MUMBAI: Film actor Armaan Kohli on Monday night drove his Prado Land Cruiser into a man riding a motor-cycle at Aarti junction, near Andheri's Four Bungalows, leaving him with multiple fractures on his right leg. Like Salman Khan, Kohli fled from the accident site, leaving his vehicle behind.
Preliminary reports confirmed that Kohli had been drinking before the accident, said senior police inspector M.A.K. Shaikh of D. N. Nagar police station. But he added that it is not clear if Kohli's alcohol's levels were beyond the permissible limit. This will be known after the report of his blood test is received from the Kalina forensic laboratory in a couple of days.
The injured man, Bijoy Kadvil, 28, said he identified Kohli because he had seen his films. Mr Kadvil, who runs a restaurant in Navi Mumbai, was taken to Dr Gandhi's clinic in Shastri Nagar, Lokhandwala Complex. Kohli, the son of producer-director Raj Kumar Kohli, was picked up on Tuesday morning from his home on Juhu-Tara Road, and taken to Cooper hospital at Vile Parle for the blood test.
Kohli has been charged with causing grievous hurt by an act endangering life or personal safety of others and rash driving. "Since the offence is bailable Kohli will be released on bail after completing the formalities,'' Mr Shaikh said.
Kohli, who had been travelling alone, was on his way to Juhu from Versova. This is the second hit-and- run accident involving a film star this year. Salman Khan on September 28 rammed his Toyota Land Cruiser into a laundry, killing one person and injuring four others.
