Hi All,
I've been following EMA since the first episode and I unfortunately had to stop watching it - I just couldn't take anymore twists and turns and alarming gaps in logic. I know that watching or not watching is my choice but I do like to keep up with the written updates to as the show had started out with great potential.
My post today is to make some sense of the show that I really had great expectations of.
When the show started I felt it was to be an inspiring story of domestic workers who work so hard every single day with out any designated days off ensuring the daily domestic obligations of the respective employers are taken care of so they have the time to do "big people things" and how children of such workers strive to break the status quo. Just because the parents do laborious work doesn't mean their children are shackled to the same - they can work hard, be educated and move up the social ladder. I felt the show would high light the struggles of such people - the blatant favoritism of the "rich" child vs the "poor" child - regardless of the fact the "poor" child is significantly more talented and motivated.
I thought it would be Kamla and Kalpana's story - how Kamla worked hard as Neetu's domestic help putting Pakhi before Kalpana just so Kalpana could have a brighter future - how Kalpana harbored resentment towards her mother for always giving her share of love/time to Pakhi. How Kalpana tried to hard to be what her mother wanted her to be just so she can get her mother back so to speak.
The story could have gone in so many directions - everyone battling their own demons - struggling for that little piece of "aasman" - Vithal upset that he could not provide for his family during his peak earning years and having to allow Kamla to work as domestic help... Kamla upset for always having to be at the Kapoor's beck and call just for the sake of Kalpana's future.. Neetu (as horrid as she is) for never being able to gain motherly affection from Pakhi... Pakhi for being the poor little rich girl - significantly emotionally dependent on her nanny as her parents were too busy for her - Pakhi being raised by Kamla struggling at various moral cross roads to move forward based on the values instilled by Kamla or behave with in the boundaries of her lineage and be a "Kapoor"
When EMA the adult Pakhi and Kalpana episodes started it was unclear about the dynamics between Pakhi and Kalpana - were they friends or not? Did they share sisterly affections? Did Kalpi habor blatant resentment towards Pakhi? At times they appeared to co-exist with Pakhi being much nicer to Kalpana but Kalpana maintaining a cold distance - making it clear they could not be friends.
I think the leap started out promising and Raghav's entry should have acted as a catalyst to have these demons surface and each person facing their demons and resolving their issues to attain their "ek mutthi aasman".
What we see now is SO FAR from where the story started - its now turned into a very poorly written - inconsistent/ ill contrived saga of half baked revenge and pining lovers. Granted for some "ek mutthi aasman" could be love or it could be a successful revenge story of these people who's lives have crossed and are now intertwined. Either way I fail to see any consistency, logic or coherence in the story line. What is EMA trying to show?!
