Chapter 103
Madhu was reading the message Dipali had left in the trash. Dipali's son in BC's hand and above all a senetor's daughter in BC's hands meant that BC could have a huge leverage on government. It was though not a common practice in USA to negotiate with terrorists or with criminals but this was a senetor's girl, who knew what underhand politics the authorities would play here. This was getting even more complicated than she had ever imagined. She took a deep breath and went to her table. They all were getting ready to leave when Madhu thought she saw a familiar face. She turned around but there was no one. She walked with Andrew and Janice to the elevator trying to convince her mind that it was just a figment of her fast pacing mind that she had seen. She tried to concentrate on Dipali for this moment. She knew that these few hours were all that Dipali had so far her son was concerned. Dipali clearly did not know the room in which the kids were kept had she known it she must have mentioned it in her note. Madhu could not go searching the entire hotel on of the biggest in the world to find out which room they were in. Nor could she inquire at the receptions for the rooms which had kids in it. She was unable to come up with anything that could help Dipali.
The elevator had finally arrived and they boarded the elevator along with the hospitality staff and there loads of sheets. Madhu had to stand close to the huge trolley that carried the sheets. All the others were to the other end of the elevator. There was a weird sweet smell in the elevator. Madhu started feeling breathless. She felt as if everything around her was moving and trembling. She stuck herself to the corner of the elevator and waited for this spell to pass off. She feared being sick again but she had taken her insulins right on time and had eaten properly. They were on the entry level and she had to move. Though the spell had passed but she did not trust herself. She some how managed to come out without falling down and walked towards the bench in the hallway. Andrew and Janice noted her discomfort but unfortunately Janice too felt weird though not exactly sick but weird, kind of funny. Madhu felt better in a couple of minutes and looked towards Janice and Andrew who were actually looking at her with concern.
" The lift was to stuffed I guess" said Madhu to them.
"Lift?" question Janice
" Oh I meant elevator, we call it lift back home. Though of late we also seem to favor elevator more" said Madhu smiling
"OK. You are alright now?" Asked Andrew
"I actually too fealt weird in there"
"I am good Thankyou. Could be food wine and then the over stuffed elevator all together, but I am alright now. She smiled
" I think I will go now. Need to report back. Will give you guys a call later tonight" Andrew said to Madhu and Janice and said his goodnights and good byes.
" Did you got to your friend room did you meet him by any chance?" Janice questioned, Madhu was unable to understand for a sec and then understood that she was asking about BC. She was supposed to go to his room. "Oh I did not go to his room." Said Madhu " I actually dropped the idea weighing the risk involved."
"Ok" Nodded Janice though she did not look convinced.
"I will message for my car" Kind of to herself
"OK I will call you once we decide on the casino we are going tomorrow." Janice said to her indicating that she would be informed the next course of action later.

Madhu got the message from RK that he was starting from the parking and would be there in front in no more that 3 and a half minutes. A fond smile crept on otherwise tired looking face of Madhu.
Madhu went to the front entrance and saw him stopping right then infront of her. She opened the front door and sat.
"you took 90 and a half seconds to come here." she said playfully to him. He too was looking grim. He smiled and said,
"So I have 119 and a half second left to use for my own leisure, sounds pretty tempting. Let me see what I can use it for."
"119 and a hlf seconds are quite a hand full if used wisely." Said Madhu
"Since it is Vegas and we are nearly half way into the night I would have opted for some good amount of sex with you" He heard a loud and clear manlike laughter from Madhu.
"That was so not lady like, but since the duration is too small to make out how about a kiss." Madhu was now literally bellowing instead of laughing. RK had not expected this from her.
" Am I being scorned at ? A handsome man like me being laughed at by an ugly duckling like you? He looked at her with as much astonishment as he could enact. His phone rang, he was already in the parking lot of Venetian now. He parked and picked it up. It was from Roger,
"Sir Matthew Pawlyshyn's granddaughter has been kidnapped by BC and the govt has denied to do anything till Abukamov is intercepted. It appears the child is there in ceaser's palace."
"OK what else" asked RK
"Sir nothing more"
"room number in the hotel?" Asked RK
"No clue"
"Try to find it please" Requested RK and hunged up. His tone was more than humble and it touched Madhu. He was trying to cover up his anxiety and concern for Dipali infront of Madhu. He got out of the car and so did Madhu. She noticed a peculiar resignation in his gait. She was saddened and mostly so because she was unable to do anything. He was no more asking help from her. She felt sad that he had to give up on her. They reached their room in silence.
