Chapter 38: Incomplete Kahani
Arun and Chaitu's bidaai was a very sad affair for everybody. Emotional atmosphere was cut loose with Charan's and Arjun's jokes making everyone smile.
Relatives and friends slowly began to take leave and return to their normal lives. Maan and Geet along with Arjun and Anushka decided to leave the next day.
"Packing all done Geetji?" Geet heard Charan walk into her room biting into an apple.
"Yes, almost. Bas some things are left," she said zipping up her bag.
"Usme mera dil bhi ek hai," he added his voice dropping. She jerked her head up in shock only to see him wink and chuckle at her. "Mazaak tha ji," he added with a giggle.
"Charan!" she admonished moving past him to the closet.
"Geet the car is"" Anu said walking into the room only to swallow the rest of her words seeing Charan also in the room. "Cherry, I mean Charan, I mean ssir," she stammered to the amusement of Geet and Charan.
"Decide one name you would like to address me by Anushka," Charan chuckled casually taking another bite of his apple.
"Aapkkko mmera naam?" she stuttered.
"Of course I do, remember we all did a dance together?" he said cocking his eyebrow up.
"Arre haan," she said trying to sound normal. "Voh main bhool gayi. Silly me!"
He chuckled and added, "Anyway, cute girls like you can call me cherry, I wouldn't mind at all."
Anushka stood gaping at Charan's remark not knowing how to respond. Geet shook her head setting the bed right, No wonder girls melted like butter with his charm!'
"Anu," Geet called shaking her out of her reveire. "Tum chalo main abhi aayi."
With Anu's exit Geet turned to face Charan setting his hair in front of the mirror. She sighed thinking about her lies that played with his emotions. Resolving to set things straight, she walked up to stand beside him.
"All set? Come let me help you," he said seeing her walk towards him.
"Yes but before I leave I want to say something," she began, her voice laced with guilt.
"That I have a chance with you?" he piqued causing her to gasp.
She gulped wondering how to reply when she saw him smirking again. Realizing he was pulling her leg again, she scrunched her nose in irritation. "Mr. Ram Charan Teja," she began with a serious tone, "aap mere mazaak uda rahe ho?"
"Of course hum aapki hi mazak udarahein hain?" Charan said nodding his head vigorously.
"Oh accha? Aur voh kyun" she asked cocking her eyebrow.
"Just trying to keep your mind off your guilt," he added with a serene smile.
Geet's shoulders slumped in defeat and her head bowed in guilt. Charan held her hand and pulled her to sit on the bed. "Look at me Geet," he called softly only to see her shaking her head in denial. "Please." His voice strained in pain. Drop of tear rolled down as she looked up. He reached to wipe it away and smiled nodding a no. "You are not at fault Geet. I am hurt that you are already taken. I wish I could rewind the time and whisk you away for myself. But I really believe that things happen for a reason. I am walking away today with a broken heart but that doesn't mean life has come to a dead end to me. My life moves on as I hold these memories with me forever," he finished with a smile.
"You are a good man Charan," she said looking him in the eye.
"I know," he countered with a cheeky smile. "Now can I please get a proper goodbye hug," he pleaded stretching his hands.
Geet lept forward to embrace him and tightened her hands around his neck. He hugged her back and closed his eyes to savor the moment. A tiny drop made its way down his eye. But before it could hit her skin, he quickly wiped it away. Her grip loosened and she came back to sit on the bed feeling light-hearted.
"Now don't forget to profess your love for him. Bechaare ko aur kitna tadpoogi?" he winked.
"Voh main," she stammered, her eyes cast low. "Vaise tumhe kaise pata ki," she drawled unable to voice the words.
"Bas mujhe pata hai," he said shrugging his shoulders.
"Bas mujhe pata hai," she mimicked him making him chuckle. "Tum koi antaryaami ko kya?" she shot back sounding a bit annoyed.
"Haan toh?" he shot back equally
"Toh tumhe yeh bhi pata chalna chahiye ki kabhi bhi ladki pehle nahi bolti!" she said spilling her thoughts.
"Oh accha yeh baat hai?" He asked grinning wickedly.
Her words sank in causing her to widen her eyes in shock. "I mean... voh... ugh shut up Charan!" She whacked his arm in irritation.
"Teekhai teekhai, I'll let him know that he better spill his guts varna you both will begin singing duets in your oldage," he assured.
"Go to hell Charan!" she screamed scrunching her brows.
"I will darling, only if you promise to accompany me," he winked, unfazed by her temper.
