We had a DEMO on this App in our office yesterday in the presence of Director General of Police, U.P.

Nirbhaya@NOIDA is a mobile application, by U.P. police to alert and inform police and your trusted ones about an emergency situation. In emergency, the App is designed to send an sos containing video, audio and your current latitude/longitude on google maps to your emergency contacts and police control room.

In order to use the Application, you are required to have a compatible mobile telephone or handheld device with GPS, internet access, and the necessary minimum specifications Android OS 3 up above.

This application is a must for all girls.

Just few queries Is it applicable to other police stations too?

There is a same App called VithU which works on same line but it does not have any contact with Police. Emergency message is sent to your selected 3 phone numbers.

@onlinebuddy75, this application is meant for only Noida currently. It's also into Beta testing as of now. Gradually it would expand its network to whole UP and then to India.

You would be able to find many similar application in the open market. However this one directly raises alarm in nearby Thana wherever you are metro/city/town/Tahsil/village as well as it connects to your trusted ones. During Beta testing many ladies said that they received a callback from police in less than a minute time.

The google apps associated with it shows the latitude, longitude as well as the height from the ground. i.e. If you are in a multi-storied building, it would tell the no of story you are in :)