What was roger saying" asked Madhu
"Matthew pawlyshyn's Granddaughter has been kidnapped along with Dipali's son."
Madhu noded and went to the washroom but no sooner had she gone in she was out.
"you said Matthew pawlyshyn"
Yes" said RK
"The attorney of state"
"Yes" Now RK was also opening his eyes wider in acknowledgement. "The same person whom you had thought had appeared weird when you had gone to the meeting."
Madhu nooded and held her head between her hands tired and exhausted. Her head hurt and eyes burnt. She wanted to cry but as always she just could not.
RK could sense her agony but then there was little he could do about it.
"I am also tooo concerned for Dipali and her son. I just don't know how to help her out." Said Madhu.
"Deepali and her son are actually in the most scary situation. They mean nothing to anyone so no one would even be bothered about their safety. Every one else in this is in some way or the other a big shot." said RK
"That is not true RK she is your collegue and she does mean a lot to us as a fraternity." Madhu said to RK ...
Chapter 105
"You know there was a weird coincidence today in the elevator Janice and me both fell sick though she was not as sick as me." Madhu tried sounding Normal and tried to change the subject as she had practically given up hope.
RK immediately ponced on her and held her wrist
"what happened? You took your insulin during the day. We need to check your sugar level now." Within just a few seconds he was back with the glucometer and had pricked her index finger. The sugar levels were absolutely fine. Madhu appeared to be still thinking very deeply.
"I actually felt a weird sweet smell in the lift. I was close to the trolley that soiled sheets in it. I think it was that smell that kind of suffocated me or rather made me feel sleepy kind of." She was talking to herself. "You know I am familiar with that smell just cant think how"
"Could be some kind of cleaning agent or laundry detergent smell maybe" said RK
"no it was something else. I am actually aware of that smell cant place my ingr at it . Anyways we need to find out the room the kids are in, but How? What if we question the hospitality staff" said Madhu. RK kept his gaze fixed on Madhu all the while. She was actually a picture of myriad of expressions right from disappointment to excitement all at the same time. He took a deep breath and said.
"Wow what an Idea why did I not come up with it. Ofcourse because I knew they had atleast 2000 house keeping staff members that is excluding the security and the waiting staff. At the least would take a week to question them and we have only 2"3 hrs to get it done. Oh and I just forgot the need of legal notice to question them aswell. Very intelligent Madhu."
"I think we must give up Madhu you must concentrate on tommorows deal. May be if that con artist is nabbed then we may also get hold of both the children. I don't think the perps would inflict any harm to them. They need them" said RK again.
"More over I suppose that the senator must have already involved the police and other authorities. If the govt is not trying to get the girl back then I am sure there is something bigger going on."
"That is what I fear the most RK. The Possibility of an underhand game or something." Said Madhu
"Dekho James bond I have been thinking about it for quite sometime now and I cannot accept that a govt as strong as AMerican would not be already working on it. They wont just use a child as scape goat let alone a senetor's child. I think you should talk to Janice and Andrew about it." said Rishabh.
"Risking a child would invoke a huge amount of public fury Madhu" He again tried to reason with the James bOnd that was now in a very aggitated state in Madhu's mind.
"Look we must let the authorities work on it assuming that they already know about it or inform them just incase" He again said.
" I don't think we have any other choice anyways." Said Madhu
"What !!!! are you sure Bond that you are agreeing with me?" RK said
Madhu fixed him with a glare and dialed Janice's Number, once through with her story in one breath she waited for Janice's response breathless and exhausted."
There was not a word from the other side for a long long time.
"Hallo, Janice are you there." Madhu asked
"Yes, Yes I am here. How do you know all that. It is not in the media I am sure." She sounded disturbed.
"No but I do have resources."
"What resources Madhu" said Janice
"What makes you think I will disclose them to you? Anyways have faith that I will not divulge anything anywhere else either. Look Janice there is another child also involved in this along with a woman who have been trapped and used. I was just wondering if something..."
"Madhu come down to the address I am texting you to asap. We will not talk over the phone."
"Alright" said Madhu and Hanged up.
"What was thi?s why did you mention Dipali?. It would be like asking for too much Madhu"
"RK an innocent child is more precious than that bas***d of a man. Anyways Janice has called me to this address." She showed him the address that Janice had messaged her. RK did not know what to think but then deliberations was not the need of the hour so he got up.
"Let's go." Said RK

Chapter 106
It took them less than 10 minutes to reach the address that Janice had messaged. It was an office on the road parallel to the strip. It was actually the mayor's office.
