1. We like big business families with big houses and even bigger lawns where the whole family can play cricket and pass the parcel. That's just how it is.

2. Also, we really love weddings. And this movie has the biggest, baddest, corniest, most tear-jerking wedding sequence ever created.

3. It's a testament to the agelessness of this movie's music that till date, no wedding function is complete without a few songs from Hum Apke Hain Koun.

4. It re-defined gender roles. Salman Khan played the sensitive yet goofy Prem and Madhuri Dixit killed it with her role as the naughty and vivacious Nisha. Girls just wanted to be that girl and boys wanted to be with that girl.

5. Every character had a place. Portrayals of people teaching English to their servants is a bit elitist and clichd, but it worked out just fine.

6. Bhagwanti Mami. Everyone loved to hate her. She was like the Geoffrey Baratheon of Hum Apkey Hain Koun.

7. Before Hum Apke Hain Koun, coughing meant a bad throat. After Hum Apke Hain Koun, coughing could mean a hundred different things. *Cough Cough*

8. The whole idea of secretly falling in love captured the imagination of an entire country. The idea wasn't novel. But it had been done with such innocence and style, that the modern Indian girl still believes in true love. All thanks to Hum Apke Hain Koun.

9. Tuffy. What a dog. This dog could have auditioned to be Superman's side-kick.

10. A Happy Ending! Watch the movie and get to the part where Prem and Nisha get married. It's one of the few times in your life where you will. Cry and smile at the same time.

Happy film, grandness all around, even a dash of unity in diversity showing those Muslim characters played by Satish Shah and Himani Shivpuri.
Tuffy is not a dog. Remember he is called Tuffy beta by Aloknath in the film who feeds him with his own hands? Itna pyar...itna compassion!

May I add, 90s super handsome Salman in all his innocence and playing the Prem character. Just look at his eyes.
If people wonder why Salman is still popular, you only have to ask how many times have those people seen HAHK and MPK 😉

first of all super duper post.
the climax of this song, joote deh doh, leh loh...had bhai chasing mads and they end up in a bed and the bed breaks.
after watching this scene u can't help but pray to god pls make a dreamy chokra like bhai chase me at wedding party and and we accidently end up in a bed and khaat toot jaye and then we fall deeply in love with each other. #theimpact
serioulsy they should open a museum , where they display all accessories of hahk...especially the dresses of mads. from red dress - yeh mausam ka jaadu, to purple saree, blouses, hair pins, bhai's dresses -especially the one he wore during didi tera deewana.

90s films are not great. It is only that 80s was so bad, cheap, violent and trashy that these clean, sweet happy family films seemed like a whiff of fresh air for entertainment starved family audience.
I know why HAHK clicked but I do not like it for it has too many songs. I have hard time watching MPK also patiently only because of overdose of songs.

Coming to characters, Prem is the ideal guy because he is perfectly handsome, educated, devoted to family and well mannered. He genuinely connects with family and does not fake it just to impress others.

Girl's families are treated like trash in movies and TV shows even now. I am glad that HAHK and HSSH give respect to girls' families too. They do not have to behave like beggars in front of groom's family or constantly feel pressurised.

Ideologically the only thing I dislike about Barjatya films is son preference. Why bahu/bhabhi's first child always has to be a son? People start saying Munna the day pregnancy is confirmed.
