The tongue-in-cheek Bewakoofiyaan' review

Express LOL | New Delhi | March 15, 2014 10:42 am

Bewakoofiyaan offers its viewers to become a part of the movie experience: if you watch the film expecting a Queen or a Hasee Toh Phasee, you are pretty much doing what the title says. Though the lead pair does a decent job, they are burdened with a tired script and a cliched concept.

As usual, our reporter interviewed celeb watchers of the film to figure out what they thought of Bewakoofiyan. In keeping with the mood of the season, his first three interviewees were the three top political figures in India today.

Before he could tell Arvind that Mango is not exactly an Aam Aadmi brand, he was left alone. After the AAP supremo, it was the turn of Narendra Modi.

Finally, Rahul Gandhi turned up, and our reporter prepared himself for prepared answers.

After the political heavyweights of the present, it was the turn of a literal political heavyweight from millenia ago.

Our reporter left in confusion, telling himself that Ra.One might actually have been a better viewing choice.

Whatever the film is I hope its atleast having better comedy than HTP and better romance than it also. This is perhaps a very simple film in a gandeur way. All could have been nice if bikini news was not spread so much,

Bewakoofiyaan is the story of a guy and a girl who are very much in love and want to get married. But, the conversion of relationship to marriage is never that easy in filmy life. The isle Sonam's character Mayera so desperately wants to walk down, has a lot of thorns. Namely - her father (Rishi Kapoor) and the fact that her boyfriend just lost his job. So, the BF (Ayushmann) has to lie his way into Rishi Kapoor's good books.

When YRF first dropped the trailer of Bewakoofiyaan, we made the assumption that it's going to be a disappointing romantic comedy. We were right. Kind of.

Pros And Cons Of Watching Bewakoofiyaan

Here are all the pros and cons of Ayushmann and Sonam's Bewakoofiyaan!

Con - Sonam ki awaaz

Pros And Cons Of Watching Bewakoofiyaan

Sonam Kapoor can act if she tries. If only she had tried here. She basically plays Aisha with a brain. That's an assumption we made on the following fact - she works for a bank where she makes over 70K a month and she wears specs! Her chirpiness is more irritating than it is endearing. Guys can take consolation in the fact that she looks hot.

Pro - Rishi Kapoor ka andaaz

Pros And Cons Of Watching Bewakoofiyaan

Rishi Kapoor >> everything else this film has to offer. He's the sole reason why this film went from being bad to mediocre. His comic timing is impeccable but, to tell you truth, watching him play video games and going "dhish dhish dhish" was so entertaining! Rishi Kapoor should certainly do more comedies!

Con - Ayushmann, why are you so repetitive?

Pros And Cons Of Watching Bewakoofiyaan

Ayushmann is repetitive. Not just in the type of roles he's picking. There's a line in the film - "Hot lag rahi hai, kha jaaon tujhko". And he repeats this line so often ki by God, we were wishing koi aake use kha jaye!

Pro - Chemistry

Pros And Cons Of Watching Bewakoofiyaan

We're not talking about the bikini shikini and kissing shissing between Sonam-Ayushmann. We're talking about the hilarious exchanges between Ayushmann and Rishi Kapoor. "Duffer, khoteya and bewakoof" were just a few insults Rishi Kapoor threw his way. This is what made the first of the film light and fun. The drama filled second half just killed all the fun we had in the beginning of the movie!

Con - Khamakhaan ke songs

Pros And Cons Of Watching Bewakoofiyaan

The songs were terrible. What's worse is that Raghu Dixit was the music director behind them! Khamakhaan was probably the only song that is border line ok.

Pro - Gurgaon!

Pros And Cons Of Watching Bewakoofiyaan

The film is set in the Millennium city, Gurgaon! This change of scenery itself is a breath of fresh air. More filmmakers should step out of their studios in Mumbai and give this city a chance.

So keeping all the positives and negatives in mind, in our humble opinion, Bewakoofiyaan is an ok-ok film. Watch it if you're getting really bored this weekend. Rishi Kapoor will give you your tickets worth!