Geet grunted and was about to walk out of the room when Charan came to block her way. "Accha, accha, naraaz mat ho. Main kuch bhi nahi bolunga, I promise," he said pinching his throat.
"Fine. You better keep up your promise, varna!" she threatened pointing at him.
Before Charan could respond, they heard another voice.
"Geet, sab tayaar hai? Shall we leave?" Maan asked walking into the room while fixing his watch.
"Ji, I was just looking around to see if I left anything," Geet replied. "Bas abhi aayi," she said turning to check if she left anything in the bathroom.
Fixing his watch, he looked up to see Charan standing. "Arre aap?" Maan asked curious to know what Charan was doing with his wife. Things had cleared and Charan had willingly stepped back from his romantic advances towards Geet. But doubts lurked in Maan's mind if he was still troubling Geet.
"Just came to say bye to Geet," Charan answered with a warm smile. Maan nodded in reply and gave a small smile not knowing what to say. "She's very lucky to have got you," Charan continued.
Maan eased a bit before replying, "I am the lucky one," he said with a fond smile.
"Of course, to have got a gem of a wife. Aap dono pati patni ban gaye, magar lovers banne ki wish nahi hai kya?" Charan asked.
"Ji?" Maan asked completely taken aback by the sudden question.
"Tell her how much she means to you Maan. She is waiting for you to take the first step," he whispered coming to stand near him.
It took a few seconds for Charan's words to settle in for Maan. Once he realized what Charan meant, he looked up with a surprised smile.
"I'm ready Maan!" Geet just walked in interrupting Maan and Charan's conversation.
"Alright then Maan have a safe trip!" Charan piqued patting Maan's shoulder.
"Thanks Charan," Maan assented his mind still filled with Charan's previous advice. Geet was about to pick up her bag when Maan stopped her and picked it up himself. He slung the bag on his shoulder and waved back with a smile. He wrapped his other hand around her waist and brought Geet closer, much to her surprise but she didn't protest.
Arjun and Anushka were taking blessings from the elders and walked to load their items in the car. Maan and Geet came to take their blessings and urged everyone to visit them in Delhi. Both Chaitu and Arun's parents hugged them and took a promise from them that they wouldn't forget them and visit them regularly for they were also like their own children.
Maan dropped Geet's bag in the jeep and went to sit in the driver seat. He turned to look at Geet and signaled her to come sit with him. Slight blush crept through her cheeks. Lowering her eyes she nodded and was about to walk towards the jeep when Anushka came to block her.
"Arre Geet iss baar you and me will go together. Just girls and boys will come in the jeep. Mazaa aayega what say?" Anushka asked pulling Geet towards the car. Geet was appalled at the sudden turn of events and looked at Maan for help.
"Finally I can spend time with Veerji!" Arjun rejoiced running to sit beside Maan.
Maan's eyes widened in horror as he watched Geet being dragged by Anushka. "Ek minute!" he shouted, "yeh ho kya raha hai?"
"Kya hua Maan?" Anushka asked with an innocent look. "I was just taking Geet along so we can have fun driving back. Any problem?"
"Haan, mmujjhe Geet se zaroori baat karna hai," he spoke coming up with an excuse and hoping Anushka won't catch his lie.
"Baat ya romance veerji," Arjun piqued in nudging Maan's shoulder.
"Arre samjho na, iss jawaani main baat karna ka matlab romance hai," Pradeep answered giving a hi-five to Shekar.
Arjun hooted in reply earning a glare from Maan. "Mujhe kyun ghoor rahe ho veerji? Aapki dharam patni vahaan khadi hai," Arjun teased.
"Oye!" Maan went to smack his annoying little brother. But Arjun quickly dodged Maan's advance and went to hide behind Geet.
"Geet bhabhi please mujhe bachao!" Arjun squeaked hiding behind Geet.
"Arre Maan puttar Arjun ko rehno do, uske peeche kyun pade ho. Teri biwi khadi hai, use chura ke lejao," Shekar hinted making everyone giggle.
"Uncle aap bhi?" Maan asked slumping in defeat.
"Kya kare beta, there needs to be someone for shararats. Aaj kal ke jawaan log bahut shareef ho gaye so we need to make it up for them," Shekar winked.
"Vasie idea bahut accha hai," he said coming to grab Geet and heading towards the jeep. Pushing Geet into the front seat he jumped onto the driver seat. "Thanks uncle! Bye everybody!" he shouted before zooming out.
Everyone laughed at Maan's action and waved them goodbye.
"Chaliye hum bhi chalte hai," Arjun said heading to the car where Anushka was waiting. Promising to meet soon, Anushka and Arjun headed back home.
