Khushi followed Alagan, entering his house behind him.
"Alagan what happened? Why are you looking so tensed? And why do I feel that you were little rude there. Say what you want to say. Ebu is alone there. And Arnav ji is also not well...Ouch..." Khushi rubbed her nose as she collided with Alagan's back.
"Alagan, my nose" Khushi grumbled.
Alagan turned around to look at her.Catching hold of her hand he looked at her. Leaning closer, he blew air on her nose.
"Ab theek hain?" Alagan asked.
Khushi smiled at him and nodded her head. Seeing Alagan leaning so close to her, she can't help but compare him and Arnav ji. When Arnav ji is close to her, she feels little uncomfortable, her senses go on a vacation, thousand of butterflies erupt at a same time and heart starts racing with a high speed.
But with Alagan nothing of that sort happened. Why this difference? They both are man. Than why this contrast in feelings?
Khushi looked at Alagan confused.
"What happened Khushi?" Alagan shook her shoulder.
"Uhh?...Nothing...nothing. You say what you wanted to tell." Khushi told.
Alagan closed his eyes to compose himself.
"See Khushi, first I need to ask something." Alagan left her shoulder and turned around, facing his back to her.
"What is that Alagan?" Khushi asked.
"Khushi, why did you marry Arnav Singh Raizada?" Alagan asked.
Khushi stood there dumbfounded.
Alagan turned and looked at her.
"Khushi, I am asking, why did you marry him?" Alagan asked again.
Khushi lowered her eyes.
"What...what kind of question is this, Alagan? I...I wanted to marry him...and...and so I married him..." Khushi stammered. She was never good at lying.
Alagan looked at Khushi.
"Just because you wanted to? What does that mean? You don't love him and still you married him. And I am just asking a valid reason for your action!" Alagan asked, his tone little louder this time.
Khushi looked at Alagan, confused. Why is he so bothered about the reason?
"Buaji and Nani are friends, Alagan. And Nani asked my hand for the marriage and Buaji said yes..." Khushi's eyes roamed on the floor.
"Are you telling me that Buaji said yes without asking you?"
"Humne aisa kab kaha?"
"Then give me the reason why you told yes for the marriage. You are not in love with him, he is so much older than you, and if I am not wrong he was your rude Boss, who use to roar like a lion and you didn't liked him than what happened that you ended up marrying him?" Alagan asked, his eyes angry now.
Khushi lifted her eyes to look at Alagan, now irritated by his questionnaire.
"What do you want to know, Alagan? I wanted to marry him and I did. Why are you so bothered about the marriage?" Khushi asked frustrated.
"Why am I bothered? You married a man like Arnav Singh Raizada and above that you don't love him and when I ask for a reason you are asking me why am I bothered!!"
"What do you mean by a man like Arnav ji?!!" Khushi asked, offended.
"I mean a man like him, who is rude, ruthless, who has no manners, who wants to control everyone around him, who has no manner how to talk to his wife, who..."
"ENOUGH!!" Khushi blustered. "How can you say this things about Arnav ji?! He is not like that! You can't insult him like that! And what I do in my life and whom I marry is none of your concern. Who are you to ask me this?!" Khushi shouted in a fit of anger but regretted it as soon as she saw the broken look on Alagan's face.
Alagan turned around as tears instantly hit the back of his eyes. He fisted his palm. Yes, she is right. He has no right now! Now all the rights are reserved for Arnav Singh Raizada!
"Alagan...I...I...please look at me.." Khushi moved towards him, a sudden lump rouse in her throat. How can she say that to him?
"You can go Khushi. Now I have nothing to say and I have no rights to ask anything . You can go now.." Alagan said in a small voice, still not facing her.
Khushi kept her hand on his shoulder.
"Alagan, I didn't mean that...I am sorry...I am really sorry...please look at me..."
