Celina Jaitley's LGBT video in trouble
Celina Jaitley's debut music album that supports LGBT rights and was launched with much fanfare seems to have fallen into trouble already. A political party has called for a ban on the video in India. The video has got over one million views online and become one of the United Nations' most watched videos ever.
A spokesperson for the political party said that the LGBT community is not victimised in India like it is in Western countries and hence there is no need to publicise a video against homophobia. When contacted, Celina said, "It is sad to hear of this news specially after getting1.5 million views world wide. Putting a ban on the video is not a solution, educationg people about homosexuality is the only solution. Change often begins with difficult conversations and our aim with my video for United Nations is to bring forward a difficult conversation in a light-
hearted way through the universal language of music."
"As for the perpetrators of the ban saying homosexuals do not face any violence or challenges in India is concerned, it's time for a big wake up call as not only are they subjected to black mail and threat on a daily basis thanks to section 377, they are constant victims of harrasment at work. With no right to life and protection of law, the LGBT community is forced to live a life of immense social and emotional challenges in our country," she added
