Haan..!' Said by Ganga ... to Ratan- a defining moment followed by a deafening silence ...which reverberated in the jail surroundings !! Decision has been taken by a mother !!

Here an arrogant criminal member of the patriarchical society is asking for his heir, not a father asking for his son!...any righteous person could have easily given his bone marrow unconditionally!

This haan' from Ganga for handing over her son to a butcher father ... sacrificing her toddler son is only to save his life! Just to see him alive! What an irony of Fate!

Here Ratan is not asking for Mannu as a responsible father, ...not with love and attachment and not with any tender feelings for him ...but ...but with a purpose ...a purpose of having a son as his heir...to carry on his legacy ... an age old blind belief...still being carried into the present day modern society'... coupled with a revengeful intention to prove his authority over her, for revolting against his authority over her. He has no tender feelings towards his kids ...that is very much clear when he rejected Padma and her daughter. Why this disparity ?? What is the meaning of a woman's life in a biased society ??

What is this blindly practiced patriarchy...Does it not sound meaningless ?

Why ...why a father's role is so important in a child's life ?... which is only a peripheral involvement [ rightly and beautifully described by a IF member as a pleasure trip'..This phrase speaks volumes ... defining the whole meaning of a passive nature of a man ..A father !! ]

In the case of a father like Ratan, only with his few minutes of involvement in bringing a child into this world ...how can the society hand over all the rights...legally , socially and traditionally, and declare him as a sole authority ...a care taker better than a mother ! How??

What about the role played by a mother who is very much involved physically and emotionally since conception till the end [her end !! ] ..conceiving, giving birth, breast- feeding, nurturing, care taking, grooming, educating the do's and don'ts in life, in essence making a man of a child, with a whole hearted involvement ? But here, this heir' theory makes her a mere spectator ...A mute witness !.. Is it not atrocious ?

Raped by Ratan ... Ganga suffered every night onslaught, was used by his family as a free servant maid ..as a slave ...now, even after escaping from their clutches and a certain eventual death, fate has brought her back to the very same rogue' family with begging hands... that is the irony of fate'

Since centuries my question has been ...as a woman, as a wife, as a mother...called with different names , ...why this second grade treatment to a woman in every event at every stage of her life ?Why ...Why ...being a life giver ..why should she live like a life less log!

Very nicely written Seetha It is indeed such a harsh twist of fate for poor Ganga 😭 . Ratan and his parents only want to satisfy their ego to have the male heir in their family otherwise least bothered they are about their blood They have completely forgot about Padma's daughter
When Ganga said haan to Ratan This all moment was just too heart wrenching

Seetha i have not seen the episode but reading your post i experienced goose bumps. What a description of a woman's plight. Ganga's suffering is unending. Why she is shown as a sufferer all the time . Why she is deprived of a normal and stable life. Her unending woes and sobs is so depressing . Can't bear the distress of this character.

Mind sets have to be changed !

We are still primitive far as the mindset is concerned. The feudalistic mentality . Changing the mindset of the older generation is impossible until and unless they are willing to accept the change. Life moves on Seetha .Most of us are suffering . The gender inequality is still prevalent. Sincerly wish better living enviornment for woman.

@Seetha, I am quoting a part of your post here:

"What about the role played by a mother who is very much involved physically and emotionally since conception till the end [her end !! ] ..conceiving, giving birth, breast- feeding, nurturing, care taking, grooming, educating the do's and don'ts in life, in essence making a man of a child, with a whole hearted involvement ? Herein lies the solution. A woman brings a child in this world, she feeds, educates in fact does everything for the child. The day she starts imparting real values, the day each and every woman start teaching her son to respect women - society will change. Society is like this with tacit support from women themselves. Unless we accept this hard fact and take remedial action - nothing will change.

As a woman in India, I find that the society is changing a lot in terms of acceptance of the many roles of women as professionals, as bread-earners in families and as independent thinking individuals.

The traditional Indian woman has evolved to prove herself equal in many professions as well as proved better suited than men in others.

The situation for the changing role of women is improving fast!On the other hand, female foeticide, dowry deaths and domestic abuse, marital rape , provide a macabre background of primitive barbarism.

In the typical Indian Society, you find that there are still expectations and assumptions about women that are not so much relevant to their current status, but a clear hangover from our supressive past. This may be more obvious with traditional women or women in rural societies, but it is extremely prevalent in urban ones as well !

@ S Puja... Society is like this with tacit support from women themselves. Unless we accept this hard fact and take remedial action - nothing will change.
A mother can give her child good culture, customs , inculcate human values and teach social behaviour,to the extent of her own upbringing and education ...but at various stages of a child growing into a man, his interaction with the society, which at present is definitely not woman-friendly as desirable, influences his ultimate behaviour and some times deviates him from being a good human being and turns him into an assertive chauvinist !
