Amitabh Bachchan, the Mumbai based Gabbar (now Babban) in Ram Gopal Verma's remake of Sholay is very modern and eats pizza and drinks coffee compared to the old one who used to have roasted meat.
Sushant Singh, who plays Gabbar's henchman Sambha, reveals, "There is a scene shot at a coffee shop in Lohkandwala where Gabbar was having a Pizza and coffee. The film has a Mumbai backdrop and he is a bad man of city. I won't tell what Gabbar consumes throughout the film as it is yet to be released. There are many such scenes yet to be filmed".
Sushant, who started his career with a small appearance in Satya, has also been transformed from the uncivilized right hand man of Gabbar to a modern henchman "I can't compare the old Sambha with this new one. The setting of the old film is totally different from this one. This film is set in Mumbai and so my looks and appearance are quite contemporary compared to the previous Sambha."
Naturally, the film will also have some other major differences. There will be no Ramgadh station. Instead a train pulls into C.S.T. and two young men who grew up in Latur step off - Virendra Chavan (Ajay Devgan) and Jai Ranade (Prashant Raj Sachdev).
Soorma (Rajpal Yadav) runs a dance bar instead of a saw mill. And last but not the least, the names of the characters also have been changed – so Gabbar Singh is Baban Singh, Basanti is Ghungroo, Radha is Devi, Soorma Bhopali is Rambhabhai, and Sambha is Tambhe. The movie itself will be renamed Ram Gopal Verma Ki Aag.
With so many changes, one wonders if this can be called a remake of the classic 1975 film anymore.
