Veteran actor Varun Badola is soon to be seen in a pivotal role that of a football coach in Star Plus' popular show Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai. The talented actor who has essayed many diverse roles and was seen in the Celebrity Cricket league will now be seen playing football. He will portray the character of Ruhaan Rajput, Naksh's football coach who has a key role in getting Naksh to play football for an Inter State Football Challenge. It so happens that Naksh has been diagnosed with diabetes due to which Akshara keeps him away from participating in any physical activity. Thus we have the entry of Ruhaan, the coach who takes it upon himself to convince Akshara and Naitika to include Naksh in the championship.

We have seen inspirational coaches in the past like Joe in the movie Bend It Like Beckham, Shah Rukh in Chak De, this one is etched along the same lines. Varun's character Ruhaan will be that of a tough, disciplinarian coach.

When contacted a source from the show said, "The Football World Cup is round the corner and the fever is catching on to everyone. Even in the show we are adding a football element and the release of the sequence at this time is perfect with the mood in the air. Since it is an important sequence the makers wanted to get someone who can actually fit the role and look convincing as a coach. Varun Badola completely fits the role and will soon be shooting for Yeh Rishta."
