Member topic: What do you do on weekends?
Are you interested to watch War 2 in cinemas?10 days to go!
After a long, okay very very long hiatus I am finally back with half an update. The other half will be posted hopefully by tomorrow. I dedicate this part to Zahra (iluvarmaanmalik), my younger sister who kept on nagging me to update this story. I also want to thank all my readers, especially Jimson, Neetaname and a few others (Sorry I am lazy, can't name everyone) for believing in me and not giving up on this story even after I almost did. I won't promise but will at least try to post an update every three days.
Part 24 a
It had been five minutes since Hammad was observing Asad. The later had not looked anywhere other than the far right corner of the lawn during this whole time. Asad was sitting on a bench in the lawn ostensibly reading a book while he was busy giving helpless lover-boy looks to Zoya. Zoya, oblivious to her audience was busy playing with Humza. Hammad walked over to the bench and spoke.
H: "I didn't know you have started reading your books upside down."
Asad startled by this sudden intrusion turned his book only to realize that he had turned it upside down at Hammad's comment. He closed the book and placed it on his side while Hammad sat down next to him.
H: "Just kidding! I know you were busy reading something else."
A: "What?"
H: "Why don't you just tell her?"
A: "What do you think she'll say?"
H: "Well, for starters, she'll call off your friendship and cut off all ties with you and then..."
A: "Then why are you telling me to tell her?"
H: "Let me finish yaar. As I was saying, then she'll realize that she has feelings for you too which the duffer still hasn't come to terms with. And then tada! She'll be back to her normal self who in my opinion is quite abnormal itself."
A: "You are not making any sense."
H: "What I am saying is she is twisted and a little dumb."
A: "She is not dumb."
H: "Matters of the heart my friend. That is where she is a little slow. She still thinks that the ring you gave her was a symbol of your friendship. I, on the other hand, have known since then."
A: "Well you are too fast then. Even I didn't know at the time. By the way you are too unusual for a brother and weird too."
H: "Why, because I am talking about my sister's love life? I may be unusual but I am not a hypocrite. Love happens, it did for me too. I want her to be happy and as far away as possible from that Anwar. She won't ever realize till you give her a little push and you need to do that fast before it's too late."
A: "Too late?"
H: "I hope I can trust you with this. Haseena Aunty has a very scheming mind. She'll definitely do everything in her capacity to get hold of Baba's property. I just want to make sure that she doesn't make Zoya a pawn in her schemes."
A: "What is it with Anwar anyway? Why would uncle even consider him for Zoya?"
H: "You are underestimating him man. At first Baba was against the match considering the kind of guy he used to be but he was never vocal about it. He claims to have suddenly turned over a new leaf. Nowadays he has gone to USA for I have no idea what kind of diploma. He is giving it all to get into Baba's good books. In a nutshell, if he manages to get Baba's vote, she might end up getting married to that leech."
A: "But she doesn't like him."
H: "That is Zoya for you! She'd do anything Baba asks her to without saying anything. I guess Ammi is calling us. Let's go."
"We can make her jealous in some way and make her realize her feelings for Bhai."
Najma suggested as she made plans with Hammad for playing cupid in their respective sibling's love life.
Hammad made a face and replied.
"What will we make her jealous with? Plus this idea of yours has very bright chances of backfiring. Think of something else."
N: "Well we can pressurize him to sing a song for her."
H: "It'll take a lot of effort to make him agree and still the plan is not foolproof. She may not get the message loud and clear."
N: "Or we can lock them in a room so that it's just the two of them. You know such a situation may help matters."
H: "Now there can't be a more crappy idea."
N: "Are you sitting here to reject and criticize my ideas. Think of something yourself."
H: "Think of some better idea. You are the one who watches loads of Bollywood movies."
N: "Idea! We can go for an out of town trip and leave both of them alone on the road and..." Najma narrated her masterplan to him and then exclaimed. "Eee! I can't think of a more romantic idea."
H: "Well we can work upon that idea. So where should we go?"
N: "Wherever we go it should be just the four of us. Otherwise my plan won't work."
"Chaahe koi mujhe jangli kahay...YAHOOO
Kehne do g kehta rahay YAHOO!
Hum pyar ke toofanon main palay hain hum kya Karen!"
Hammad, Najma and Zoya sang loudly while Asad tried to shield his ears, unsuccessful in doing so as he was driving.
N: "This is going to be so much fun."
Z: "I still think we should have gone to Goa. It would have been much better destination for a no parental supervision trip."
"But that wouldn't have served the purpose." Hammad thought to himself.
N: "Come on Zoe! I love mountains plus the place is really beautiful. When Hammad showed me the pics of his last trip to this really beautiful place with his friends, I so wanted to just fly to Sundar-Nagar. You've already been to somewhat similar place when you guys went for your medical camp. I am hungry."
