The character Sardar Gehlot is a debonair aristocratic diplomat with the defence ministry and also godfather to the protagonist of the show Captain Rajvir (Rajeev Khandelwal). The character graph narrated to me is very interesting, and unlike anything I have done so far. It becomes more and more intriguing as it unfolds and I am thoroughly enjoying enacting it. And the icing on the cake is it's a top show on the channel.
So it's exactly in contrast to your character in K u m k u m...
Oh yes (laughs). Kishen Katara in Kumkum is loud, uncouth, gawdy, shrewd opportunist, who can stoop to any level for his benefit which is either wealth or women. I am told it's already a hit with the viewers in such a short span. Besides these TV shows, I am looking forward to the release of a few movies I have done.
Your role in D o n was much appreciated, but it ended abruptly...
I think ever since the release of the movie I must have been asked this question hundreds of times. All I can say is the role was conceived and visualised by the director and I for one believe that the director's authority on his work is absolute and unquestionable. He is the one who has the complete picture in mind and does what is in the best interest of his movie. And Farhan has done a great job. Personally, Don fulfiled my desire of working with King Khan and one of the top directors of Indian cinema but now yeh dil mange more... I think I will die a thousand deaths if Farhan doesn't cast me in Don 2!
What about the voice-overs that you've been doing?
I have just finished dubbing for Johnny Depp in Pirates of The Caribbean: At World's End. Honestly it gives me a kind of a high seeing Johnny Depp, Tom Hanks, Hugh Jackman, Jack Black, The Rock, Vin Diesel and all the other Hollywood superstars talking in my voice in the desi versions. Also being an avid movie buff dubbing gives me a chance to watch all these movies months before they are released.
You've just quit smoking...
Yes. I quit smoking last month. Initial few weeks were difficult but I stuck on. I had the will and found the way.
