Reason behind Bulbul and Purab

I recently started watching the show again, I watched the show when it first started so I'm missing out on what happened in between. I don't really want to sit down and go through all the episodes right now. Would anyone mind telling me why Bulbul and Purab are separated? And why does Abhi, Aliyah, and Tannu think Pragya is Purab's love? Also what was the basis behind Abhi and Pragya's wedding?

Well, it's all based on a series of misunderstandings. Here's how I would explain it:

• Aaliya comes back from Australia, and based on Purab's behaviour, she suspects he may have someone else in his life
• Purab tries to keep his distance from Aaliya, not acting like a boyfriend/fiance should, and he tries to tell Bulbul about his engagement with Aaliya, but things keep getting in the way and he never gets the chance to tell her
• Bulbul asks Pragya to meet with Purab so she can get her blessing to continue her relationship with him - for them to really be a couple, after they both admitted they liked each other
• Pragya goes to Purab's office and meets with him alone. Aaliya sees them together and assumes that Pragya is the other girl in Purab's life. She takes a picture of them talking in the office and starts to plot about how she will get rid of Pragya and how she will punish Purab for betraying her. Later she tells him that she understands he got distracted while she was away, but now she's back so he needs to let go of the other girl. When he refuses, Aaliya says she will make him marry her, not because she loves him, but because of her zidd; she won't accept anyone taking away something that is hers.
  
• Bulbul goes to Purab's house to deliver some papers, but Aaliya is there, talking to him and trying to get close to him. Bulbul sees Aaliya hugging Purab, from a back view. She believes Purab has betrayed her based on what she heard Aaliya say about them being engaged for a year. She decides she won't have anything more to do with Purab.
• Meanwhile, through the matchmaker, Abhi-Pragya's rishta is proposed to the elders because their bhagyas match so well. Also Daadi has already met Pragya on previous occasions and wants her as her bahu.
• Aaliya tells Abhi that Purab has betrayed her, and that the girl in his life is Pragya, whose rishta has come for him. Aaliya believes that Pragya is a middle-class gold digger, and she doesn't think that Pragya loves Purab. She thinks that Pragya would leave Purab if she could find a richer man, so Aaliya convinces Abhi to marry Pragya to get revenge on Purab.
• Abhi confronts Purab, who admits he loves someone else, but he doesn't say who. He tries to explain it wouldn't be right for him to marry Aaliya. Abhi is very hurt and it seems like this will break their friendship.
• Abhi agrees to marry Pragya because of Aaliya's insistence. Also, he feels the pressure from Daadi about getting married. He had proposed to Tannu, but she rejected him, saying they would have to wait a year because of her modelling contract. Abhi had planned to delay Daadi for a year, pretending to be interested in the rishtas she proposed. With the whole Aaliya-Purab thing, Abhi decides he will marry Pragya to get her out of Purab's life, but he won't stay with her longer than a year, when Tannu will be free again. Aaliya convinces Tannu to accept this plan, saying that the marriage will be meaningless as Abhi could never fall for someone like Pragya.
• Pragya agrees to marry Abhi because the rishta comes under the name "Abhishek Prem" (his real name) and it seems like an acceptable match. Her mother is very fragile after the whole mess with Suresh and Pragya doesn't want her health to deteriorate. However, when Pragya finds out that Abhishek Prem is rockstar Abhi, she goes to his house to tell him to break the proposal, as they could never get along and have a happy life together, since they think too differently. Abhi doesn't like the way she talks to him, and wonders who she thinks she is to talk to him like that.
• When her family finds out that Pragya asked Abhi to break the rishta, Pragya's mother collapses again. Due to this, she is forced to change her mind, and she decides to go Abhi and take back what she said. However, before she can do that, he himself comes to the house. He sees her wearing a heavy, expensive heirloom necklace given to her by his Daadi as shagun. When she says she has changed her mind and does want to marry him, he assumes it's because of this expensive gift - he takes it as proof that she's only after money.
• Pragya doesn't find out about the misunderstanding between Aaliya and Purab until the day after her wedding. Then she decides to keep it a secret to protect Bulbul and in concern for her mother's health. When Abhi taunts her about being a golddigger and about her relationship to Purab, she says that yes, she loves Purab, because she wants Abhi to keep believing that. She prevents Purab and Bulbul from telling Abhi the truth.

Yeah actually a few weeks ago I rewatched & made notes on these scenes because I wanted to be absolutely clear on how the AbhiGya MU started, for reference in possible future fics. I still can't quite understand how Aaliya made her big assumption; I guess it was that in addition to seeing them together alone, she heard Pragya tell Purab something like "I would be happy for this relationship to go forward," and she didn't hear the context about Bulbul. Sigh 😕

I think Pragya said to Purab I am happy with this marriage or rishta.
