Bollywood?
It has to be Kaun and Raat.
I am surprised that nobody is mentioning Raat. That was a fabulous film. The whole ambience, the build-up- RGV could make really good movies if he tried. Bhoot was good only because of the wonderful Urmilla.
There are many good horror movies in Hollywood. But as an agnostic person, I have always faced a crisis in faith. This is why movies like Exorcist, Exorcism of Emily Rose affect me to a level where I lose all sleep. I remember not being able to sleep through the night for a week. Not because I was scared. But because the deconstruction of faith was so jarring to me. Rosemary's baby, Carrie, The Shining are other films which have affected me on a more deeper level than superficial scares. These films build up the psychological intensity required in a true-blue horror film- not stupid blood and gore fests like Saw. Antichrist and the first Omen are pretty good too.

The Exorcism of Emily Rose scared the hell out of me. The Ring was frightening too because I watched it when I was all alone at night. 😆
The original Ring, as in the Japanese film, was very good, too.

Another good horror film was the Blair Witch Project.
