Chapter 42

Nikhil knocked on the door and went in. Geet was just packing her bag to leave.

"Oh Nikhil, do sit down. How are you? How is work?" After exchanging pleasantries, Nikhil got down to the main point.

"Geet, I was thinking about something since quite some time. I want to get married." Geet's tired face broke into a wide grin.

"Really? Who is she? Do I know her? Have you proposed to her yet?"

"Calm down girl, well, you know her and no I haven't proposed yet. I had hoped you could ask her on my behalf."

"Who?" Nikhil hesitated and said:

"Riya." Geet halted, her enthusiasm lowered.

"Riya? But when did you get to know her that well?" It was a little rude shock to find out that Nikhil had been meeting Riya so often and had developed feelings so soon. But Geet was happy. She had known Nikhil for so long now, he was a good guy.

"I will ask her but not now. Her exams are over in a few days, then I will breach the topic." Nikhil looked visibly relieved and thanked Geet.

Vicky didn't know who to talk to. Talks about his marriage were one things, actually finalizing a girl was something else. Especially Riya. He liked her, she was intelligent, cool headed and determined. But she also was sweet, with a good sense of humor and dimples to die for. For a life partner she wasn't a bad choice. He would want her to complete her studies and after that, he knew she wanted to help Geet in MC. So even here there seemed to be no problem. But what kind of person did Riya like? Was she even interested in marriage? He knew Geet would never push her and hence it became vital for him to find out what was going on in Riya's mind. Did she even have a boyfriend? No, she would have told Geet otherwise. Not sure who to ask for advice, Vicky ended up keeping this thought to himself. At least for now.

Riya's exams ended much to the relief of many. Before Geet got the chance to talk to her about Nikhil, Divya and Dadi asked her about Vicky and Riya. Geet was stuck between two people she loved a lot. Not wanting to be partial, she told Riya directly.

"Now don't think I am forcing you. Nikhil asked me about you and so did maa and Dadi. I leave it up to you whom you want to marry and when."

"Bhabi, I am still studying..." Riya tried to end the discussion at this point. Geet held her cheek in her palm.

"I know. I am not saying marry now but since both asked me I could not just ignore their words. Think about it. Only and only if you agree, we can do the engagement now and marriage later."

"Engagement with whom?" Riya asked innocently and Geet smiled.

"With whomever you like."

That evening Riya thought a lot. While she didn't want to get married before she took over responsibility of MC, she found that it wouldn't be such a bad idea to start with. Geet would have one thing less to worry and concentrate more on her new life. Now the question was Nikhil or Vicky. She had to admit, she was a little partial towards the latter. Having known him longer and better, Riya felt that she could relate a lot more to the youngest Khurana then she could to Nikhil. But then, Nikhil was a great person, too. He looked handsome, had a good job and would take care of her as well as Sohan had taken care of Geet. Although both boys were equally good, she found herself being a little partial towards Vicky. What finally convinced her was that she would live with Geet and Armaan and could work at MC at her leisure after her studies. But, before telling Geet, she had to talk to Nikhil. She didn't want him to misunderstand or have a rude shock.
