Hi guys, one of friends sent this to me and I posting it here for all to read. Please don't give up on EMA. I now we are disppointed with the turn of events but my friend made some valid points. So here goes:

Part 1

Finally, I can comment having just finished watching tonight's episode. My comments are directed to both VIEWERS AND WRITERS/EMA TEAM, so here goes:

Let me start by saying that I would like for you guys to continue watching EMA. Hear me out. In all of my life, I have not for very good reasons looked at Indian or American soaps because they are generally negative. (And I wish to state that I will continue watching EMA only because they have a brilliant cast especially Aashish/Raghav and Rachana/Kalpi. But after this, I am never again looking at another serial). The difference however between Indian and American soaps is the writing; the first(Indian) is highly illogical and foolish, doesn't make any sense whereas the second (American) makes lot of sense logically despite its negative themes. EMA is a serial after all where all the characters will portray different shades, personality, attitudes and behaviour given their purpose in life. They are not supposed to be moral always, act or think morally, though we all would love to see them moral all the time. I guess this depicts the real world we live in. Even in the holy books we find people with godly characters failing miserably, but there is always grace and redemption for such people.

In the Indian industry as well as in Hollywood, negatives, immorality, sex and everything lewd sells. Foolishness sells. In real life soap (whether Lux, Palmolive, Dove, etc) all sell. That is why these serials are rightly called "soaps" because soap sells! We all can't afford to bathe in milk and rose petals like royalties of the olden days. We are stuck with soaps which all of us can afford (lol). If we want to see real change in serials then that change has to come from the writers and producers. Unless that change comes from them, we would never get a good, high quality serial. We will continue to get the Ekta Kapoor serials where infidelity, blackmailing, gossips, bitching, bride swapping, revenge, being left at the altar, etc are the main plot of the story. For the records, I have no respect for Ekta Kapoor. Her movies and serials reveal the mentality and personality of that woman and she is rude and perverted. I don't look at any production from her.

So we can pray for these changes and then we can continue to write and comment to networks, production houses, etc to have their writers and production team stop attacking society's sacred institution such as marriage, and virtues like love and then relationships. I mean I am not against a serial having such things inside (because they add interest to the story and doesn't make it boring) because we do live in the real world after all. And none of us would watch a movie where everything goes smoothly. But when all and I mean all of the serials are depicting these things, then it is a cause for worry. I for one am prepared to make a direct appeal to whomever about these things as soon as I find the right agency to whom I can complain.

With respect to EMA, I am hugely disappointed. It started so well and I, honestly, didn't mind the plot which is about revenge. What irks me about it is, it is poorly developed. All the time I was assessing the writers' skills. With all honesty, the writers were doing well and I simply don't know what happened thereafter. EMA has turned out to be the same as the other serials. Same themes. Same blackmail. Same dumping of the one he/she loves. The same marrying the one you don't love. The same wrecking of marriages and destruction of pure relationships. The same nonsense. My greatest disapproval of EMA and I am angry about it is the serial ,like all others continue to attack the institution of marriage, love and relationship. It makes me wonder why these writers and producers are doing this! It is on this ground I dislike EMA. But if I were to rate it realistically on standards adjudicated to story-telling and movies, then I would rate it high on its ablity to generate suspense, interest, alter the moods of viewers, taking viewers on edge and wanting to see what happens next. All of these make it a successfully serial.

However, I need to be fair and honest about the serial. If the writers wrote the story to accomplish certain things, then I would not interfere with their storytelling, except to say just lay off the mocking of marriage and love. If the character of Raghav is to seek revenge, then fine, go right ahead and write the story of how he accomplishes this. Even, if he wishes to get back his property by devious means. Go ahead. It is a story. If the character of Raghav is to show instability at different stages in his life, then fine. That's ok with me. I understand that in story-telling. A character starts a certain way, meets someone and then changes, but then he is in conflict with his initial self and purpose and the changes happening to him. It happens to us in real life. No human being changes overnight or even within months. There are conflicts within. So I understand the instability of Raghav, though it is a shame they are experimenting with his character given that they never presented his character as instable in the first place.

...to be cont'd...

Good one. Please continue.
I agree on your part of American and Indian soaps. If available please do watch Australian series - Love Child. That's brilliant.
