The Four Days!

Chapter-15:

Thirukkural: (Chapter-88; Poem-875)

He who is alone and helpless while his foes are two should secure one of them as an agreeable help (to himself). -Thiruvalluvar.

The man with thick beard:

He was waiting for more than half an hour now. He had chosen the seat so that he could watch the entrance and he was watching it carefully not to even miss a dust. With a news paper in hand he could act as though he was relaxingly waiting for his friend. He was looking up from his paper each and every time a shadow crossed the entrance.

'What delays him this longer?'

'He should have been here by this?'

'If the airport procedures went well, he would be here at any moment now!' he consoled himself.

He knew it was raining on some places that day and did not think a mere rain could stop him.

He looked casually at the reception area.

The man on the other side of the desk looked once or twice at him as he attended the guests.

He folded the news paper, took his brief case in hand and walked to the receptionist.

"Excuse me!"

"Yes sir! How can I help you?"

"My friend informed me that he would be here in fifteen minutes. Can I get a cup of coffee, please?"

"Sure sir! Wait a minute please!"

He put the cup down on the teapoy and looked up at the entrance.

Still no trace of his friend!

He took the news paper yet again and thought,

'How did he let him wait here like a lone dog?'

'If only it was his place? If only he was the old Bags (Pronounce it as 'Bugs')?

'Oh! If only he was the old Bags then why should he wait here? Why should he do the messaging himself and bounce back in a sprint from place to place?

He could have used three or four guys for the job- to watch, to inform, to move, to decide, to act- while he would wait safe and sound for the result.

No! He can't go back to those golden days, ever! They were over once for all! 'He'- the bull dog, ended them cruelly.

'He had been one of the kings in the gang once!' he thought,' He and his old friend, now turned to havoc, were reigning the kingdom comfortably that was before this 'new friend' entered into the scene!'

He did not really think this man, the- yet- to -arrive friend of him, would be a menace, but soon he had to admit that he was nothing but an arch-enemy!

At last he saw a shadow that he wanted to see nearly for an hour, at the entrance with other two and the man was sifting the hall in a quick glance. He tried to sit casually as his friend entered in.

He could not resist but think, if only he had a gun with him, he would have shot him right away!

He checked himself and sat still. He had to force himself to stay relaxed after seeing him, even from a distance.

He was not ready to admit it as fear' still!

The friend approached the reception desk and inquired something quietly. Then the other two moved towards the stair case, to the room upstairs, he thought.

After a minute the man approached the sofa, adding difficulty to his already disturbed situation.

The man took the seat next to him on the other sofa.

They waited patiently for ten minutes and after an eternity the other two showed up again at the reception hall from upstairs. His friend left the sofa and him as well, alone.

He noticed the receptionist's eyes turning towards his direction once again from the phone he was talking to.

He waited for two more minutes, before he left the hotel once for all!

Arjun entered into the hotel and arranged for the searching. He went to the sofa to wait for us to finish the search and noticed a pair of eyes looking at him casually, before going back to the news paper.

Soon he got that the man was not reading it actually.

Arjun saw that the man near him was restlessly shaking his legs under the news paper which he knew it was an attempt to show others that he was all right! He shook the paper unnecessarily for more than three times in the past two minutes.

'He knows that I'm a police man, doesn't he?' He thought.

Arjun could not see his face except the eyes once or twice, as he shook the paper.

And once he saw his face when that fellow turned the page, but it was of no use, since the beard on his face was really doing the job well!

Arjun took a book from the teapoy as a couple with a child took the opposite seats.

Chottu came running in, "Sorry sir! I couldn't get him. I went up to the main road, but got no trace of him!" He was still panting.

He gave Arjun the video camera which he was using at the entrance.

Arjun played the video and got many figures leaving or entering the hotel. At last our man came out of the hotel in haste.

Arjun paused the video at that point and said, "I know him!" as he was eyeing the man keenly.

"You mean, you've seen him sir?" I asked.

"I mean, I know him! The eyes..."
