Before I come to my main topic I am wondering why is jalal guilty for jailing maham?
1) Is it because she is his daima and he feels that bond of a child with a mother?
2) Is it because he feels guilty that she risked her life for him many times but today he punished her?
3) Is it because he feels he took away adham's time, love and milk from his mother?
4) is he guilty he failed to develop a unbreakable bond of love and care with his dai ma?
Let me start with analysing maham behaviour
OK I will term maham as a dai ma and the way she protected jalal on top of fort(in history I read it was hindal mirza who saved jalal/maham/adham from Kabul fort) is that not a part of her duty. Even today is someone's daima or a aayah or a teacher in school is taking care of kids are they not supposed to protect the kids in case of any untoward incident like a wall collapse, terrorist attack, earth quake, crossing road accidents etc.
Will those aayah's or teachers etc say where is my karz for saving you? Will a police officer or army man or fireman say where is my karz for protecting a VIP or civilian? Its part of his duty. They joined the job knowing the risk, they are paid for it, they get many extra benefits for it, they get respected and get many other benefits all life for doing their work above other professionals. Its the same with maham- if jalal was a small layman son will she bother to be his daima or risk her life? Not really
Secondly, she is not his only daima, he had 8-9 other daima's. They must have also cared for him so why is she taking all credit? Like adham missed out on his love and milk, those 8 mother's sons also must have missed out on love and milk because of jalal. So why are they not bothered to ask their milk ka karz?
And if maham had such great trouble feeding a jalal whose mother was away or caring for him she should have told humayun could appoint someone else. But but why will maham complain she always had the ulterior motive of using her karz at a later date to extract a pound of flesh hence she kept quiet. Else a person like Humayun shall get many people ready to be daima of Akbar. Or is it along the way Maham got this plan in her head that she can extract her pound of flesh from Akbar by making her son Adham an king of a state or an emperor itself? And for same sake she enured that other than her no foster mother-father has any hold on Akbar and he becomes a mental and emotional slave to her all life.
Nowadays we see a dog feeding a motherless kitten or tiger cub. Cow provides milk to entire man kind so it can also demand dhood ka karz? But but they are innocent animals they only know how to give love, care, milk etc not demand back their karz
By Maham logic parents can demand from kids anything because they have giving birth karz, teachers can demand from students because of them we become educated and stand on our own feet, siblings can ask of other siblings as they share, teach, play all helping in growth of individual, friends can demand of friends dosti ka karz as they help us in studies etc
Coming to Akbar's case yes Maham did a great service to him no matter the intentions to feed him milk, care for him etc. That is why till date he has forgiven or overlooked all her grave crimes that includes trying to murder him, kill his kids, trouble his wives, humiliate his mother hamida, create misunderstanding bet him and his wives, try to make his other foster fathers mothers fall from his eyes etc. So her karz has been set off by him by a lakh times over already. Now as an emperor if he punishes her she has no right to ask immunity from law or adham has no right to accuse him of taking away his love, care, milk etc . So he need not feel guilty about it. Yes he will be upset that his relationship with a daima has come to this level but that is price we pay for being successful and rich and powerful.
All this dhoodh ka karz has set me thinking were there no cows to give milk in those days? Why depend on a daima milk? Drink cows milk-it shall never demand any karz ever

Right, MA was just doing her duty to the Sultanate , protecting the then heir-to-be Jalal. Dont know what all the fuss is when even soldiers & the like also protect him or give up their lives to save him & the Kingdom it being the paramount duty & dont know why Jalal is feeling so guilty & beholden to her still 😔

Prem I would not view Jalal's feelings as guilt - his very punishment to MA incarcerating her so that she does not add to her sins as she would have to face her maker one day - tells that there is no guilt within him - what he is feeling is anger and compassion - he has this unique ability to empathise with all and see the situation from their pov - and this is what helps him be compassionate and forgive - he understands human frailities - and that is why he has the ability to both forgive and apologise - even with Adham there is no guilt - just a quiet understanding of where Adham is coming from and a quiet acceptance - guilt always comes from shame - and there is no eason for Jalal to feel shame thus no reason for guilt - infact this is also the unique ability of the real Akbar - which Rajat has managed to capture very well.

Very good post Prem .
For all the atrocities that she has committed, there no need for Jalal to feel guilty about punishing her . This punishment has come too late . Mother ... indeed ! Mahamanga gave a whole new definition to the word "mother " .
Jalal 's gratitude , faith and love towards Mahamanga for being his nurse and mentor is clouding his thinking . He feels responsible for snatching Adham's share of love and food from him . Maham had an ulterior motive for everything that she did for Jalal . She nursed hopes of seeing Adham sitting on the throne too . She loved the power that she had as the Prime Minister . She was extremely insecure of Jalal's growing proximity to Jodha because she feared that Jodha would become more powerful than her .She did not do anything for Jalal , including the nursing out of true love for him .
