Darkness surrounded the room with only one source of light illuminating the small study table. His eyes were closed and his features were relaxed. Anyone who saw him in this position would surely think that he was lost in a peaceful sleep. But was he at peace?
No one could answer that question. Not even he himself.
Some people say life is too short and if you live it to the fullest once is enough. But when you lose the sole purpose of your living how exactly do you see life as. A punishment? A gift? Or just another collateral damage to already dead heart.
He had lost everything in a blink of an eye. Everything...
But most importantly he has lost her. She who had taught him to let go and just live like it's you last day. She who had indulged him in a world of happiness and prosperity. She who...wasn't here anymore. All there was left of her were snippets of memories they had created together. Moments that still came rushing into his mind and made him alive for just that short lived period.
He had woken up a thousand times during the night because of her agonized screams for help. Her pain filled voice that muttered his name in her last breaths. But now that he had avenged her death all that was left was emptiness in his heart which made him question.
Was it all worth it in the end?
Killing the culprit doesn't bring her back does it? She is as dead as she was 2 years ago. He still remembered her smile that would brighten up his mornings every day as he left for work. Seeing her smile would give him new confidence that even though life isn't perfect at least he is with someone whom he loves. And this just made his day everyday.
She had a positive aura that surrounded her. It was obvious that anyone would fall that innocent and pure smile of hers. He remembered playing cards with her when she was staying at his apartment. And once in a while he would sneak glances at her just to see that beautiful face of hers that made him fall in love with her all over again.
But now he was alone. There was no one beside him to comfort him or lend a shoulder to him to cry on. He had never opened up to anyone about his true feelings after she was gone. Nor would he open up now.
He opened the locker beside the table, which held his important documents. Rummaging through it he found what he was looking for. The locket, which he had gifted to her on her birthday.
Although it was a mere ornament but for him it held all the precious moments they spent together. It was a symbol of their love and the bond they shared.
People spend just a day together with each other on a coffee date and they give it the name of love but do they really know what love is?
Love is little fluttering in your stomach that you get when you see someone for the first time. It is that moment when you both realize you care for each other in more than just a genuine way. It is when you realize that you can't breathe in the space where the other isn't present.
He had experienced it all. And he still loved her and will keep loving her until his last breath and maybe even after that.
