Chapter 8
You Left Me With The Spawns Of Satan. Aren't You A Darling?
"Yeah, I'm pretty sure Maanvi will be able to handle them herself. Don't worry I'll be there. I love you," Jeevika said before hanging up and joining us at the living room. I raised my eyebrows at her. What was she talking about? I could handle the guys... and why would I even need to?
Mom, Vanshika and Vikram had left just half an hour ago and so far we had been doing nothing but watching TV, lying lazily on our couch. I wanted Sophie to be here but she had to go to her Grandmother's house for the weekend. Ain't I lucky? Not to mention, Mum had decided to take Imagine with them. Why? I would never know but I missed the cutie pie already.
"What was that all about?" I asked. She smiled nervously and sat down beside me. Okay, there was something seriously wrong here. What was it? I don't know and I needed to get to the bottom of it. Hey, didn't that sound like Major Monogram talking to Perry the Platypus in Phineas and Ferb? Yes, I do like cartoons, you know?
"Erm Maanvi.. please don't be mad but Viren and I are going out for like a date. Do you mind? Please let me go! I'll be back soon, I promise. And I'll make sure the guys don't trouble you but please?" She made a puppy dog face as I gaped at her. What the hell? Jeevika, the only girl besides me in this house, was going to leave me alone with the boys just to go on a stupid date with her fiance, Viren? Oh I hate it.. but looking at her face, I kinda felt bad for her. I mean Viren and Jeevika were like an inseparable couple and for the past few days Viren had not been in town so it was obvious they missed each other. I couldn't just act all selfish and not let her go. "Fine you can go," I said, sighing. Jeevika squealed and hugged me tightly which was kind of suffocating. As I already said before - the Vadheras were quite the huggers. "Um Jeevs... you... are.. suffocating.. me," I managed to choke out. She giggled, shooting me an apologetic smile, and got up after giving me one last hug.
After a few minutes, Jeevika came downstairs looking absolutely stunning for her date. I loved it that she didn't use so much of make up and let her hair down. She was wearing a cream coloured top and a black netted skirt along with it. Her stilettos made her long legs look perfect. I gave her an approving glance and she smiled back "You look really pretty," I said.
"Thanks, Em! And I'm so sorry. If you need anything call me okay?" I nodded in response and she walked out of the door, giving me - once again - a tight hug. I rolled my eyes, closing the door and turned, only to look at the guys standing there with a smirk on their faces?
God, what horrible deed did I do to go through this?

"Decide the teams," Neil said. So after a lot of arguing, fighting, pushing and punching, we agreed on playing Call of Duty. Now you might like to ask why a girl agreed to play Call Of Duty with three stupid boys. The fact is, I like to play COD and so I agreed. About the 'three boys' problem; I'm sure it's time to show some girl power. "That will be Neil and Me; Zee and Maanvi," Virat said simply. Right, so he thought they would win. Two six pack 18 year old boys against a 14 year old boy and a 17 year old girl. Fair game? First of all, six packs are not going to get them anywhere in a game. Second, they were just being overconfident. Or should I just say 'he' and not 'they' because Neil sure knows not to mess with me in COD. So, he decided on telling Virat that he would team up with me. However, Virat had completely different plans and totally ignored my brother to which I smirked and Zee groaned.
"I'll not pair up with Em," Zee said. "She's a girl for god's sake and they don't know how to play games. Let alone Call of Duty." Rolling my eyes, I smacked his head. He winced while I just glared at him.
"For a 14 year old, you sure are a sexist. Girls are way better than boys."
"Prove it," Virat smirked and I just shrugged but then grinned evilly after noticing Neil's expression. Pretty boy was scared!

"Woah, Maanvi! You're amazing at this. Forget what I said before," Zee shouted for the hundredth time. Apparently, our team was leading. No thanks to Zee and all thanks to me. It was great to watch Virat and Neil's faces. Yes, I was enjoying myself. According to the bet, the losing team would do the dishes while the winning team would get to enjoy. Ha! It would be fun to see those dumbheads do the dishes.
"See, you idiot? I told you not to underestimate Maanvi but oh I forgot you are just too overconfident," Neil snapped at Virat who was furiously controlling the analogue. "Dude, how was I supposed to know Peaches was good at this?" He replied.
"I warned you," I said simply to which I got glares from the opposite team. Zee and I high-fived watching their pissed off faces. Oh what would I give to watch their priceless expression every single day.
In the end - as expected - Zeeshan and I won. There were no dishes to be done since we hadn't had dinner. Nobody wanted to cook so I decided on ordering pizza to which none of them objected. The evening was not going that badly, I must say. I thought it would go off horribly, considering Jeevika left me alone with them. She was in trouble, that lady.
The doorbell rang and I rushed to open the door. The pizza delivery guy was waiting outside. Taking the boxes of pizza from him, I quickly paid him and closed the door after muttering a thanks. The boys literally jumped to grab the pizza boxes from me. Rolling my eyes, I settled down on the couch and starting hogging on the pizza. We all had finished quite quickly, except Virat who was eating his last piece now. Zee was whimpering about how he got to have only 2-3 three pieces. That lying git.
"Here Zee, have this," Virat said, handing him the last piece. Zee's eyes shone brightly as he happily accepted it while I gaped at Virat. Did he just sacrifice his own piece for his brother? What was I exactly witnessing? That maybe Virat Vadhera wasn't as big a jerk as he let on.
There was this totally different side of Virat that I got to witness. At school, not many people knew that he usually topped the class and trust me, I only got to know a few days ago. It nothing but added to my curiosity towards Virat. He acted like a jerk to me. I'd heard him tease me until I was close to blowing up, displayed that annoying smirk of his as if he was some sort of prince, displayed cockiness, showed his player-like attitude, used girls and acted like it was no biggie. So yeah he did act like a total badass. But now, I was seeing a different side of him. A side which was nothing like a jerk. I'd seen how caring he was towards Zee and how he acted around his family. He seemed happy with them and his perfect smile would be on constant display not the smirk.
Yes, Virat Vadhera was a complete mystery to me. So, I let curiosity get the better of me and decided to unravel the big mystery - Virat, the jock.

