i am sure most of you have came by a news that few days ago an entire group of a village population adopted to buddism after being oppressed by the higher caste people for ages. now some questions arises ..

1. the higher caste people are always small in number but usually greatly discriminate the lower class people, so there is always a chance that many lower class people are not so sympathetic to the religion

2. the caste system and it's terror exists and this is one of the main reasons why islam, buddism and christianity could have spreaded a lot in india.

3. hinduism doesnt have a preaching or missionary system .

i dont think hinduism is in any immediate danger of extinction, but it is certainly on the way to becoming a minority religion even in india at the rate things are going imo. lots of hindus who take pride in being tolerant, and find it fashionable to denounce their own activists who try to rally against external proselytzers. and then there is the entire argument about how minorities are procreating at breakneck speeds and how even without conversions, hindus will be outnumbered in another 30-years or so. so much for that way of life. 😊

it is pretty much the other way round now the way i see it..
those who want to mock democracy and equal rights are the ones who believe in it. they are driven by poverty and power-hungry politicians more than their love for Buddhist principles.
Those people blinded by hatred towards one sect of Hindues converting to a peaceful Buddhism is a mockery of Buddhism 🤢. The so called dalits now neo-Buddhists burnt Deccan queen in Mumbai few months ago. I refuse to call them Buddhists, since such converts clearly have no religion imho.

2. the caste system and it's terror exists and this is one of the main reasons why islam, buddism and christianity could have spreaded a lot in india.
Then they should fight for equal rights and justice. As long as they demand reservations, how can it go away?? 😉 One can't have a cake and eat it.

3. hinduism doesnt have a preaching or missionary system .
Preaching Hinduism to spread it would in tself be death of Hinduism the way I see it. 😊 No point / purpose acording to me.

Lbntl, Hinduism is for here to stay.
There are several of us who'd never convert.
If the Govt. cuts off "dalit and oppressed status" once these so -called oppressed😉 folks conert to Buddhism ( since Buddhism / Christianity has no caste system right?) .. we'll see how many will convert. I actually feel worse for those great religions that are being USED by these manipulatice opportunists.
I would clealy not miss them as part of my religion anyway. 😛
It is not the number of people of a religion that matter, it is their spiritual upliftment and leaving a mark in the world as a person to look up to, to follow and to revere as a person that matters. Even if there is one such hindu to be proud of.. Hinduism will live forever. Let's make it two - Adam and eve 😆 j/k

Read this artricle a few days ago. Deals with your topic here. Here's the link:

http://www.stephen-knapp.com/are_hindus_destined_to_become_e xtinct.htm

"Every minute of everyday an innocent Hindu is attacked solely because of his faith. It is absolutely heart-wrenching to see that being Hindu gives almost everyone the right to automatically verbally and physically abuse us. Have we taken ahimsa [nonviolence] to such an extreme that merely standing up for one's own rights has become a dreadful thought? It is a sad fact to say that while Southern Baptists are openly calling for the conversion of "heathen" Hindus, that the vast majority of us sit quietly in our fancy homes and luxury cars falsely reassuring ourselves that "they do not mean me." But indeed they do, and it is happening every minute of everyday in almost every country in the world where we live. So pathetic is the present situation that not only are we being abused and terrorized by the minorities in our own country, but also by the majority population in the lands where we live abroad. Indeed we can distinctly go down in history as the most cowardice race that has ever lived."

If our race becomes extinct, it won't be solely due to castesism or conversion, it would be due to the laid back attitude of educated, professsionally well settled hindus. Yes, I am guilty too. Just teaching my kids Gayatri Mantra and Om Jai Jagdishh Harey is not gonna make them devout hindus...will it...but where's the time to work on instilling the pride of being hindu in them? Where do I start on that and how do I achieve that. But is this even an issue here? After all, we do not see kids of well-off families converting...do we.

Main problem is us bending back to accomodate others and not raising a voice when needed. We hindus have become a community of disunited south indians, north indians, gujjus, maharashtrians, biharis.....and what not. Who the hell cares for just being a Hindu or being an Indian now a days.

High time we stop harping about the atrocities we faced in the hands of all the invaders or non-hindu rulers. Truth, unfortunatley, is that no one can ride on your back untill you bend it. We not only bend our backs but broke them too when we chose to be divided and ruled based on regionalism🤢

Hinduism is a way of life.. not just a religion found in the religious texts or in the temples. No doubt the conversions does seem to reduce the count of Hindus, but the hindu values which are part of our lives, do they really abandon them forever..

I believe that some of those who convert their "religions" never really give up thier Hindu way of life ever. They are in a lot of respects, still a Hindu. They may read a different manuscript, which is not "forced" upon them... completely forgetting that they had the option of reading Hindu scriptures, but do they forget the age old "hindu" habits which they have imbibed over a period of time. They may go to a different religious place of worship.... when they could have easily gone to the temple, yet, some of the values imbibed in them remain.

Eg:- I see Christians coming from Mangalore marrying in Sarees (red at that, in keeping with Hindu traditions) and tieing of the mangal sutra being a part of the ritual.

Thackeray will answer you question better if you post this in his newspaper saamna....😆

Buddha was born hindu, Guru Nanak was born hindu, Mahavir was born hindu.. So in essence all these sub-religions are a form of hinduism...which is what I always maintained that religion is the ego of the community....😊

Well said CB... We should have a ticker which should let us know when the number of followers fall below critical mass so all hindus can start aggressive pro-creation..right away.. ..😆

In terms of population, Hinduism is not even in the top 3 religions but it is nowhere near extinction either.
Freedom, Liberty and Hinduism can never be extinct Imo as there is no religion as accomodating and tolerant as Hindu religion is. 😃
