Urmi's father is a shame on parenthood and fathers across the world.
I'm pretty sure such fathers exist in this world and the show is highlighting such atrocities that occur. As a viewer though it is very difficult to watch this on screen and the heights of insensitivity, chauvinism and regression.
Urmi's dad and grandmother were horrified that Urmi a mere wife and woman would dare raise her hand on pati parmeshwar - umm excuse me where was the mortification when said jamai babu beat Urmi black and blue with in an inch of her life pretty much - oh but I guess thats ok cause he didn't break any bones and she didn't leave the house.
Urmi's father clearly has no feelings for his daughter - his only concern is that she not come back to them - she can rot in hell for all he cares but as long as his facade of being a "respectable" member of society remains in tact - it won't bother him. What is this garbage of "you are married you don't belong here" - Urmi was absolutely correct in asking if married girls whose marriages are not working - do they have no rights to come back to the family that raised them?! Why must women be treated as second class citizens and property - when Urmi's dad was saying all that a) i wanted to slap him b) i wish Urmi had yelled at him and said what kind of a father are you c) I wish she'd said in case you forgot i'm your daughter not a piece of property or commodity that you "sold" to Samrat with a no return policy.
Absolutely despicable.
