'It's important to switch off'
Ashish Sharma may be playing a tough cop in the serial Rangrasiya, but he admits that it is a far cry from his off screen self. The actor says he has to make a conscious effort to lighten his mood just to cut off from the grumpiness of Rudra, his character on the show.
"I would go insane if I had to behave like Rudra all the time. For me it is important to switch off from the character when I'm not shooting. In between shots when I get a break, I get busy watching different kinds of movies, especially lighthearted ones, just to change my mood. Also, I don't take work home " that time is meant only for family and loved ones," he says.
Though the actor has a considerable female fan following, there are times when they can't walk up to him, thanks to Rudra's intimidating exterior. "My fans expect me to behave like the angry young man Rudra in real life too. I have noticed that a lot of people who spot me off screen are afraid to approach me for an autograph or a picture. It's only after I smile at them that they come and tell me that they like the show and start chatting comfortably."
There have been quite a few twists on the show recently, especially with the marriage promo that is currently on air. How does Ashish feel about these new twists? Does he relate to them? He says, "I feel that the show is popular because somewhere the audience relates to the characters and what is happening in their lives. People understand the mental agony that Rudra is going through. I feel all the characters are written very well and there is a valid reason for everything that happens in Rangrasiya."
Apart from acting, Ashish also runs a production house with his wife and actress Archana Taide, that produces Rajasthani shows. Speaking about juggling between the two jobs Ashish says, "Yes it gets hectic as Rangrasiya takes up most of my time. But Archana manages well. She takes times off from her work and visits the sets in Rajasthan to make sure everything is running smoothly. I hail from Rajasthan so I'm familiar with the language and what kind of shows people like to watch there. For now we haven't planned producing Hindi soaps but will do it in the future."
