Chapter-41:

Thirukkural: (Chapter-78; Poem-774)

The hero who after casting the lance in his hand on an elephant, comes (in search of another) will pluck the one (that sticks) in his body and laugh (exultingly).

-Thiruvalluvar.

I was going to faint, that was when, I collected my strength for the last time and kicked him on his sensitive spot hard as I was struggling to get some air to fill my lungs.

The kick worked well and he released the grip from my throat.

I coughed and turned to see his position.

He was helpless and was struggling to take a breath as I did.

That was enough for me to smite him hip and thigh.

When I was going to hit him for the last time, he started talking unbelievingly and he was not done yet.

"You can nab me. But you can't touch our boss. See he'll come for you! You'll face the fa-"

He started smattering weakly and I gave him a cuff, which shut him up once for all.

The police men were helping much. They started arresting the guys who were still breathing and who were ready to surrender.

Ayesha had not yet returned.

I was dealing with a guy when suddenly I heard a phone. It was a land line; I guessed and thought from where the phone was-

I suddenly realized that we saw a telephone on a table near the side entrance, as we entered I had thought what the purpose of a land line was.

I called one of the police men to handle the guy who was being smashed by me and ran toward the phone through the corridor. I reached the hall clumsily.

The phone was ringing for nearly a minute now. If it was not picked up the caller- my best suspicion was the head of the gang, the friend of the beard man who would get suspicious and would escape from us.

I picked up the phone.

Arjun heard the phone and he quickly finished the job at hand and ran toward the phone. He heard the phone was still ringing. He tried to run even faster and reached the door to the hall. Suddenly the ring stopped short.

His every single nerve started jumping as the message reached his brain.

He came to a stop at the door as he entered in and saw me picking the phone up.

His shoulder dashed the door and it let out a clear sound as it hit the wall behind.

I picked up the phone.

I heard a 'Hello!' from the other end as the hitting fell through the phone.

Arjun was standing there with a frown on his face, watching me tensely that what would I tell to the caller.

After taking the phone as I was nearly going to say, 'Yes, Chief!', I got the fact that I had not yet decided by what name I could call the caller, if it was the head.

The caller started talking, knowing nothing of my position.

"I'll be there in ten minutes. Is everything ready?" he asked.

I had to answer for two questions then. Suddenly I remembered the words of the fellow, who nearly succeeded to kill me, in a flash.

'If our boss comes-'

I put the phone away from my mouth and shouted, "Yeh, be quite guys! Boss is on the line," and into the phone, "Tell me now boss! Everything is ready," I replied him.

"I'm coming!"

He said and cut the call.

Arjun's frown slowly turned into a small smile and I saw the hint of appreciation in his eyes.

We stood there, looking each other a moment.

Suddenly I shouted, "Oh, God, he'll be here in ten minutes!"

Then we started acting fast. We had to hide the guys from view, no matter they had still life in them or not.

The head of the back up team called and informed that they were ready to move in at any moment.

Arjun said to come in after ten minutes.

"Sir, we are ready! He can't smell anything!"

"Just make sure, once he entered into the gates."

We cleared everybody from view and stood ready to catch the boss when Ayesha came to inform that she could not find the girl anywhere.

We were in the hall then. We had to act fast, but the boss had not yet come. We were confused at whether to search the girl or to wait for the boss to put his foot into the trap.

Arjun suddenly said, "The box!"