"I think you were Right RK the senator has not kept it hidden. He has informed the concerned authorities. They appear to be working on it."
" America works differently I guess Bond"
Madhu shook her head and gave him a lopsided grin and said
"Yeah right Mr America. Now go back and sleep while you can. I will message you once I am done."
"Yes Miss India. Take care" Rk left.
Madhu Nodded and texted Janice as she needed access into the building. Janice came to pick her up.
Once in to the mayor's office she came across many people whom she did not recognize. The only faces she recognized were that of Matthew pawlyshyn, Andrew and Janice. They were all looking at her. She was formally introduced to the mayor, The sheriff and the assistant commissioner of police along with the commander. With the highest ranking officials there Madhu realized that LVPD was all over it. She took a deep breath to stabilize herself.
"Officer we need to know how you got your information." Asked the Mayor
"From our intelligence."
"They got info about the child abducted in our land"
"yes". She was not good at lying. So she kept her answer short and straight forward.
"This is not true."
She remained silent in response for a few minutes weighing her response and its possible consequences.
"Yes it is not true but no efficient detective will ever reveal his her resources. I know that they have two kids one indian and one American as hostage. I also know that the indian kids mother is also more or less captive..."
"Do you know if Abakumov knows about it or not."
"No I don't. But I doubt it."
"why do you doubt it?"
"American govt has no tolerance history on hostage taking and negotiations. I don't think he is that idiot that he will create a red alert even before the deal is struck. It does not aids him in any which way. That child is of no significance politically. Had he done it he would have taken the Senator as the hostage not his daughter. Kidnapping children for extortion is more of indian style" Said Madhu
Mayor looked intrigued. She did not say any thing other than what they were already discussing except that had it been him he would have abducted the senator. That was quite true the senator would have been of more value than the child.
"why do you say it is more of indian style."
"look at the history. Google former chief minister of Kashmir and you would know. Plus we have a history of giving in to the demands of terrorists, not America. So this act would be done by an ignorant person who is more versed in indian system of crime management than in US system" Said Madhu
"Have resources informed you about the resources where he could have kept the children.?"
"NO"
"we are back to square one chief" said Andrew. He looked as if he had been sleep deprived for days.
"Ahh" Janice winced and whispered to Madhu "we are going round and round without any clue. My head has been hurting since evening today. God knows what ever created such an odor in the elevator.
"that odor was really peculiar. I have a weird sense of familiarity with it but can recall what exactly it is" Madhu whispered back.
"I would have all of you rather concentrate on this issue at hand than any other weird odors" said the sheriff. We have now got to devide our resources into two groups. One that would be working on live arrest of Abakumov and other that will try to locate the girl." He said
"There is a boy also in question" this was Andrew. Madhu looked at him surprised and mumbled a thanks.
The sheriff nodded and said "Ok children it is"
" You" he pointed his finger towards Madhu "will be in the group looking for the CHILDREN"
Madhu noded in aquiscence.
"Let me update you all with the plan for later today. It is 2:00 AM now and around 10 :00am I am expecting the arms deal and the exchange of girls to happen. The girls are kept in a house on the mountain Dr. We already are having it manned. No one will be following them when they move out of the house. We don't need any alarms raised. They should reach The Hoover Dam by 11.20 . This is all that we have been able to intercept about the girls. Abukamov Initially was at ceasar's palace but have now moved to his friends place that is closer to Flamingo Road and thus he will easily drive to the SAN Luis Border via California. It is a 6 hours drive. This appears to be his plan as of now." Said the Sherif
"As we already know this is too obvious a plan so let us dwell on some other things that can happen. While we are quite certain that he will cross over to Mexico the point is which route he will take. The shortest but excessively patrolled or the longer ones and less patrolled. His earlier profile clearly shows that he prefferes seclusion isolated routes to operate, but then there is no border that is isolated as souch. Hence I am assuming he will be travelling through the shortest route yet he will be travelling in isolation. That is without a huge lot of company and without the arms. Andrew take from here" said the Sherrif.
"We have still not been able to find out how he will be smuggling the arms. So our major effort should be to arrest him during the deal. This can give us enough evidence to book him under strictest of charges. The deal would take place in Ceaser's Palace atleast the exchange of money and the basic inspection of arms. This being the weekend the place would be full of people so we cannot take much liberty. He was in Roman Tower as you all already know. He has 7 rooms booked under his name and 3 under different names. We have all of them in our loop. His sudden leaving Ceaser's Palace has left us wondering if he is aware of our surveillance on him. He has notused his phone since evening. He could quite possibly be using another phone that is not on our records. We actually have only this much info. Due to the kidnapping of these two kids we are also left wondering of the motive and connection" said Andrew
"God I hate to admit this is a mess" Janice murmured to herself.
