The four Days!
Chapter-38:
Thirukkural: (Chapter-81; Poem-805)
If friends should perform what is painful, understand that it is owing not only to ignorance, but also to the strong claims of intimacy.
-Thiruvalluvar.
We came back to the conference room.
Arjun asked Ayesha to get a map of the factory and its surroundings.
She looked me significantly, before leaving the room. I could not understand whether it was to say don't start now!' or not to start ever!'
I took my seat and numbly watching their process of planning.
Chottu was arranging for men, for the attack.
#
Ayesha returned with the map.
They propped it on the table and observed it.
"Right, it's somewhat alone." Arjun said.
"Shree, can you show me the building in 'GPS'?"
The building was covered by a high compound securely.
There were many trees around it as though to hide the place from view.
"Here, Zoom in, Shree!"
I did as I was said.
He eyed the building's side entrance and was thinking something.
"I think, we can approach through this door,"
He said after a minute.
We saw a van in front of the building near the front entrance, "That must be the van, he mentioned."
He said slowly.
He tried to see inside the van, but the images were very poor as we enlarged it more and more.
We could see men roaming around the factory and some of them had guns that were standing near the entrance talking to each other.
Once arranged for vehicles and force Arjun turned to us.
"Right, we can cover the place, I think. Let's make a make," said the indefatigable Arjun.
That was the last straw. I decided that I would not take it anymore.
"It depends!"
I spoke for the first time ever since we entered the conference room.
Ayesha and Chottu turned to me bewilderingly.
"On what Shree?" Arjun asked not knowing what was coming next.
"On the fact that whether he believes us or not!"
"He doesn't and doesn't have to, Shree!"
He placed his gun on the table placidly.
"Then how can we believe that he said nothing but the truth?"
"Every single word he said in that room is as true as I'm standing here!"
"But how?"
I felt Chottu and Ayesha were wondering where this was going, if anywhere.
"Well, he had to move to plan B' this morning, once we caught him."
"Oh, really? What makes you think there ever was a plan B'?"
He sighed and looked me in the eye, to my surprise not shockingly.
I held the gaze, all right and it surprised him then.
I started wondering that he knew well what was in my mind long before.
As though he knew my thoughts, he smiled mirthlessly.
Then he should have known that we knew that he was avoiding us deliberately.
I could say that he did not like what he saw in my eyes.
And he would have told I had chosen the wrong time for this.
'For God's sake, he is still repenting to spill out the beans even now!'
Once he was convinced that it would not do any change in me, he said, "I won't say, we are doing the good-" he said it in other words and took the lap-top from me," For anyone," he continued.
He typed something. After a moment he turned the screen toward me.
There was a file opened on the screen and it was the same page I opened the day before. That beast's record file!
"Read his charge sheet, Shree," he said with an edge in his voice, which was new to us.
I shrugged and said, "What's the difference?"
"Please!"
I started reading it, at once.
'Name of the accused, Age, Identification, Address, Crime, Dates- Arrested, Trail...
And what's this?'
I looked him as Ayesha and Chottu came to my side and looked the file.
"Yes, I was the one who nabbed him on that case. And this all happened to trap me!"
That induced my wrath further.
I was fuming on the thought that Sakshi was tortured for him, who hated her and treated her like a poison.
Because of him she had to endure those dreadful nights in that basement.
I was about to explode, when he said, "I was the reason," he was silent for a moment.
"He planned to kidnap her because she was working with me," he said in a lower voice.
"Her fate, she did," I snarled at him.
I was not going to yield.
"He could have..." his voice trailed off. He felt as though his own body had turned as a burden to him. He leaned forward and placed his hands on the table to support his body from falling.
"I really don't know why everybody should choose the wrong turn to reach me."
I got then that he was not listening me.
I could have lifted my siege then, but still...
Chottu interrupted, "Shree!-"
I stopped him with a look.
Ayesha seemed to know better, not to interrupt, stood there still.
There was an unmovable silence in that room for a long moment.
