Actor Soha Ali Khan on matters close to her heart, including brother Saif's divorce and father Tiger Pataudi's arrest for illegal hunting
Life is full of twists and turns, especially in the fast lanes of Bollywood. So even while actor Soha Ali Khan has been rejoicing the fact that her film Antar Mahal has been premiered at the Locarno Film Festival, her family has been struck by one controversy after another. First, her brother actor Saif Ali Khan's separation from wife Amrita Singh and his consequent public appearances with girlfriend Rosa. Then her father Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi was embroiled in the black buck hunting controversy.
About brother Saif's marriage ending with Amrita Singh, Soha says, "Any marriage ending is always traumatic. It has to do with my brother and ex sister-in-law. It's not for me to comment on it, all I can do is support them, knowing that it was a very difficult time for them. It wasn't an easy decision and it hurt both of them."
What's Soha's relationship like with Amrita, today? "Unfortunately, I have seen very little of Amrita than what I would have liked to; but it's not because she and my brother have separated. Rather, it's because I've been travelling a lot of late. In spite of whatever has happened, things are not awkward between us. I also meet the children sometimes. I do believe that I have an individual relationship with her."
On a lighter note, Soha talks about Amrita's TV serial, "I have seen her serial a couple of times. I always thought she is a tremendous actor, and I am glad she is acting again."
Steer the conversation towards her brother's new girlfriend Rosa and she says guardedly, "People who cannot get through to my brother or sister-in-law, but want to know the status quo, are using me as a medium. I have met Rosa, and I think she is a very nice person. Beyond this, I don't want to say anything."
But comparisons between Rosa and Amrita are bound to come up, to which Soha says, "I think it's very ugly and unfair to even talk about comparing them both."
Has Soha ever tried to look at the controversies surrounding her brother and father objectively? "It is impossible to be impartial or objective when it comes to your family members. I will always love my father and brother to death, and always support and respect them no matter what they do. It's a matter of opinion whether they are right or wrong in what they did; but they are my father and brother, and I will never say anything bad about them."
On her father's black buck hunting controversy, Soha adds, "I was very concerned about my father because he is not young any more, and the controversy has really affected his health. The matter is subjudice and I can't talk about it."
