@Nandini...here are citations from CE translation:

This what actually happened: Draupadi was not even mentioned

After some time, he mistook a lake with crystal water, adorned with crystal lotuses, for land and fell into the water with his clothes on. On seeing him fall into the water, the servants laughed out in delight and on the instructions of the king, 4 gave him fresh clothes. On seeing him in that fashion, the immensely strong Bhimasena, and Arjuna and the twins, all burst out in laughter. Since he was incapable of bearing insults, he could not tolerate this. To save his face, he did not even look at them. He again drew up his clothes to ascend firm land and all the people again laughed out aloud.

This is what Dury said after he got back to Hastinapur : He imagined that Krishna and Draupadi also laughed at him

O lord of men! I again saw a similar pond full of lotuses. Thinking it to be made out of crystal, I fell into the water. At this, Krishna and Partha 46 laughed out loudly at me, and so did Droupadi and the other women. This pained my heart. My garments having become wet, the servants gave me others on the king's 47 orders and this too made me more miserable.

@Frappie...here you go. Draupadi laughed in the RM version but she never said those infamous words:
Despite himself, Duryodhana gasped. What had seemed like a shimmering pool of water, with lotuses growing in it, was obviously just the polished floor inlaid with marble lotuses. Duryodhana gave a laugh and, with the Pandavas watching him, he stepped forward and fell into that cunning marble pool full of the clearest water and white lotuses. With a cry, he plunged in up to his chest and Bheema, Arjuna, the twins and Draupadi burst out laughing. Even the guards laughed ; they all knew that envy raged in the Kaurava's heart. Only Yudhishtira was dismayed.

Quickly, he ordered fresh clothes fetched for his cousin; but it was not the end of Duryodhana's shame. He passed off his fall into the crystal pool in apparent good humor. He changed his wet clothes and bravely declared he wanted to see more of the sabha's wonders . But it seemed Mayaa's curse followed Dhritarashtra's son. At the next atrium, he was seen walking gingerly across a section of the floor that may just have been water , but was not. Draupadi barely restrained her laughter. Inside the sabha itself, Duryodhana managed to walk straight into a solid glass wall that he thought was an open door onto a terrace. He struck his head painfully and staggered back . Draupadi lost control and her laughter rang out in golden peals. She sat down on a chair and, holding her sides, laughed helplessly; while four of her husbands joined her and the fifth, Yudhishtira, did his best to quieten them. But it was too late; Draupadi's laughter entered Duryodhana's ears like smoking oil. Somehow, the Kaurava managed to keep a straight face and his eyes turned from Panchali and the younger Pandavas, who by now were convulsed with mirth, tears streaming down their faces. It was sweet revenge for everything he had tried to do to them and they couldn't resist. Only Yudhishtira suspected it, but this was also destiny at work through a woman's terrible laughter.

actually as per CE and KMG VH was never planned by duryodhan

i mean after rajsuya yajna duryodhan only planned to snatch the kingdom away from yudhiishtir through dyut sabha.Winning or humiliating draupadi was never part of the plan

I could be wrong, but it seems like RM version, has also included some of the author's interpretation.

anyway, the bottomline is, if you want to blame someone for the dyut sabha and VH then you should blame it on duryodhan's ego, because it was the trigger for these events.

I remember reading somewhere in D&D thread that this dialogue was the brain child of a stage depiction of the epic centuries ago.. will try to locate it and post here if I get time..

It is possible

In the 18 th and 19 th century people blamed a woman's behaviour if she was molested. So in order to blame the happenings on Draupadi those people might have created this dialogue

Unfortunately it has become very deep routed in people's mind set and many people take it for the truth

Though times have changed and as mindset of blaming the woman has changed people take it as even if she said it then too what happened was wrong

But the dialogue has stayed that is why star B not showing it was taken as distortion by many

Nandini I think this post of yours should be pinned as Draupadi is being insulted over and over again and again on this dialogue for no reason I know you started this post the other day after all we both dint want to fight in the other thread the reason for making this post in the main forum was also to clear certain myths of certain members...

I guess Draupadi will never be spared from such accusations...
Accusing a character of something that he/she had done is one thing. But accusing falsely...I don't know wat to say.
Some people don't want to let go off their false beliefs, despite the facts being put forward.
