Bangalore Days review: A joyous trip you musn't miss!

Movie:
Bangalore Days

Director:
Anjali Menon

Cast:
Fahadh Faasil, Dulquer Salmaan, Nivin Pauly, Nazriya Nazim, Parvathy

Avg user rating:

In her maiden film Manjadikkuru, writer-director Anjali Menon explored the theme of homecoming. In her latest offering, Bangalore Days, she looks at the life of a few youngsters in Bangalore who are away from home.

Arjun (Dulquer Salmaan), Kuttan (Nivin Pauly) and Divya (Nazriya Nazim) are cousins, who arrive at Bangalore for various reasons. Arjun lives life on his own terms, Kuttan is a typical techie and Divya is married to Das (Fahadh Faasil), a high-flying corporate executive.

The cousins go through turbulent times but it is their affection for each other that keep them going. They face situations mostly with a smile and their attitudes keep the viewers entertained in a big way.

At close to three hours the film is a bit too long and yes, the story being narrated is a pretty simple one for sure. But there are moments and incidents that any of the viewers can connect with, which is perhaps the strength of the film. The story goes along predictable lines, but it has been packaged in a chic way.

It's never easy to handle three bright young heroes in a film, but Anjali does it with great elan. The characters and their stories have been written and executed in an impressive way. Sameer Thahir's visuals are top notch and Gopi Sundar's music is fine.

Fahadh Faasil, who had a sensational 2013, has his best role of the year so far and the hero is in full form. Nivin continues with his dream run after 1983 and Ohm Shaanthi Oshaana. In the film, he is the funniest of them all. Dulquer is back with a bang after some disappointing outings and looks absolutely stylish.

Among the girls, Nazriya is full of life and Parvathy comes up with another terrific performance. Isha Talwar and Nithya Menen have limited roles to play, but they suit their roles perfectly. The rest of the cast is good as well.

Bangalore Days is a young, vibrant film that is colourful and peppy. Grab a box of popcorn and enjoy this trip to Bangalore, the city of dreams for most Malayalis.

Verdict: Good

Box Office Collection: 'Bangalore Days' Grosses 8.5 crore in First Week

Malayalam film "Bangalore Days" has received an overwhelming response at the box office.

The romantic comedy entertainer, starring Dulquer Salmaan-Nazriya Nazim-Nivin Pauly, has grossed approximately 8.5 crore in its first week at the Indian box office. Its share will be around 4 to 4.5 crore.

"#BangaloreDays - Taken best ever opening for a Malayalam film. 1st week gross (98 screens Kerala,105 Rest of India) = Rs 8.5 Crore approx," entertainment industry tracker Sreedhar Pillai tweeted.

"#BangaloreDays - Rs 8.5 Cr gross approximately is phenomenal. Share will b between Rs 4 to 4.5 Cr! Extraordinary! Congrats @AnjaliMenonFilm," he stated.

The multi starrer, which hit the screens on 30 May, opened to positive feedback from critics as well as from the audience. The film has garnered so much of attention that the makers have planned to add English sub titles in a bid to make it popular among all the audience. The film will be screened with the subtitles from this week. "#BangaloreDays now with english subtitles !! By Friday in all theaters ! Bring your friends !! Spread the cheer to even non malayalees !!," Salmaan tweeted.

"Bangalore Days" revolves around three cousins Arjun (Dulquer), Kuttan (Nivin Pauly) and Divya (Nazriya Nazim), who share a close bond since their childhood. They all move to Bangalore for various reasons and how their life changes thereafter forms the crux of the story.

Critics gave positive reviews to the film calling it a rollicking, fun-filled entertainer. It also won thumbs up from the audience and is doing good business at the box office.

Besides the lead actors, the film has a big cast including Fahadh Faasil, Isha Talwar, Nithya Menen and Parvathy Menon in pivotal roles. There are other actors such as Sajid Yahiya, Vijayaraghavan, Prathap Pothen, Kalpana, Praveena and Rekha in supporting roles.

"Bangalore Days" is directed by Anjali Menon who has worked in films such as "Ustad Hotel" and "Manjadikuru." The rom-com has some scenes, which have been taken from director's life, reported theTimes of India. "Like the scene where Nazriya Nazim gets locked up in the balcony, I too was locked up when we moved to Mumbai. It was our neighbours who came to help me," Anjali told the daily.

"The three cousins (Nazriya, Nivin and Dulquer) and the other characters (played by Fahadh, Parvathi and Nithya Menen), these are people who are all around us," she said.

"Bangalore Days" is expected to continue its good run at the box office at least for another week until Mohanlal's much-anticipated film "Koothara" hits screens. Since Mohanlal is a big star, his film will take a grand opening across and it might affect "Bangalore Days" collections.

Must Watch, doesn't matter if you are not a Malayalee, subtitles are available in theatres outside Kerala... It is a celebration of life, relationships, friendship and bond between cousins. Anyone can relate to it. And Bangalore looks absolutely gorgeous through Samir Thahir's camera. Loved it. I'm definitely watching one more time. 😃
