MAIN CHARACTERS:

ANDAL

Andal is the youngest daughter of Chidambaram and is a strong, independent girl who stands up for what she believes in. She has completed her medical studies abroad and is planning to do her house surgency in Madurai hospital. Having lived away from home for so long, she is having a hard time adjusting to her strict father's rules and openly expresses her disapproval to him. Her brother Sakthi means the world to her and he is the only person for whom she is willing to compromise her stance. She is aware that Azhagar is trying to impress her and although she acts like she is not interested in him, she cares about him and advises him when needed.

AZHAGAR

Azhagar is the younger son of Murugesan and is an easy going law college student, who spends most of his time with his friends. He has a positive attitude towards everything and is a good person at heart. He loves his older sister Revathi a lot and would do anything to make her happy. He loves to enjoy life but he is also mature and understands the feelings of others. Despite the rivalry between the 2 families, he is very close to Sakthi and has a lot of respect for him. Though he understands that another love marriage will make matters worse between the two families, he has already started falling for Andal and tries his best to impress her.

REVATHI

Revathi is the calm and responsible elder daughter of Murugesan. She is a hard working teacher who is determined to become a Collector. She has a good relationship with all in the family, especially her father and they all are very supportive of her. She loves her younger brother Azhagar the most and wants the best for him. Despite Azhagar's constant praise of Sakthi, she often misunderstands Sakthi's intentions and behaves harshly with him (which is much against her nature).

SAKTHIVEL

Sakthivel (Sakthi) is the younger son of Chidambaram and is a jovial, good-natured person. He has a lot of respect for his father and is very protective when it comes to his family. He is a very affectionate brother and his world revolves around his little sister Andal. Despite the problem in their families, he found a good friend in Azhagar and trusts him a lot. He is in love with Revathi but have not expressed it to her due to the enmity between the 2 families.

SUPPORTING:

Chidambaram

Chidambaram is a retired collector and is a respected man in his village. He is a strict collector even at home and openly expresses his love for only one person - his son Sakthi. He believes that everyone must live by principles and when they fail to do that, he condemns them vehemently. He is very judgmental and stands by his words. He despises his sister Vadivu and Murugesan for betraying him and wants nothing to do with them.

Viji

Viji is Chidambaram's wife and is a very caring mother. She respects her husband a lot and always supports him, whether it is a small family argument or a 35 years old conflict.

Karthikeyan

Karthikeyan is Chidambaram's eldest son and is a Thasildhar in the village. He is an obedient son to his father and this nature of his usually gets him in trouble with his wife, Subhathira but he always manages to escape. He is a soft person with a lot of patience. He is a loving father to his little daughter, Priya.

Subhathira

Subathira (Subha) is the elder daughter in law of Chidambaram. She is very talkative and is usually at the receiving end of Chidambaram's taunts for her antics. She doesn't like Chidambaram's rules and always have a witty comment about it though she only says it in her mind. She enjoys it when Andal argues with Chidambaram and is waiting eagerly for more problems to arise in the family.

Kalaiarasi

Kalaiarasi is the elder daughter of Chidambaram. She is a lawyer and is very sincere when it comes to her profession. She is also very obedient and abides by her father's wishes.

Mangai

Mangai is Collector's youngest sister. She is 40+ years old but has still not married because of her sister's elopement. She is very religious and spends most of her time at the temple. She respects her elder brother a lot but is not scared to tell him when he is being too harsh with the children.

Murugesan

Murugesan is another important and respected person in their village. He eloped with Collector's sister and since then, they are constantly clashing. Due to his hard work, he has reached the same financial status as Chidambaram. He has an inferiority complex about his lack of education and wants his daughter Revathi to become a collector so that he will be equally respected in the village. He is a friendly father and a caring husband.

Vadivu

Vadivu is Murugesan's wife and Chidambaram's younger sister. Though she is happily married to Murugesan, she regrets her hasty decision to elope with him and feels guilty for the pain she inflicted on her family. She loves her husband and children but doesn't want to cause any more problems for her brother.

Aarusamy

Aarusamy is the eldest son of Murugesan and is a Councillor. He also has his own business and is a loan shark as well. He is a money-minded person, who does not understand the hardships of others. He has his own principles regarding moneylending role and believes he can get away even when it is illegal. He is always trying to be superior to the collector's family and often gets into disputes with others when they give priority to Collector's family.

Aarusamy's Wife (don't know her name yet)

She is caring towards her family and is supportive of Revathi, whether it be her exam or her choice of life partner.

Kanaga

Kanaga is the youngest daughter of Murugesan. She is the tattletale in the family and never misses an opportunity to snitch on someone and get them in trouble, even if it's her own sister. She is outspoken and doesn't think much about the feelings of others. She loves to gossip about people and gets jealous very easily.

Friends:

Kaththi

Kaththi is a good friend of Azhagar. He is a chilled out person, who understands his friend Azhagar to the core. He knows about Azhagar's soft corner for Andal. Azhagar and Kaththi usually end up making fun of the other/themselves, while trying to impress Andal and Thenmozhi, respectively.

Poosari

Poosari is Sakthi's friend and right hand man. He is always in "kaavi" dress but does not follow the traditional rules such as being vegetarian, not drinking, etc. He is like Sakthi's conscious, who openly asks Sakthi about his feelings for Revathi, which he tries to hide. He is usually the object of Sakthi/Azhagar's jokes but have no hard feelings about it.

Thenmozhi

Thenmozhi is Andal's friend, who lived in Chennai but has permanently shifted back to her hometown. She is a caring person, who understands the situations and acts accordingly. She knows that Azhagar has feelings for Andal and always teases her about it.

Andal Azhagar is a story about the feud between 2 families . About 35 years ago, Murugesan, who was working in Chidambaram's farm eloped with his younger sister. Since then, there has only been enmity between the 2 families. Each time the heads of the family meet, it ends in an argument or problem. Despite this, Sakthi and Azhagar are good friends but only when they meet alone. Andal, who was not supposed to return for a year has returned to her hometown and the family is elated. But it is predicted that a lot of inauspicious events will take place in the next year, similar to what happened 35 years ago.