"It is always a mess " said Madhu
"So how do we proceed?" Janice questioned.
"We will be deviding our personals into 4 groups one of you including Madhu will be going out right now to see if we can locate the children. I reapeat just locate so that we don't alarm all of them. Our priority is still Abakumov but we will not let the children slip from our hands." He clearly lacked conviction when he said the latter. Madhu knew that priorities were set but yet it was a big relief at least they were aware of it and they were working on it even if it was just faade.
The remaining three groups will man the rooms occupies by the entire group in Ceaser's Palace, His friends place and the junction at flamingo road. We will continue to convey messages across to the control for every activity. We have Captain Mason and his team here to man this control room and to convey the messages as and when required to the concerened team. That is it any questions"
"I would request the sheriff to allow me some kind of a weapon and a permit to shoot in self defence at least. I would be in active field wont I? said Madhu in a rather resigned tone. It was a last ditch effort to get permission to hit.
"Here you go" The sheriff gave her a Glock 9 mm with 6 roundes of bullets. Madhu's eyes were as huge as a saucer. The sheriff appeared amused by her expression or atleased his croocked smile showed that.
"Thankyou" she murmered and literally snatched the weapon from his hand.
" Here is conditional commission card for you to carry with it. You are allowed to shoot in self defence and for defence of people around you. This is a pepper spray, remember to use both of them only under dire necessity. You will answer to officer Smith" The sheriff again said.
Madhu's eyes now resembled a football and she somehow managed to mutter
"I will, Thankyou sir"
Chapter 107
"Time for you guys to move out to look for the kids, disperse" He again said now addressing every one in general. Janice helped Madhu with her jacket after she had worn her holster.
Madhu went out with a group of 5 people. Two detectives Aron and Ethan and two others Joel and Reuben were from enforcement. On their way to the hotel they decided that one of them would try to sneek into Deepali's room if they are not there that is. Madhu had shown them all the pics she had taken from the video and the note from depali. It could give them some clue. The other would try to get some info from the hospitality staff that served Dipali's room. One of them said
"having this little information it is so difficult to work this case out. Madhu I came to know that Balraj is your father."Said Aron
"He is my Biological Father who would kill me without giving it a second thought." Said Madhu coldly.
"Still can you give us some info about his personal habbits." Aron insisted
Madhu told them all she could. She saw Reuben looking away from her. Possibly he was trying to hide his looks of sympathy. Madhu noticed that they were still driving.
"Why is it taking so much time to reach the Hotel? It was just a couple of minutes away." Said Madhu.
"we did not want to sit in the parking and garner any uneccesary attention so we are moving around" answered one of them. They drove to the hotel in silence. All of them went straight to the casino and looked all around the tables to check if balraj or any one from their group was there. Balraj was there but Dipali was not with him and neither was Kuku Bhatia. That meant Dipali was in her room.
DIssapointment was clearly written across Madhu's face. They all came to the main lobby left for their own tasks as decided. Madhu and captain Smith were left behind.
"are the phones of all the rooms in question wired including DIpali's" Asked Madhu
"Yes now it is."
"I will go to Dipali's room. May be she is out somewhere else." She again said.
"No, you will blow up our cover." He responded sternly
She nodded and again and said can we atleast go through the gallery to see if we could get some clue. He nodded and went with her but to no avail. She came back to the reception and was greeted by a wonderful scene. There was a hotel guest who appeared extremely sick was sitting on the sofa nearby and possibly her relative was bellowing away at the manager.
" this is just sick you don't have a separate elevator for your staff especially when they carry these ugly linen trollies. My friend is so sick just because we had to come in the same elevator. It was stinking like whatever. I am going to sue you guys." He roared
"Sir I understand sir but trust me it was not intentional" the manger tried to speak but he was again cut short by that roaring guest.
"No you don't understand this is dirty, who knows what kind of filth these used linen and sheets have in it. What if it was infectious?"
"Sir we have a doctor on call and he will be right here with you."
"I mean can you believe it?" This time he was looking towards all of them. " we got in the elevator with this linen trolley and the staff. They looked pale themselves and we just got in on 15 floor we not even come till 12 that my friend started feeling sick. How weird is that and I started feeling like I weighed 100 pounds more."
