He is also a good cricketer and plays for Mumbai Heroes team in the Celebrity Cricket league match.

He spoke to us about how he started acting and future plans"

Tell us when did you decide to do acting?

Before choosing acting as a profession, I tried my luck in various jobs, but I had decided quiet early in my life what I have not to do. Still acting was my last option. Before acting, I tried my hands in editing while being in Delhi. Since I was very much interested in photography, I also thought of joining FTI. But when I came to know that only a science graduate can join FTI, which I was not, I dropped the idea.

When I came to Mumbai, only then I realised that even while assisting a director you can become a cameraman. But, yes acting was definitely my original calling. Also since acting was in my blood (his father was also a known artist) I decided to go for acting.

Tell us about your early days and struggle in Mumbai?

I came to Mumbai at the age of 22, before that I had done some theatres in Delhi. My first role in theatre was a very short one but I played it with perfection and later on I thought that the only thing I can do is acting.

Since my brother-in-law and sister had started a production company, I did not struggle much in early days. First I had started my career as costume coordinator, since I'm someone who doesn't have a very good sense of dressing. I was just filling in and passing my days. After spending 8-10 days I got a small role to do in a 3-4 minutes scene. After that I became an assistant director to Tigmanshu Dhulia. In fact I was shifted to direction just after one schedule, because I could write and understood filmmaking. So I did well there.

Do you enjoy acting?

It depends. When things are going good, everything looks good.

You look very natural while acting. Is it because you know about action, direction and writing?

Yes, to a great extent it's true. My cameraman never ever had to say whether I should stand while shooting. But, it's equally true that once you start acting you can't focus on such things, you have to concentrate on your character. The other thing is, I never had any formal training in acting and My USP is to be natural while acting. You can say that naturality is my in-built characteristic.

You are active in cricket also how you manage both ends?

Basically I am a cricketer who has to act to run his house that's how I will put it. I'm immensely passionate about this game. So I'm enjoying this while I still can.

What are you future plans?

I want to act in more films; I am shooting for two films in 2014. Apart from that, I am doing another show, but it's too early to talk about it. At the same time I'm ready to do anything from acting, direction and writing.
