STORY OF SHRI RAM'S ELDER SISTER

AnimationAnimationAnimationIMGIMGIMG

The Vasistha Ramayana , which is one version of the Ramayana written by Valmiki , in its Adi parva refers to the ancestry of Dasaratha , his birth and how he became a king in the Solar dynasty . This reveals an unknown story about Dasaratha ' s youth , marriage and about his female child . Adbhuta Ramayana and Adhyatma Ramayana also refer to this subject .

When King Aja of Kosala died , his son Dasaratha was only eight months old . When he attained the age of 18 , he became the ruler of Kosala . He was a powerful king . The King of northern Kosala agreed to rule under his patronage . He had a beautiful daughter , Kausalya , whom Dasaratha wanted to marry . The King agreed ; but did not know that he and Dasaratha were closely related , coming from the same clan ... sagotra .

The demon King of Lanka , Ravana , wanted to marry Kausalya . He came to know from Brahma that his death would be at the hands of a divine son born to Dasaratha and Kausalya . Ravana became furious and decided to kill Kausalya even before her marriage . But Mandodari , his wife , pleaded with him not to commit stree hati ( the sin of killing a woman ) . She suggested that the marriage could be prevented by separating Kausalya from Dasaratha . Ravana agreed . He sent a few demons to kidnap Kausalya , put her in a box and float it in the river Sarayu so that she would not have a chance to survive and thereby preventing the marriage of Dasaratha with Kausalya .

One day Dasaratha was crossing the Sarayu river . He saw a box being thrown into the river by some persons from a hillock . Dasaratha jumped out of his boat and retrieved the box after fighting with the men . He was surprised to see Kausalya inside the box and thus saved her . Sage Narada who appeared there said it was the right time for the marriage of Dasaratha and Kausalya . Shortly the marriage was solemnised .

Soon Kausalya gave birth to a female child which unfortunately had a handicap in its leg . The child was named Shantai . The palace doctors could not remove the handicap . Sage Vashistha said the handicap was due to the marriage between close cousins -- of the same gotra . He suggested she would become normal if given in adoption to a divine couple ... ( ? ) . Dasaratha and Kausalya gave the child in adoption to Romapada , the king of Angadesa . Shantai ' s disability vanished with due care and treatment . Romapada performed the marriage of Shantai with Rishyasringa Maharishi .

It was after Shantai was given in adoption that Dasaratha got married to Sumitra and Kaikeyi with the hope of getting healthy children . As he had no issue even after that Dasaratha arranged for the Putrakameshti Yaga on the advice of sages . It was Rishyasringa who performed the Yaga and enabled Dasaratha to beget four sons .

The unknown story in the Ramayana highlights that Shantai was Sri Rama ' s elder sister . It also brings to light the ancient wisdom in the ill effects of consanguine marriages .

ADIDTYA HRUDAYAM

i have chosen only a few verses
to know more click the link below

Rashmi mantam samudyantam devaasura namaskritam

Poojayasva vivasvantam bhaaskaram bhuvaneshvaram

In the churn of the oceanic gas clouds bounded by a rope/girdle/Controller the atomic and sub-atomic particles submitted. Revered radiations (that radiates in seven ways) were initiated in the gas-clouds of the Universe

Sarva devaatmako hyesha tejasvee rashmi bhaavanah

Esha devaasura ganaan lokaan paati gabhastibhih

Sarva deva aatmako hyesha - In the depth of all the elements roars mightily

tejasvee rashmi bhaavana - the glow of this bond's impression/control/thought

Esha - Going after

Deva - elements

Asura - Hidden Sub-atomic particles with great force

Ganaan - molecules (sets of atoms) (Ganas mean a set also)

Lokaan - elements

pATi - split, broken, cut, cleave

gabhastibhi - forked (made openings)

pATi gabhastibhi - splitting/cutting/cleaving them with openings (sculpting these out of the gas clouds)

Esha deva asura gananaan - Going after elements, sub-atomic particles, molecules

Lokaan Paati gabhastibhi - Sculpting/cleaving and opening such things

In the depths of all the atomic particles roars the glowing controller's control/thought, going after elements, sub-atomic particles, molecules, sculpting them.

Sage Agastya introduces Aditya Hrdayam to Rama with the following words

Aaditya Hridayam punyam sarva shatru vinaashanam

Jayaavaham japennityam akshayyam paramam shivam

Aditya - Milky way galaxy

Hridayam - Hridayam indicates the core which makes something tick. It indicates the core essence of something. Hrdayam is also the place that thought is finally controlled, according to several places in Vedas. While thought is processed in brain, there are several indications in Vedas that indicate thought is controlled in Hrdayam.

Punyam - Good deeds

Sarva Shatru Vinaashanam - annihilation of enemies.

Aditya Hrdayam is about the essence of our Aditya, the Milky way Galaxy. Agastya says understanding the essence of our Milky way galaxy leads to good deeds (psychological perspective) and annihilation of enemies (scientific perspective).

Jayavaham - conferring victory

Jape nityam - constant recital

akSayam - never decays /always receiving benefits

paramam - all things

shivam - force that binds

Constant recital confers victory and ever provides benefits from the force that binds everything.

Sarva mangala maangalyam sarva paapa pranaashanam

Chintaa shoka prashamanam ayur vardhanamuttamam

Sarva mangala maangalyam - Auspicious bindings everywhere

Sarva pappa pranaashanam - destroying evil deeds everywhere

Chintaa shoka prashamanam - Heals/cures worries and sorrows

Ayur vardhanam uttamam - Therefore good for long life.

Providing auspicious bindings everywhere and destroying evil deeds everywhere, it heals the worries and sorrows. Hence constant recital is good for long life.

When we recite Aditya Hrdayam, in midst of tough and challenging situations, after understanding its psychological perspective of evolution of intelligence driven by a binding thought control force, our sorrows and worries are left to that force and we surrender our tasks to that force.

When we recite Aditya Hrdayaam, after understanding its scientific perspective, wherein we need to invoke all the twelve elements (which was applicable in a war in those days) or in a modern context all available scientific tools to combat our worries and sorrows, we think logically and perform.

We perform with the acceptance that the result is left to this binding thought control force that we are all subjected to, as even our might milky way galaxy is subjected to the same torments, when it comes to that force.

I had been to Bhadrachalam when I was undergoing a training at Hyderabad. It is a worth place to visit. There is also a dam built across Godavary enroute. Long queues would be there to see the main deity. Similarly one has to visit Thiruvaiyaru to see the temple constructed for saint Thygaraja where Pancharatna kritis are sung by all musicians on his birth star every year.
