The Hat couldn't decide where I belonged,

The house with the brains or the house which fought for the wronged?

It placed me in Gryffindor, the House of the Brave,

I fought against the Dark Lord, helped put him in the grave.

An Outstanding student, I had an affinity to cats

I also told an Inquisitive woman she was bats.

Who am I?

McGonagall was a Hats tall. The sorting hat deliberated for over five minutes whether to put her in Gryffindor or Ravenclaw. She eventually went to Gryffindor and joined the Order of the Phoenix, to stop Voldemort. Her animagus form and Patronus both are cats. She once told High Inquisitor Umbrdge that she was " Raving" hence the word bats