At the mention of their medical camp a small smile crept on Zoya's lips and all the memories came flooding back especially the time when they had gone to convince the villagers to come to the camp.
H: "Hey Asad stop the car. This is the place I told you guys about. That Baba G hotel is around here somewhere but we will have to walk up there. You can't miss that guy's cuisine."
N: "How far is it?"
H: "About five kilometers."
N: "I can't walk that much. Zoe and I'll stay here."
Z: "Yah! You both go. We'll stay."
H: "Come on Asad."
Z: "It will take them some time to come back. Let's look around. I am getting bored."
N: "Ok but let's just stay near the car. This place seems a little... you know..."
Z: "Oh come on! Get out of the car. Hey look at that old lady. Poor soul, she looks really distressed. Let's go see if we can help her out."
By the time Najma had gotten out of the car Zoya was already halfway to the old lady. On reaching her Zoya greeted her and then bent towards her.
Z: "Aunty my name is Zoya and this is my friend Najma. Can we help you?"
The old lady looked at her for some time with her kind face and replied in a resigned tone.
"My husband needs his medicines and my son is out of town so I need to go up to the town to buy them. My back hurts and I can't walk all the way up. You girls are alone?"
N: "No our brothers are with us. If you tell us about the medicines we can get them for you. How far is the town from here?"
The old lady's face lit up on the prospect of getting help.
"Bless you kids. It's about an hour's walk for me, would take lesser for you. I can guide you the way. This is the list of the medicines and here is the money."
Z: "Please just give us the list. Does he need them right away or can he wait a few hours? It may take us some time."
O: "He has sent you people as angels in disguise for me. May God bless you. No there is no emergency. It's just that my son will come back after about a week and we can't wait that long."
Z: "Is your house nearby?"
O: "Yes that small hut by the stream."
Z: "It looks so lovely. Come we will help you to your house."
O: "I came here with my husband fifty years ago. Both of us loved mountains. We still do. That is why we don't move to the city with our sons. The hustle and bustle and the noise just don't let you enjoy the peace we do here. When we were young we built this hut ourselves."
Z: "Wow. This is so awesome."
O: "Come inside. Have tea with us. Then you may leave."
Z: "We would have loved to but we need to go back. We will come back by nightfall."
O: "Thank you darling."
They hurried back to their car to see Hammad and Asad at a distance. Once back in the car, Zoya told them about the old lady while having their lunch. Later, they drove to their destination after buying the medicines from the town nearby.
Zoya looked out of the window and exclaimed.
"Sundar-Nagar, true to its name is really beautiful. I am already falling in love with this place."
H: "Wait till we get where we are going. You'll love this place even more. What we are going to do is on the top of your bucket-list."
Z: "OMG! Don't tell me we are going skydiving."
H: "Yeah sort of. We can't go for skydiving as you have no experience but yes tandem-jump it will be."
Z: "Anything would do! I am already so excited. Ammi Baba would never allow me to do anything so... so awesome."
N: "What is tandem-jump?"
Z: "It's like skydiving but you don't do it alone. You are attached to a trained instructor with a harness who handles the technicalities and you just enjoy the fall. Hammad received training for sky-diving much to Baba's chagrin. He doesn't approve you see."
N: "Sounds like fun but too dangerous. I wouldn't want to try it."
H: "You should. In fact in my opinion everyone should experience it at least once in life."
Z: "Asad what do you think?"
A: "Well I have already done it. I happen to be a trained sky-diver."
Z: "Wow! You never told me."
H: "In fact it was his idea to go sky-diving. He can be your instructor as he is a member of the club we are going to."
Their host was a tall burly man who gave them the initial instructions and handed them the liability forms. Najma looked at the form and said.
"You guys can't be serious. You really want to do this. You can get hurt or even die and the form says no one can even sue the club for this."
H: "Oh come on Tamater! Don't be a spoil-sport."
N: "Go ahead but I won't do it... Please don't do it all of you. Let's go somewhere else."
A: "Tamater this is going to be so much fun and I have paid a fortune for this."
Z: "We can't back out now after coming this far."
N: "Okhay go ahead. I won't stop you but don't push me accompany you."
Hammad and Zoya tried to reason with her but Asad stopped them.
A: "Guys if she doesn't want to have a go, let her be. Let's go."
They signed their forms and handed them over. After receiving instructions, taking the required equipment and changing into the gear, the three of them made their way to the plane with other people who had come for the same. Once they were inside the plane, Zoya started to feel scared. Back on the ground her excitement had taken over every other thought from her mind but now as she was actually about to jump, the reality stuck her hard. Looking at her pale face Asad spoke.
"Trust me. This is going to be one of the best experiences in your life. I have done it many times but it's a whole new experience every single time. There is nothing to be scared of."
She suddenly felt at ease as he took hold of her hand and said.
"Besides I am going to be there, actually, at your back."
Zoya was sitting at an angle to the hatch door from where she could look down towards the ground.