Madhu was now alert and the captain noted her change of expression. She quickly went to the guest at the reception ad said.
"Hi sorry to interrupt but you I know how you are feeling. I had the same experience in the evening. These people they just don't know how to manage this place. It used to be so much better last year I had visited."
"I know" said the lady now looking a little better.
"The rooms look so unkept" said Madhu exclaiming. Smith looked at her puzzled but was able to relate what she was saying as he knew that Janice did feel sick in the evening. The sick lady again said "On our 15 floor you won't believe it smells like a lab or something. There was this couple staying in the room next to ours left right away. I should have done so too."
"I feel like throwing up right now" and Madhu just rushed towards the restroom.

Chapter 108
She was followed by Smith as soon as she reached the washroom she messaged Smith to ask all the others to come back they needed to discuss something and they needed to be back on road. Smith messaged all others and himself went to get his car. Within a few mins all of them were on the road driving to nowhere.
"This same episode had happened to us when we were here this evening. Janice and I fell sick."said Madhu
Those linens smelt like chloroform you know like faded choloroform."
" Choloroform!! How can you say that.?" Asked smith.
"I could remember that smell from my Frog dissecting sessions from college where we used raw choloform to make them sleep." Said Madhu
"Frog. You cut frogs in your high school. What ever did you study." Asked Ethan
"Zoology we do it to study the internal structure. And I was so good at cutting them open. You could actually see every thing so well inside there body. Even their thumping hearts." She said with a wicked grin.
Before that other officer could throw up Smith again intervened.
"why is the choloroform smell worth discussing. That smell could come from number of other chemical compounds I suppose that are used in cleaning."
"no I am sure it is chloroform. How about we google it if any other cleaning agent smelt like it." said Madhu.
"I don't google for that I would rather call our forensics"
"at this hour?" questioned Madhu
"they work round the clock" he replied and gestured them to shut up for he was on phone.
"Okay she is right" he said after a little while.
"fifteenth floor appears to be a place interest for us." He again said
"what would choloroform be doing there" said one of them
"that lady said the entire corridor smelt like that even the hospitality staff had fallen ill" said Madhu literally to herself.
"so here is the plan. Aron and Reuben go to the casinos and check if Balraj and company are still there if they are then stay put keep an eye on them.Ethan and joel go and checkin into a room on fifteenth floor. That would be the highest in the Roman tower. Madhu and I will go back to the room that is already in use by our team. As soon as you two get to go into your room try to call house keeping and complain to them about the smell and see what they say. We all shall join you guys as and when we can so that we don't get unnecessary attention."
They all drove back to the hotel . Ethan and Joel went to the reception to check into the room.
"Hi I wanted to check into your Roman tower. Wondering if any of the suites on the top are available." Said Ethan
"Sir actually the ones that are available are going through housekeeping and it will take sometime. It is already 3 am I could give you a room at our other tower for the same price."
The detectives were actually very experienced that they did not let the disappointment show on their faces.
"the room in your other tower but on the top most floor, is it?" Ethan asked appearing interested.
"for the same price as this. Asked Joel looking surprised
"no no no not at the topmost floor, I am sorry if it came across like that." The receptionist had already had a tough go with guests just a while back and she did not want another one.
"we want the top most floor and the view facing the strip" said Ethan quite determined
"and you are not flexible with your budget. I am sorry I don't have anything to offer" the receptionist now sounded pretty unpleasant.
"That was rude." Said Joel
"I am so sorry sir I did not mean to be rude." This was getting difficult again she breathed hard and deep and said. "let me check with the house keeping."
"We do have a room ready on the top but it does not face the strip it faces the collegium." She said
"that is the only one you have?" they again asked
"Yes, or you have to wait for atleast an hour and a half"
"Ok we will take that one. We really need to hit the bed." Joel said again.
She filled in all the details and gave them the keys.
"Have a pleasant stay sir" she said
"Oh yes we will" they said smiling ear to ear on their success.
Once in the corridor they could smell a very faint something mostly cloaked in lavender.
"it is wierd" Ethan said
"it is not lavender nor is it musk but a very weird combination. Do you think we will get something here?" Joel said.
"If we do we have to thank that muffin from India" said Joel again and they both bursted into laughter.
The inside smelt clean and fresh and there was nothing amiss.
"Okay the corridor does smell fishy. The inside does not seems to be affected by the outside" said Ethan on a more serious note
"Something is going on and if that thing is our thing then our muffin was right on." Said Joel
