| | | | Like the look? Anil Kapoor | Always game for reinvention, Anil Kapoor has got himself a new look for his upcoming film, Abbas-Mustan's Race.
Says the actor, "Anahita Shroff worked out the concept and look, while Aalim and Deepak executed it.
My hair has been dyed dark brown and has been given subtle blonde streaks. I am also sporting a French beard."
Kapoor goes on to add that he has always worked on a different look for his films.
In Woh Saat Din (his first film), he had his hair cut from a roadside barber and bought clothes from Chor Bazaar for his role as an aspiring singer hailing from a village. "My mother was in tears when she saw me.
She said I looked like a character actor! So to satisfy my mom, I compromised and wore out-of-character clothes for the songs. But Raj Kapoor taught me never to compromise. So for Mr India, I bought clothes from Chor Bazaar."
Disappointment
| | | Daddy's girl: Sonam Kapoor | The actor narrates an amusing incident that occurred when he was working for 1942 — A Love Story.
"I had to shave off my moustache and get a new hairstyle for the film.
So the media was called to cover the 'shave-off'. Vinod Chopra (director), my hair stylist and I kept waiting but no one came.
At that time, no one was interested in covering such 'events'.
So finally, we went ahead and did it alone. It was a real disappointment," says Anil, with mock distress.
Recently, on Koffee With Karan, his cousin Reema said he was the only person who cried at her wedding and that too because he was rehearsing for a role. Anil laughs and says, "That's not true.
The tears were genuine! My mom and Krishna aunty are inseparable. I am emotional about my family and friends.
Reema and I have grown up together and are more friends than cousins. We are extremely close. Dabboo says we are cousins through satellite!"
Worried
His daughter Sonam is now entering films with Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Saawariyan. Says Anil, "I am happy and worried.
Sanjay's film is the best launch pad, but for a father who has been part of the film industry for 25 years, I know it's a very tough profession to be in. She has to be tough, dedicated and patient."
Does Sonam cry on his shoulders? "No. She's a very strong girl." His home production, Gandhi, My Father, directed by Feroze Khan, is releasing in August.
Wasn't Anil planning to release it on the festival circuit? "No. Let me clarify once and for all, it's not a festival film but a mainstream family film.
Though Feroze and I have been getting invitations from many festivals, it was a mutual decision not to send it to any festival."
