Chapter-32:
Thirukkural: (Chapter-118; Poem-1170)
Could mine eyes travel like my thoughts to the dwelling of my absent lord, they would not swim in this flood of tears.
-Thiruvalluvar.
Toward the end of the day-2:
Human mind is like a free wheel.
It'd go anywhere as it likes if you lose the grip on it.
That was what Sakshi did.
She had not just loosened the grip, but had lost the grip.
Once got free her mind started going anywhere and everywhere in split second, even before she could know that she had lost the grip.
That was so sympathetic even to herself. And it scorched her whenever it touched a thing with its cruel hand.
She did not know what to do with her irreconcilable heart, which was not consoling at whatever she said to pacify it.
She tried to remind it the pleasant things with, but they did not end without reminding her that they were just mere imagination, a mirage- just the air bubbles on a neat water surface and while they shattered, they shattered her heart into pieces every time.
She felt as though she was standing between the devil and the deep blue sea.
She had heard they would say that love was like an ocean and one could easily know who the devil was here!
After a very long time of putting efforts, she needed a shoulder to cry up on, she confessed silently.
Someone closer to the heart...
She did not know in ages that a motherless girl should miss her dead mother badly.
That night she did.
When she tried to control her sobs a whisper escaped her lips at last, 'Ma...'
.
.
.
After a while she was talking to her absent mind unknowingly.
'This love gives me wounds more than happiness,' she said wearily.
Her mind suddenly came alive and replied.
'No, it always gives wounds one way or the other,' her mind corrected her.
The apostrophe started without any preamble.
She whimpered, 'If only I was Roshini...-'
'You would be dead now,' her mind cut her in and said the undisputed truth.
'Not before he loved me dearly!' she returned.
'----
'How could he think me with someone else?'
She started from the first line, yet again, anew, as her mind seemed having nothing to reply her with.
Instead of comforting her, her cunning mind started to blame her, once hearing her.
'How could you think him with someone else?'- After getting a frown from her, it added, 'I mean it's you, my dear,' it explained.
She could not answer her mind and it welled up her eyes, as she understood her condition well.
She cried silently, for she did not want to attract anyone's attention or disturb their sleep.
She knew at times like that how to cry silently on a pillow, for she was doing it deliberately, nearly every night, if she was home with his memories, now she had to do it here too. 'What a fate! I couldn't even cry freely!'
If only she was allowed, she would cry at the top her lunges, but she felt as though, her mind was laughing at her crying.
She started delving her subconscious as she stopped crying suddenly. She had to answer it. There should be some answer available! She was not utter nave, she reasoned with.
Finally, she voiced her thoughts as if her weeping had never interrupted, she said, 'Because his wife is dead now!'
Before she could take a sigh, her mind returned,' who said so?'
She was looking at it bewilderingly.
'Why, everybody says so!'
'Not he!'
It was true enough to shut her mouth, her mind thought and went silent, for she would be crying; it seemed it knew her well!
Suddenly she said the unexpected, 'If I die, he will know how much I love him!'
'You think? You will just be one of the sunflowers that blow at the slight glimpse of the sun,' it teased her unkindly.
Tears brimmed up her eyes now.
She was starting to dissolve in her own tears, at which her mind came to help her, for the fear that it would lose her forever, if it did not interfere at least now.
She heard its voice again that brought her back to her senses.
'See the sun Sakshi,' it begged her, 'Come on, take a deep breath and now another! Good!'
'Time! Time heals all wounds,' it started.
'Yes, his wounds!'
'Yours too Sakshi,' it said softly.
