Just some thoughts about this Barkat track, which seems to be going well, as of now. Yes, there too much Barkat-Barkat everywhere, but it's ok for a while. I loved how they gave us a great back-story to the name.
So the Abdullah family lost a daughter at the age of two to kidnapping. And suddenly after 18 years, the hunt begins again with the reappearance of the man who kidnapped her. They pick up the trail - and too soon - they find her! Strangely, the kidnapper was expecting them. What is up here?!
Barkat seems to be a nice girl - loving, forgiving and capable of concern for her foster father too. By and by, the Abdullahs learn that Barkat has had a very difficult life. She smokes beedis, she used to work sleazy parts in C Grade movies, made to earn a living... she has scars from the past. But Barkat seems to settle in her new life just right - she is not greedy for what they can give her, she is appreciative of all their efforts to please her, she is a bit confused. She is moved to tears by the Quran Khani, she is occasionally restless but essentially happy to have a whole big family doting on her. Here I must say Dimple is doing a good job of portraying all these shades. 👍🏼
The Abdullahs are proving surprisingly mature and accepting. They do not question her too closely for the fear of upsetting her, they are quick to allay her fears and misgivings, wanting only to make up for the lost years. Even the snobbish Surayya is not concerned about 'Usman Saab ki izzat' when it comes to her darling daughter.
If Barkat is fake, a plant by Mir Khan - how cruel and heartbreaking that would be!! Why haven't the Abdullahs questioned him closely? Are they keeping an eye on him, at least?
If she is a fake, then what are the ramifications? Surayya will be double devastated, Usman will be gutted, the brothers so angry and bereft. Where is the real Barkat then? Killed, sold, abandoned? Why is Mir so vicious? What will Aliya be able to do?
Will Bobby/Barkat have a change of heart? Is she a girl down-on-her-luck who agreed to play this part for Mir? Or is she an out and out villain who is out to get what she can?
For the story - what is the point of a Fake Barkat? When (and IF) the real one turns up down the line, will they go through the same hoopla again? That would only be repetitive, right? The producer Farhan Salaruddin seems to indicate that the master story of Beintehaa has been laid out in their minds. He also says they are laying down important links: "While narrating a story we had to go through the past and you may or may not like it today but a month later you will turn around and say this link was important for this chain."
So later on, is Barkat going to be a major influence on Zaya's love arc?
