Bling king: Bappi Lahiri
Be it Samantha Fox or Boy George in the early '90s, Music director Bappi Lahiri has been known to bring international music stars to India.

This time, he's getting the Jackson Five to India to sing for one of his forthcoming films.

Says Bappi, "This will be the first time that the Jackson Five, comprising Jermaine, George, Randy and Janet (barring Michael), will be coming down to India and singing for one of my forthcoming films.

I can't reveal details about that film right now; all I can say is that I will be composing the music and the contract has been signed. They will be coming down in July."

Indiyeah!

So how did he meet the Jacksons? "I had gone to Los Angeles to release my album Kavita, which is a collaboration with classical singer Rajashree Choudhury.

It's meditation music set to Choudhury's recital of Rabindranath Tagore's poetry. Jermaine and Randy had come to release the album and they told me they love India and want to sing for an Indian film," says Lahiri.

Currently, Bappi is composing music for Ram Gopal Varma's Sholay. "I have composed a version of Yeh dosti, and there will also be two more songs.

Besides this, there is the film, where I have sung a song with Adnan Sami, Pehlaj Nihalani's Khusbhoo and Kahi Toh Hai Aas Paas."

Bling thing

As usual, Bappi was recently seen at an event wearing loads of jewellery. "I find jewellery very lucky, that's why I wear so much," reveals Bappi.

"It's more superstition than decoration. At the Sa Re Ga Ma event last week, I was wearing my lucky diamond pendant shaped like a flower.

I was also wearing a pendant made of yellow sapphire, Ganpati baba's pendant made of gold and platinum, my Guruji Dadaji Sri Sri Ram Thakur's locket, a pendant of Balaji and a gold chain and pendant with B (Bappi) given by my wife Chitra.

I can't do without these things and have to wear it to all events." Oh well. Now you know!
