My previous story talked about Ahil's thoughts on his birthday. This one is about Sanam's thoughts and activities on the same day. Sort of like a flashback sequence. Even though it has a slight connection to the previous SS, it is not a continuation of the story...so can be read as is.

She woke up early in the morning to do Fajr prayers and saw the blinking light of her cell phone. It was a text message from her former assistant Lambu from Punjab. The text message read that the dispute over the land were her dhaba stood is being reviewed by the Panchayet and her presence is required.
Sanam's heart sank thinking of the good times they had and then lost. They were not rich but were ambling away is harmony on a daily basis. Sanam's eyes filled with tears as she remembered the moment Ahil set fire on her beloved dhaba.
A lot has happened since then. Destiny has landed her in his doorsteps to serve him. It was awful at first. The constant bickering and belittling, the accusations, the punishments...everything was a torture to her mind, soul and ego. But then things started to change...slowly...but steadily.
He grew to tolerate her and she grew to adjust to him. He begun to speak to her without raising his voice and she learned to reply without shouting. He cracked jokes at her (without insulting her) and she learned to laugh at them. He learned to help her and she learned to accept it. He learned to ask for her opinion and she learned to give it.
They were not friends in the eyes of the world...they were not even in any standard labeled relationship. But there was something between them that Sanam felt was blossoming.She dared not think that a rich man's son like Ahil could fall in love with a poor orphan like her. Her brain agreed with the logic but her heart did not. A thin wisp of hope lingered in her heart...that maybe...just maybe...he felt the same way as she does for him.
Morning was chaotic. Shazia and Nazia got into more fights and Khala Khalu were there usual hungry self. Begum Sahiba wanted her breakfast in bed and Badi Begum needed her morning medicine. In between preparing breakfast for the crowd and tending to the needs of Badi Begum, Sanam did not get a chance to see Ahil and wish him on his birthday. She missed him by seconds when she ran after him but saw him get into his car and drive away for work.
Dejected and disappointed, Sanam went back to packing her belongings. She had already spoken to Begun Sahiba who allowed her leave for a week.
After she was done cleaning up the breakfast table she decided to bake some cupcakes. She had heard in passing from Shazia that Ahil loved cupcakes. Sanam didn't know what to give him for his birthday and at that moment the cupcake seemed the best idea.
She was barely done baking when the fragrance of the baked goodies brought the ever hungry Khala, Khalu to the kitchen. They devoured almost the whole tray but Sanam saved one for Ahil.
She looked at the lonely cupcake and thought of the best way to decorate it when an idea lit up in her head. A chili pepper!
That's right, a red hot chili pepper was just the thing to put in the cupcake in place of a candle. The sweetness of the cake and the hotness of the chili pepper will depict the perfect character that Ahil portrayed, " thought Sanam.
With the chili decorated cupcake and the hand written note Sanam went to Ahil's room and left the things on his bed.
She quietly closed the door behind her, wished him a happy birthday and left the house to catch her bus to Punjab.
Sanam knew it probably did not matter to him and that he may even throw the cupcake away but she did what she wanted to do and that was to wish him on his birthday.
Sanam would not have had such a restless journey if only she knew the meaning her gesture meant for the birthday boy.