"It doent matter Khushi. It doesn't matter, you go your Arnav ji is waiting for you, you will be late because of my fake concern...Oh I forgot...I have no rights to be concerned about you...I am really sorry for bothering you Khushi...Go, your Arnav ji is waiting for you...whom am I to you?...go.."
Khushi moved in front and hugged him.
"Don't say that Alagan. You are my friend, my best friend who has always helped me, protected me, you have all rights to be concerned about me, you have all the rights to question me...I am sorry for my outburst...but Arnav ji is really nice, Alagan...he is nothing like the words you used to describe him...he has a heart, he cares about his family, yes he looks little rude but he is very nice...please believe me..." Khushi tried to make him understand, whispering softly against his chest.
Alagan closed his eyes. Why can't she understand? This Arnav Singh Raizada is not a match for her.
"Khushi, you need to understand this. He is not your type. You are so simple, innocent, can never even think of hurting anyone but he? He is anything but that. And above all you said that you don't love him."
"I didn't say no."
"But you didn't say yes either, did you?"
Khushi lifted her head from his chest to look at him.
"But I am trying to love him" Khushi said, her voice filled with hope. Hope of loving Arnav ji like a wife loves her husband.
"You can't try to love someone, Khushi. Love just happens. You need not try, just a moment is enough to fall in love" Alagan placed his palm on her cheek, making her understand as if she is a child.
Khushi looked in Alagan's eyes for few seconds before answering him.
"Than I will wait for that moment, Alagan."
Alagan's hand slipped away from her cheek, he stepped back.
"Alagan, I know that I don't love him but he is special to me. We are parents and soon will be husband and wife too." Khushi said with full belief, belief in her Devi Miaya. If She has tied her to Arnav ji than She must have planned something for her. She had always wished for a love filled married life and Devi Miaya had always granted her wish and she knows, sooner or later, Devi Maiya will grant her this wish too.
Alagan hated that look. A look that conveys that she can make everything work, she can search happiness even in the darkest tunnel. She can love him but what about him? Can that Arnav Singh Raizada love her the way she will love him? Can he reciprocate the same amount of love she will give him? No! He will not!
Nobody loves her more than him.
"Khushi, you can love him but what about him? Does he love you? Can he love you?" Alagan asked.
Khushi lifted her eyes to look at Alagan, her eyes filled with a mixture of hurt and distress. She doesn't know that. She has always seen the eagerness in him, an eagerness to be close to her, to touch her, to kiss her but is that love? Does he love her?
"Answer my question, Khushi." Alagan asked, relieved that he is getting on her.
"I...I don't know...and if he does not than I can make him love me...I..." Khushi stammered confused, not knowing if she is making any sense or not .
"Talk about yourself, Khushi. You can make your heart fall for him but you can't force someone to love you."
"I...don't want to listen anything...I am happy the way I am...I am going..." Khushi moved towards the exit but stopped as Alagan's next word fell on her ears.
"I forget to tell one more trait of your Arnav ji"
Khushi turned to look at Alagan.
Alagan flashed few newspapers in front of her.
"Your Arnav ji is a Casanova too.." moving towards Khushi, he kept the newspapers in her hand.
Khushi looked down at her hand. Lifting the newspaper with her trembling hands she read the various news on her husband.
"Every month he is spotted with different girls. I am sure he loves every girl the way he loves you."
Khushi looked at him, hurt. She flunked the paper in the room.
"He is not like that! You don't know him and that newspaper don't know him.But I know him, he is not like that!!" Khushi shouted, breathing heavily and ran from there.
"Khushi!!" Alagan called but she was already gone.
...
Khushi stopped in front of her house, getting her breath regular. Composing herself, she entered the room.
Arnav lifted his head to look at Khushi, who entered the room and the smile which she had while leaving was replace with something he can't make out. Was that hurt or confusion?
Khushi lifted her eyes to look at Arnav ji with Abeer in his arms. She walked towards him.