Saying that I had a totally wonderful time would be absolutely wrong. If you think that being thrown in the pool by three guys is fun, then you have to think again. By the time I took another shower (chlorine, my friend, makes me take another shower... always) and dressed into my pyjamas, Neil, Virat and Zee were already fast asleep in Neil's room. I sighed and went towards the kitchen. Taking out a tub of London Dairy ice-cream, I sat down on the seat of the kitchen island.
The click of the door being opened could be heard and the next moment I was facing a guilty-looking Jeevika standing in front of me. She took a spoon and sat beside me, taking a spoonful of ice-cream.
"I'm sorry for leaving," she said breaking the silence. Yeah right, of course she was sorry! She was having so much fun with Viren and was worrying about me at the same time. Yep, that was definitely sarcasm.
So, I decided to snort. "You left me with the spawns of satan. Aren't you a darling?" I asked rhetorically. She chuckled lightly but sobered up when she saw my serious expression.
"What did the baddies do?"
"Threw me into the pool and then slept off peacefully as if nothing happened," I grumbled, devouring my ice-cream. Jeevika pulled me into a hug and apologized. Hugger. "It's okay Jeevs. I know you enjoyed so no point in apologizing. Except being thrown into a pool, I had my share of fun too. I mean beating them in CoD was definitely fun." My lips twitched into a smile as she stared at me disbelievingly.
"You what?"
"I beat them in Call of Duty," I bragged. It felt good to brag once in a while. You may call me a show off but hey! don't tell me you haven't ever bragged and even if you did you didn't enjoy it.
"Oh my goodness! You're my favourite, girl!" With that, I was pulled into yet another tight hug. "However, the guys ought to be punished for what they did to you."
"And how exactly will you do that?" I asked, my eyebrows raised.
"My my, Em! Haven't you ever heard of 'revenge'?" And with that, we both smirked evilly, planning on our 'revenge'. It sure was going to be one hell of a night.

I don't know what was more fun; Planning everything out or actually implementing the revenge act. But we were sure about one thing; their reaction would be fun. Heck, it was going to be more than fun and I knew Jeevika and I were going to enjoy it to the fullest.
I glanced at her, standing on my position. She nodded towards me and we both shouted. "HELP!!" We both shrieked at the same time. Voices could be heard from Neil's room and a grin took place on my face. We both were ready. I was standing at the left side, outside the door, and Jeevika on the other side, holding a bucket full of water mixed with pinkish colour. The lock of the door opened and Jeevika gave me an evil smirk. As if on cue, the door opened to reveal three boys standing at the doorstep. Without further ado, Jeevika and I threw the content inside the bucket on them at the same time. Their expression was... priceless. Confusion was written all over their faces and they didn't know what to make of all this. I could hardly control my laughter anymore and saw Jeevika was already on the floor, laughing her guts out. I clutched my sides, tears now streaming out of my eyes. I hadn't had such a laugh in a long time and it sure felt good. The boys' expression changed to that of understanding and they looked beyond angry to me but I still enjoyed it.
"What the heck is all this?" Neil asked. Oh right, as if he completely forgot the the torture imposed upon me. As a brother, he should have at least protected me but being the jerk he was, joined the two Vadhera brothers.
"Why, it's called sweet revenge, brother dear," I replied back, innocently, batting my eyelashes.
"All we did was throw you in the pool, which is pretty normal. But this is unbelievable! I mean what is this thing? Pink water?" Virat asked, anger flashing in his eyes. Ha! Got the taste of his own medicine, didn't he?
"Be thankful it wasn't permanent colour, Jock. We're quite capable of that," I said. Jeevika flashed me a victorious smile and I held back my own smug one.
"I think it was pretty cool. I like the sound of revenge! Can I join your team from next time? These two are grumpy old men. No fun at all!" Zee broke in. For a second I was surprised but a grin made its way to my lips and I couldn't resist it.
"Of course, Zee! We'll make a good team," Jeevika replied, ruffling his hair but then bringing it back as the pink water dirtied her hands. She scrunched her nose in disgust. We took another look at the three boys who were still standing there, looking quite angry with the exception of Zee, who had an awestruck look. I couldn't help it. I started laughing and just like that the whole corridor erupted in laughter.
"Well, I guess we kinda deserved it. So can we call it a truce now and go back to sleep?" Neil said in between laughs. "That is, after taking a nice shower."
We all nodded in agreement and parted ways to go to our rooms, still laughing. Upon entering my room, I took the opportunity to jump on my bed and relax. A smile graced my lips as I went through everything that had happened. Yes, I definitely had fun.
Jeevika settled beside me after switching off the lights. I yawned slightly and decided it was time to sleep and not talk. We had a lot of time for that. Silence had now enveloped us. Only the sound of the cicadas outside could be heard.
"You know what, Maanvi?" Jeevika suddenly said softly. I turned to face her.
"Hmm?"
"Virat's isn't that bad. He may have that devil-may-care attitude and is arrogant at times but he's really soft at heart," she whispered to me. "Just give him a chance."
I was speechless. I didn't know what to say and finally when I thought I would, she was already asleep. My eye lids grew heavy and I could feel my vision get blurry. And that's when I fell asleep into the deep dark void of dreams, one sentence going on in my mind again and again.
Just give him a chance.
