Ignorance is bliss!

Talent hunts which began as an exceptional concept in television content in India have now occupied a consistent space on prime time. The concept has achieved such immense response from viewers that some of them are entering their third edition this year including 'Sa Re Ga Ma Pa - Challenge 2007' (Zee), 'Indian Idol 3' (Sony) and 'Star Voice of India - Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Dha Ni Sa' (Star Plus).
So who will be watching what? Interestingly, 'Sa Re Ga Ma Pa - Challenge 2007' and 'Indian Idol 3' will launch on the same day and are slotted back to back with the latter starting the race. Aren't the channels killing each other's viewing strength knowing that their shows are hugely popular and the audience would be in a dilemma?
Ashish Kaul, senior vice-president, Zee Enterprises Ltd. says, "The format of 'Indian Idol' and 'Sa Re Ga Ma Pa' is different. Hence, the audiences for the shows are also
different. 'Indian Idol' is about building personalities out of people who have an adequate talent of singing. On the other hand, 'Sa Re Ga Ma Pa' offers a platform to bring out the best quality playback singers. I don't think the audience will be in a dilemma over which show to watch."
Sony's senior creative director Sandiip Sikcand agrees that the viewers will not be divided and adds, "People will have a variety of music shows; they could watch both.
Moreover, brand 'Indian Idol' is strong enough to stand the test."
