"Pratigya!"
Someone's loud calling brought back Pratigyafrom her world.
"someone? It's chhoti maa!" coming back to real world, she replied," Haan, chhoti maa!"
"whats this beta, get ready fast, how long you are taking to get ready...it's getting late..we will have to rush, else we'll miss the bus"
"another10 minutes, chhoti maa..! Are adarsh and Arushi ready too?"
"they have already left for the school"
Pratigya and her step mom reached the bus stop and boarded the bus. They both were working in a garments company.

Pratigya...now she is living with her tep mom and her children. She had lost her mother soon afte her delivery. Her father remarked. She grew up at nanima's place with lots of pampering till she was 15. Was sent to a posh school and was given wat ever she asked for. Even when her father wanted to take her with him, she wasn't allowed.
In a large duplex house, her uncle lived in the fisrt floor and she stayed with her grandma in the ground floor. Lot of care was taken so that she didn't miss her mother. During her 10th exam holidays, her nanima passed away. She was sent to her father. As destiny would have it, there living was a struggle. Making both ends meet its,Ed was a Herculean task there.
Her life completely changed. She was admitted into a government school. The whole house was smaller than her bedroom. Her father looked after her well..so did her step mom. Her kids - Adarsh and Arushi treated her as her own sister. Somehow Pratigya couldn't really mingle. She did try hard but coming to terms with this life seemed very difficult for her.
After two years,during her 12th grade, her father also died of heart attack. The meager savi gs were also spent on his treatment. Pratigya refused to study further.her step mom said she would manage but she vehemently refused to go to college. She chose to work along ith her chhoti maa so that they could spend little more freely. Then, Adarsh and Arushi were in 9th and 8th classes respectively.
Four years have passed now. Life is stil the same. Pratigya tries hard to forget the past but the memories keep lingering in her mind. She keeps wondering o herself, as to how come her uncle n his family forget her.there had been a. Few times her uncle did come to see her, but she doesn't speak with him too. He asked her many times to contniue her studies. She refused. The scar that they have left her ran deep. Certain people, their words, their behavior, she just can't forget.

"nothing,chhoti maa!"
"I wanna tell you smth.but will tell you in the evning coz I myself donno much about it"
"about?"
"ur marriage, dear,"
"wast the need for my marriage now, plsss!"
"don't say that beta, you gonna turn 22 soon. Right time, right age now. U scored very good marks in your higher secondary boards but wats the use. I said I will. manage the expenses and asked you to study,but u refused. I know how you were brought up at ur grandma's home. Here you are struggling with us and now working. I feel so bad about all these bacha. So don't talk anything in your marriage thing. And think, what wil others talk about me, that I am making my step daughter earn n living out of it.
Please don't make me get such a name. Nothing is forced. Your uncle is coming down to our home to talk about this. Lets see. He invited us I many times for his daughter' marriage but you didn't go. Then cmae tehir son's marraige..you didn't go. There was death there..even then you were adamant. Is that all good? Don't think too much Pratigya, relax..free your mind."
"leave it,maa. Why do you worry. They didn't want me...that's why they left me. So why create reasons to go to them again?"
"you are feeling about staying with us?"
" nah, maa..pls don't get sentimental. I don't regret being here..with you all..it's just that how I came here..I couldn't get over it."
"ok..today evening your coming is coming. Don't be rude to him. Moreover they are coming with your marriage talks"
"mmm..."
They reached their workplace. Pratigya hasnt thought much about her married life. She was a little disturbed now. She prayed to God to give her strength to withstand whatever that may happen.