"Allah Miyan! We are going to jump out of this thing in just a few minutes."
Zoya felt her heartbeat quicken when she saw Hammad disappear from the door as he jumped down. Once it was their turn, they put their goggles on and crawled their way to the door. Asad hatched Zoya onto the harness and told her to sit with her feet dangling out of the plane.
Z: "No! I'll fall down."
A: "Don't worry. You won't. The wind will blow your legs to the side. Otherwise you'll be fine."
She did as he had told her. Feeling excited and scared at the same time, she anticipated her first sky-dive.
A: "Cross your arms across your chest and remember free-fall position when I push your shoulders."
Z: "Oh...Ohkay!"
As they fell Zoya yelled at the top of her lungs.
"THIS IS SO DAMN AWESOME. I AM ON THE TOP OF THE WORLD. AHHH"
When they were about 5000 feet from the earth, Asad pulled the rip cord to open the parachute. They felt a gentle tug of the harness as they slowed down and started to descend towards the ground slowly.
A: "So, how was it?"
Z: "It was incredible. I was falling at 120 mph, hurtling towards the earth and my possible destruction. The wind whipped past me with incredible ferocity. The rush was absolutely exhilarating. My heart rate skyrocketed from the intense experience, but I was not afraid. I was ecstatic. I felt a fullness of life that I had never experienced before. It was... it was simply the best time of my life."
A: "Told you. Umm Zoya I wanted to tell you something."
Z: "Go ahead."
A: "Actually I... err... I think... I don't think... I mean..."
Z: "What is it? Come on. Ah OH MY GOD! The view Asad! Just look down. Are we alive? Or we died and now we are in Jannat."
A: "Well I want to be there with you."
Z: "The most obvious way we can be together even after we are dead would be if we get married."
A: "Then let's do it."
Z: "Ha ha! Done! If you don't find anyone, I'll."
A: "Why do I..."
Z: "That's Hammad down there. HAMMAD LOOK UP! He is not listening. So what were you saying?"
A: "What? Err... nothing."
Z: "Oh yah we were talking about marriage. Do you have a girlfriend?"
A: "No."
Z: "Oh come on! I don't believe you."
A: "Get ready. We are about to land."
Z: "Don't try to evade. Tell me na. You never had anyone in your life."
A: "No."
Z: "No girl."
A: "No."
Z: "Oh okay so how many boys?"
A: "Shut up you! To shut you up I do love someone and she is a GIRL."
Z: "OMG really? And you think that would shut me up? Who is she? How does she look? Is she prettier than me? Do you have her photo in your wallet? What's her name?"
A: "Zoya..."
Z: "WHAT?"
A: "I said Zoya get ready for the hit."
Z: "Oh... right."
As soon as they landed and Asad released her from the harness, Zoya ran to Hammad.
"Maddy it was so awesome! I mean the experience was just out of this world! I want to do it over and over, again and again."
Najma spoke up from behind him.
"What did you call him?"
H: "Nothing. She calls me Hammad."
Z: "Oh that's his nick. I call him..."
H: "I SAID she calls me Hammad."
N: "Zoe, tell me. What's his nick?"
H: "I have no nick."
N: "You call me Tamater all the time."
H: "But your nick suits you."
Z: "Yours suits you too M..."
H: "You don't dare!"
Zoya gave him a mischievous smile and ran after saying.
"Okay okay! Maddy has no nick Tamater."
H: "You dash!"
Hammad sprinted after her. Najma stood back laughing at the two of them.
The car jerked once more and came to a halt.
A: "What's wrong?"
H: "The petrol's almost over and she's getting too hot. I think we need a mechanic."
A: "Is there any filling station nearby?"
H: "Not on the route we were going to take. Now we'll have to go to the alternative route."
N: "What about the old lady's medicines?"
Z: "Her house is not very far away from here. We can walk."
A: "It's too dark now. One of us needs to be with you. Hammad you call the mechanic and then take the car to the filling station and I'll go with them."
H: "I am not going alone."
N: "I am staying in the car because I can't walk."
Z: "Why?"
N: "I...I twisted my foot."
Z: "When?"
N: "Go already! Why are you so bent on taking me along?"
Z: "Stay you lazy ass. Who wants you anyway?"
H: "When you are done, walk downhill from the first bend. Once you reach the road at the bottom, walk down the slope. There is a big board there "Shimla point" We'll meet you there."
As Hammad saw them disappearing into the darkness, he switched the ignition and the car purred to a perfect start.
N: "You think they bought that?"
H: "Absolutely."
N: "You can lie quite well."
H: "All of it wasn't a complete lie. We do need to get to the filling station. This is all we can do to get the duffers together. He didn't even say anything to her during the dive. I could have taken her for the dive myself. I made him do it so that he could say the three words to her but Asad is Asad."
Coming up:
Asad Zoya walk towards the old lady's house alone plus a love confession.