Arnav saw her coming towards him, he extended Abeer towards her, knowing Abeer wants to go to her but she moved passed and sat on the chair beside him. He looked at her confused.
"Khushi?" Arnav called.
But Khushi was in a daze. Leaning close to Arnav ji, she coiled her hands around his arms and kept her head on his shoulder.
"Khushi what happened?" Arnav asked, worry crossing his face.
Khushi tilted her head little to look at him, her innocent orbs moving on his face.
"I...I...Nothing, Arnav ji..." Khushi again kept her head on his shoulder.
"Bu...bu..." Ebu kept his face close to her Amma's.
Khushi looked at her son and a smile crept on her face.
"No bu bu...say Amma..." Resting her palm on his cheek, she kissed him.
"Bu bu bu bu bu..."
Khushi giggled, forgetting everything.
Buaji entered the hall to see the three seated there. A smile bloomed on her face as she saw the display in front of her. Khushi and Abeer had occupied both Arnav's shoulder and giggling at eachother. Her gaze moved to Arnav, who was looking down at them and a barely noticeable smile playing on his lips. Her heart filled with relief, relief of seeing her niece happy. What else she want? She always wanted Khushi to be happy and if Khushi is happy with Arnav than she is more than happy. And if Arnav is anything to go by the hot gossips of the newspaper than, still she knows Khushi can change him, and mold him to be her perfect partner. And if that man will ever try to hurt her child than she is always there to teach him a lesson.
"Khushi, jalebis.." Buaji came and kept the plate of jalebis in front of her.
Khushi squealed happily earning a weird look from her son and lapped forward to take the plate.
"Thank you so much Buaji!" Khushi blew a flying kiss towards her Buaji. "But Buaji, Arnav ji is diabetic, he can't have this jalebis." Khushi dropped the picked jalebi in the plate.
"I know Khushi, but I don't know what he likes... but I will bring the coffee" Buaji again turned towards the kitchen.
"Without sugar, Buaji!" Khushi shouted.
"Ok!!" Buaji acknowledged.
"Khushi, you should have not bothered her. I was just fine."
"Arnav ji, aap Buaji ke ghar se aise hi chale jayenge toh unhe aacha nahi lagega." Khushi smiled and started munching her jalebis.
Khushi looked at Abeer who was looking back at her. Smiling, she took him from Arnav ji.
"Aapko bhi bhook lagi hain?" Khushi took a tiny piece of jalebi and put in his mouth, which he started sucking.
"Thank God that Abeer isn't diabetic like you" Khushi chattered while feeding Abeer.
Arnav looked at Khushi, lost in her contagious smile. Smiling, he shook his head. Her love for Abeer is so pure and great that she forgets that they are not his biological parents.
"My baby.." Khushi kissed his rosy lips. " Now no more, it will upset your stomach."
"Here's your coffee, Arnav" Buaji extended the tray towards him.
Acknowledging her with a nod, he took the coffee mug.
"Buaji, now we should go.." Khushi said after a while.
Buaji nodded at her.
"Theek hai, take care of yourself and your family" Buaji hugged her as they got up.
"Ebu, say bye to Nani" Khushi took his tiny hand and waved at her Buaji.
Smiling, Buaji waved back.
"Bye.."
With that they exited Buaji's house.
Khushi looked towards Alagan's house but it was closed. Khushi started walking towards the car, not knowing what she was feeling for him. Was she angry or upset with him? She left it at that. He has always been like that. He takes some time to accept people but he eventually does.
Satisfied with her thought, she sat inside the car and they drove back to RM.
...
It was late night as Khushi saw Arnav ji sleeping on his side and she patted Abeer to sleep. As her baby, who keeps her occupied and distracts her from everything, slept, her mind drifted to the newspaper Alagan had shown her. Khushi closed her eyes shut. NO! Arnav ji is not like that!
She got up from the bed. Tucking Abeer between pillows, she moved towards the poolside.
