Do you guys think racism exists in India or in the Indian society ? (Not necesarily based on religion but on the origin of the person)

Do we biase our opinion about people based on where they come from ? Do we judge them from the language and people tend to alienate people from different communities who speak different languages and tend to favor people who speak their own language ? Do you think racism exists in India ?

Most likely; I have only seen discrimination based on caste.

😆 matrimonials are biggest tribute to your point above...both on regional and complexion front with a good measure of caste and gotra thrown in as well😆

Yes, regionalism happens, but I hear about the skin color issue more
often. I am tired of people thinking that light skin is beautiful and dark
skin is not. Even though it is a little better now than it was in the past,
many people still believe in theory. 😒 I wish more people would
realize that whether we are black, white, brown, yellow, blue, green, or
red....we can still be beautiful.

*sigh* *sigh*

I am a racist/regionalist as well. I do tend to judge people based on their regions, in India. I will not say it is right or wrong, but I think it is unavoidable.

Everyone has their pre-concieved notion of Bengalis, South Indians, Punjabis, Gujratis etc etc.. and judging them based on their origin is bound to happen.

Complexion discrimination! *sigh again* I don't think India is ever going to stop that. "Wanted a fair and beautiful girl for a wheatish complexioned boy." 🤢 😡

For one split second I read "body" instead of "boy" and my eyes became the size of dinner plates! 😕

I do agree though that Indians discriminate on basis of caste, class, religion, place, culture, language.... gender...erm....running out of breath here! Over the years, I have started believing that its a pretty natural thing to do for humans I think. Its just not India, its all over the place!

I THINK IS NOT SO MUCH RACISM BUT MORE A DIFFERENCE IN THE CASTE SYSTEM. I AM NOT SURE IF IT HAS BEEN ABLOLISHED IN INDIA BUT IT STILL MAKES A HUGE DIFFERENCE. A WEALTHY PERSON CANNOT MARRY A POOR PERSON BECAUSE IT AFFECTS THE FAMILY IN MOST OF THE INDIAN MOVIES AND SOAP OPERAS YOU SEE IT BUT I LIVE IN THE CARIBBEAN AND SOMETIMES THIS STILL HAPPENS IN OUR OWN INDIAN CULTURES.WE HAVE THE INTER RELIGIOUS MARRIAGES AND THE INTER RACIAL MARRIAGES AND MOST OF THOSE HAVE WORKED OUT FINE BUT NOW THE GENERATION FROM THE 80'S AND 90'S ARE ALOT MORE LIBERATED AND DEFY THERE PARENTS ONLY TO END UP IN DIVORCE.
YOU SEE EVERYONE CAN BE YOUR FRIEND BUT NOT EVERYONE CAN BE YOUR FAMILY.
I HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH MIX MARRIAGES BUT AT THE END OF THE DAY WILL YOU BE THERE WHEN I AM 90. AND MOST WILL SAY NO.
AT THE END OF THE DAY IS WHAT VALUES YOU PARENTS HAVE GIVEN TO YOU THOSE WILL BE YOU MOST VALUABLE POSITION.

FROM WHERE I SIT THE BOLLYWOOD INDUSTRY HAS A GREAT INFLUENCE OF INDIA. AND THEY CAN USE THERE POSITION TO INFLUENCE THEIR PEOPLE.

I READ IN A SHAH RUKH KHAN BIOGRAPHY WHERE HE SPEAKS OF THE DIFFERENCES IN RELIGION BETWEEN HIS WIFE AND HIMSELF BUT HE FOUGHT FOR WHAT HE BELIEVED IN AND GUESS WHAT IT WORKED OUT FINE BUT REMEMBER HE BELIEVED IN WHAT HIS MOTHER HAD TAUGHT HIM. I AM NOT A REALLY BIG FAN BUT YOU MUST GIVE THE MAN CREDIT FOR HIS ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND HIS STYLE.I PREFER ARJUN RAMPAL BUT NEED SOME BETTER ROLES HE LOOKS GOOD WITH SHAH RUKH KHAN. ANYWAY LETS NOT STRAY.

BUT THAT IS JUST AN OPINION THAT COULD BE MISCONCEPTION.

I think in most societies the regionalism and racism has a very subtle presence. But it jumps out in India and becomes evry vocal. I have seen i DU that girls from NE are ridiculed and laughed at. May be a one off incidence but it was quite a sad sight that too in the capital of our country. Even within India when people from one state move to another state they do face a tough time getting accepted as a part of that society.
