Chapter 6

After running a battery of tests, the doctors announced there was nothing wrong with me. That was until I noticed my deflated belly. I asked around for the twins but nobody answered. Jalal took me into a separate room and announced that he signed off on the documents approving the abortion.

"It was either you or the fetuses. My choice never wavered. It is always you for me. I know you love Sooha more but I can give him for you. My choice is you. I so happy you are alive, I could die from the joy".

I looked him up and down to confirm it was really him. Really the man that tortured my insides the last one year in Agra. If it had been any other time I would have skinned him alive for saying he would give up Sooha but today was not that day. I was too grateful to see my love again, I would ever overlook murder.

"Kiss me". I suddenly had desired possess my senses. "Kiss me senseless. Kiss me breathless. Kiss me till I stop feeling my own nerves".

He tangled his swift fingers in my hair and obeyed. His soft lips explored the of my mouth, tugging and pulling. His love rained on my lips like a heaven's angel descending. We soon became the only two people alive in the world. The air froze in motion as he whispered inside me, "I love you, my love".

I offered him an affirming nod and continued kissing. Time flew as we were lost in each other, stealing the other's breath.

We were only brought back to really when the little Sooha walked in on our love making and coughed loudly enough to shock us apart.

"Oh my eyes! I think I am going to need bleach to wash this one out. Mum, you've scarred me for life! Ewww dad!"

I was so embarrassed I couldn't even look up. I buried my face in my husband's chest as he explained away, "eh kid. It's not what you think. Just that I missed her body...I mean I missed your mum. I missed her. You understand, right kid?"

"I do so let's stop dad. You're making yourself look bad. I am old enough to know mum and dad kiss to make babies. You're doing this so we can get back the babies mum lost right?"

My child's innocent words made me burst into tears. Even if it was a dream, I couldn't let go of the belief that my miscarriage was planned. I had a feeling something was amiss the minute Maham Anga put her hands around my shoulder. Was it a poison of some kind? A magic potion? Whatever it was, I couldn't let go of my doubt. But would I be brave enough to let go of what I had to chase after what I lost? Could I really live in two worlds when God had finally granted me my lost love?

I promptly decide to let go of my resentment, mourn, and move on. I couldn't get back lost time but I had chance at rebuilding the life I left behind.

After a few months, the family was back to normal. Sooha was going to school like always. Jalal was back to whining about his job and I was busy handling the museum. But nothing would settle my unease. I walked around the Mughal era artifacts in the Museum. I became jumpy at a mention of Jodha or Akbar. I assigned the employees such that I would not have to directly supervise any activities that would jog my memory.

But I suppose it was only a matter of time. I was assigned an expensive role of transporting the "Lovers' Well" from an Agra museum to our New Delhi site. One touch of its brick walls and my soul was sucked out of my flesh.

This time I woke up as the Rajputana princess Jodha who was engaged to be married to emperor Akbar. No matter how long this streak of fate lasted, I was determined to make it different. This time, I would hold the power. I would make all those who wronged me dance to my tune...starting with baadshah Jalalludin Mohammad.

"You look beautiful", he says as he approaches our wedding bed. I take a minute to gather my thoughts and then unveil myself.

"I know exactly how good looking I am. Also, how capable I am. I know what you need me for. This is a political alliance so you better not overstep your bounds".

"What did you just say?" the high and mighty ruler was enraged.

"Sit your ass down boy and listen to my words".

He wields his sword toward me.

"You don't scare me. Kill me if you must. I am not a bit afraid. I am here for a reason and once I get what I want, I will leave. I have a man I love to death. So don't try too hard. Just stay by my side quietly and I will let you live".

"What did this bitch just say? Are you delusional? Or did you get hit in the head as a child? I am the emperor. Even the leaves around here don't shake without my will. And you're going to rule over me? Have you lost it? And do you want to see your lover dead? Is that why you dare tell me his name? I can have you killed this minute if I so desire. You understand that right?"

"No, you are wrong. Try harming a hair on my head and you will have the entire Rajputana thirsty for your blood. You take me for a fool, don't you? Fine, I'll won't tell you things, I'll just show you. I don't have much time left here. My family needs me so I don't know when I will be called back. But until then, I going to make everyone who hand in killing my children pay. I am going to be the head bitch and run this town. It's your choice if you want to be in my line of fire".

He looked at me one last time before storming out in confusion. He must think he married a crazy woman.

"Kids? Murder? Arrrggghh!" I heard him screaming in the background as I fell asleep.

One can see how much jalal loves jodha when he had to choose bteween jodha and fetuses. He did not flinch either. They made out which made sense bec jodha thought he lost jalal. Then, she sees herself as jodha a princess and loved the conversation she had with emperor. Btw, was she day dreaming or hallucinating, i assume?