Arnav's fist clenched and unclenched, missing the usual warmth. He groggily opened his eyes and looked over Khushi's side to see the space empty. He looked around in the room but was unable to find her. Getting up from the bed, he was about to walk towards the door when his gaze landed in poolside. Moving towards poolside he entered the poolside to see Khushi siting under the stairs in the corner, her knees drawn to her chest and face between her knees and chest.
Arnav moved towards her, bending little to go under the stairs , he sat beside her.
"Khushi?" Arnav kept his hand on her shoulder. " What are you doing here?" Arnav asked confused.
Khushi lifted her face from her knees, sniffing!
Arnav looked at the tear drenched cheeks of Khushi and his hand immediately roused to rest on her cheek.
"Khushi! What happened?!" Arnav asked, alarmed, looking at her sobbing.
Khushi threw her in his arms.
Arnav's back hit the wall due to the sudden push. He wrapped his arms around her and stretched his legs to steady both of them. Khushi's upper half body lay on Arnav as she tightened her hold on his shoulder.
Arnav titled his head down to see her sobbing on his chest. He kept his hand on her cheek and lifted her face to look at him.
"Khushi, why are you crying? Tell me.." Arnav asked worried.
Khushi lifted her damp eyelids to look at Arnav ji.
"Arnav ji...you...you..." her sobbing making it difficult to form a sentence.
"Tell me Khushi, what happened?"
"Arnav ji...are you...are you...are you cheating on me?" Khushi sobbed.
"What?!!" Arnav looked at her shocked!
"I read the newspapers...even...even today's newspaper had the news...they...they told...that...that you went out with...that...that girl...who...who was wearing so weird clothes...I ..." Khushi cried.
Arnav lifted her chin to look at him, now angry!
"And you think I am cheating on you? It's all fake news, Khushi! Those news are made up, sometimes by the models I work with and sometimes by the agencies themselves, do you get me?" Arnav asked, his tone little higher.
"But how can they...how can they write so much lie?...how..."
"Than what do you think? That I am cheating on you?! That I am a lair?! Tell me Khushi?!!" he shook her by her shoulder.
Khushi looked at him scared. She tried to move back but Arnav held her there.
"Answer me! Do you think that I am bloody cheater, who leaves his family and go out to carry on with his swindler life?! Does the words written in the newspaper holds more importance to you than my words?!" Arnav's ragging eyes looked in her scared one.
Khushi shook her head and hugged him again, hiding her face in his chest.
"I am sorry...but they...I didn't believed Alagan...sacchi, Arnav ji...but I read other newspapers...and every ...every newspaper has...has printed that...that...I am sorry..." Khushi sobbed.
Arnav gathered her in his arms and rested his chin on her head.
"Khushi I swear on you, after my college I have never been in any relationship or dated anyone. Are you listening?" Arnav looked down at her.
Khushi nodded her head, her sobbing subsiding.
"All this news are fake. If you don't believe me than I can give every hour detail of my life after I started A.R. , my secretary has it all. Do you want it?" Arnav again looked at her.
Khushi shook her head.
"No...I don't want...I believe you..." Khushi mumbled against his chest.
Arnav stood on his knees and carefully dragged Khushi with him, standing on his feet, he picked her up.
Khushi rested her head on his shoulder and curled her hands around his neck, half asleep.
"But you give me after our marriage list. I will show it to Alagan. I will show him that you are a nice man, who take care of his family, who loves his family...who loves his son...who loves...do you love me, Arnav ji?"
Arnav halted in his path, his head jerked to his left to look at Khushi.
"Khushi?" he called but Khushi snuggled more in his arms. She was asleep.
Moving towards the bed, he laid her there. Covering her with the blanket, he sat beside her. He stared at her. Who has put all that rubbish in her head? And then he remembered the name she had taken. Alagan! Arnav's palm fisted in a ball. What does that man wants? Why is he putting all that rubbish in Khushi's head?
He needs to find out! Or better, he will talk with him!
