of her eyes "you guys wronged me akka, this pain, it won't have been there had I not been married to him. Haven't I lived without him all these years?" she looked accusingly at her sister "you don't have the slightest idea akka, you don't know how it feels when the man you have loved all your life hates your existence; when he tells you that he loves his dead wife, when he talks to her picture above his bed, a bed you aren't even allowed on; a life-size photo that mocks you and reminds you that she had everything you would never have..."
"but Ishu once you tell him he will forgive you, he will love you again"
Ishita faked a smirk "haven't you heard the phrase akka 'If it isn't forever, it isn't love'. He has moved on. If I tell him the truth now, he will only pity me and trust me I can live a thousand life with his hatred but not his pity. I can't look into those eyes to see pity for me there" she cried
Vandita tried to console her "Its ok Ishu, at least you can try"
She wiped away her tears and said "No, there won't be any other drama here. I had once made the mistake of not giving him a choice so I've decided to let him decide for us this time." She forced a smile at vandu "Ruhi will be home akka, see you around"

Ishita was having a gala time with Ruhi and the other family members when Raman came rushing towards her, held her hand and dragged her to his room. When his family came running to enquire he shut the door on their face.
"why.did.you.lie.to.me" he yelled, his face red with fury
"Raman...I .. I don't know what..." she stammered
He cut her mid-sentence "No more lies there Miss Ishita Iyer, I want the truth, no more games, OUT with it" he said pointing his finger at her
Ishita's heartbeat stopped for a moment, he knew? How? Why was he asking her then?
She gathered some courage and asked "what lies?"
He let out a laugh "what lies? Oh! Shouldn't you be asking which lie? Because there are so many isn't it?" he took a deep breath "ok, lets start with the first one first your Subbu isn't exactly the billionaire you were boasting about"
"I wanted you off my back, so I told the first thing that crossed my mind" she faked annoyance "anything else? Can I go now?"
He clenched his jaws "If you so wanted to get rid of me for him, why didn't you marry him, why is he married to someone else?"
"That's none of your business" she said with equal ferocity and turned to leave
He pulled her back with a jerk "everything related to my wife is my business; do you get that?"
"I don't want to talk about him" she replied, not meeting his eyes
He smirked sadly "why? Did he dump you for a better option just like you did? Tck tck tck... Karma is a bitch isn't it wifey?" he continued "how familiar does it sound? He broke your heart and you still love him" he mocked
Eyes red with tears, she looked directly into his eyes, "yes, he broke my heart and I still love him with each of those broken pieces; the difference in this familiarity is that I still love him; for me love didn't cease to exist the moment he dumped me, I hate him and I love him and I don't know what I want from him... oh! God what am I saying" she murmured the last part to herself and covered her mouth with her palm.
Anger and confusion surrounded Raman but they were soon replaced by a deadly emotion - agony.
He turned and opened the door. By the time she came out of his room, he was out of the house. He walked aimlessly on the road.
She has managed to do that again. Shame on him that he let her hurt him again and again and again. He was a failure. All these years he had worked hard to earn every penny of money to satisfy his ego and all that was a lie; she only wanted to get rid of him? All these years he had hoped in a tiny corner of his heart that she would come back and tell him it was all a lie and that she loved him. He hated her and he loved her just like she did but her's wasn't for him it was for someone else.
He went to a bar. He hadn't touched alcohol ever since Ruhi came to his life, but today even Ruhi's thoughts couldn't stop him. By the time he returned home post midnight he was fully drunk. Everyone in the family had retired to their rooms after waiting for him. Ishita was walking to and fro in the drawing room when the doorbell rang. She quickly opened the door to find Raman swaying under the effect of alcohol. She held him by his arms and tried to stabilize his walk. She settled him on his bed and turned to close the door when she felt a pull
"you are leaving me again" he complained like a baby
"no...no I was just closing the door" she stammered
"Oh! Go ahead close the door" he said leaving her hand
She felt disappointed. Did she expect him to hold longer? Shaking her head she closed the door and went towards the sofa
"where are you going? Come here" he ordered
She thought he was drunk and it won't be wise to start a fight moreover she had never dealt with a drunken Raman; she decided to obey him.
"sit here" he pointed at the space next to him on his bed.
"Raman I...how can I sit on your bed" she fumbled with the hem of her saree
He raised his brow "whats wrong with this bed?" he looked around "maine susu nehi karta bed mei, promise" he said sincierely
She didn't argue and sat there. He pushed her and she fell softly on the bed, he joined her and adjusted next to her
He smiled at her "I have so many things to talk to you... Ishu"
Her heart did a somersault, he called her Ishu, she smiled
"you don't want to talk to me?" he asked complaining with a pout
"of course I do" she smiled at him "what do you want to talk about?"
"anything"
"anything?"
"ah ha" he shook his head
She knew it was unethical to make a drunken man confess and it would also hurt her soul but she could not help it
"how about Shagun?" she slowly asked
"Shagun?" he asked confused
"yes"
He smiled a full smile "Shagun... she gave me the biggest happiness of my life"...
