http://www.ndtv.com/article/india/told-smriti-irani-history-books-must-change-says-man-behind-ban-on-wendy-doniger-book-565092 Quoting a particular part of the article -
Speaking to NDTV, he tore into what he described as skewed history teaching in schools.

"Why are there just two lines on Maharana Pratap and two pages on (Mughal emperor) Akbar? Historians have made heroes of somebody like Aurangzeb," he said.

Dear DT - if you dont deem the same fit for discussion- u may close this thread - there is no intention to comment on political part of the article...

Just sharing this article - coz I do believe that we hardly were taught about MP at all in our history...I for one only knew about the chetak-pratap story...and the haldighati war...which was wrapped up in just about one paragraph in the said book...and it would be nice to see Maharana Pratap getting acknowledged a lot more in our history books...after all he was our first freedom fighter in true sense

totally agree - even the famous details of his guerilla warfare skills invention or his living life in forests for a long time or even the whole jagmal-Pratap-shakti - siblings issue - none of it is spelt out in our books...its very upsetting...
considerably we do have some stuff on shivaji maharaj...but nothing at all on Maharana Pratap

My sentiments are same Hiru! Believe me we were never told the great history of Rajputana. Instead we had to learn the whole of Mughal Du=ynasty. Akbar had great virtues, we can take it as a virtue or a shrewd move by the great emperor... but In that respect MP was greater than him. Being Indians we must know how much of a Patriot he was and how much he inspires us.
Its sad that he is ignored so much.

absolutely😊 its wonderful that atleast on state level - they are dedicating a book to history of rajasthan...
however, I wish it was incorporated in the studies for 10th board - thats common across the country na - ICSE/ CBSE board...I think Independence + world wars + Mughal era is covered extensively in it...

Absolutely Poloz😊 he fought for his right in 15th Century, if only others would have thought the same, maybe just maybe we could have prevented the advent of foreign countries in India...it just made it look easy to invade India, coz Mughals managed it due to internal fights...laid an example for them to come in the same way...in all this one man stood up and fought till his death...in adverse conditions, even when his own brothers had left him...

Even if we go for Administrative service exams of Rajasthan like RAS, etc , That too contains an optional paper for Rajasthan's history. But the point is Rajasthan mein to hoga hi as MP yahi se belong karte hain. Maza toh tab ayega when it will include by Central board of education as well . :)

yes in CBSE there is only world wars, mughals are common, but in RBSE Rajasthan's history has a individual book along with these other books, but now i think there is a common syllabus only as NCERT. Usmein kafi short kardiya hain Sayad. But still B.A etc degrees mein to its still there & various competitive exams mein to hota hi hain
